That puts me off buying from them. Thanks for the video

HHave a read back through some of the thread if you get a chance. At one time they were considered very good.

Then people had mixed experiences - there seemed to a batch made and sent out that were super dodgy. Some people got exchanges so CW seemed to acknowledge that there was problems.

Personally I group bought with the neighbours before the issues and was really happy with them. Last yr bought 1/2 ton on my own and very happy with them in terms of heat and longevity. The nature of Internet forums is that we then to post more about a negative experience than a normal experience ( ie you buy smokeless coal and it turns out its normal smokeless coal so not something most would think to post about) so hence the suggestion to try get an overview as loads of comments on them.

Also make sure you are comparing like with like - if you have a stove then how they work in an open fire is irrelevant to you.

The best advice is that not all ovoids are the same & yes you do get what you pay for. I have bought the most expensive for the past 6 years & I am sticking with them.

I've had coal warehouse ovoids previously and they were excellent.

I've had gkotherm ovoids from Greers the past few years and again excellent.

Outside of Coal Warehouse is anyone aware of other suppliers that deliver to Cork. I spoke with Maguire's last week and their courier won't deliver to God's own Country for some inexplicable reason.

Hi you could try the company below and I think Greers in Northern Ireland will delivery 3/4 of ton pallet to cork

Anybody ordered from Coal Warehouse recently? Be nice to get current feedback on quality. I usually order from them, but comments here are making me wonder have they went downhill!

Has the ecostove that youve gotten come in the same bag as pictured above or the red sacks? Reason asking is a neighbour swears by the red bags as pictured above, and says the red ecostove sacks arent as good burning, BUT i think they are both made by Mclaughlin fuels and are the same just different size bags?!

Ordered there (before I saw anything here), will give feedback when weather breaks…

Used a tonne of these last winter and they were very good in my Stanley Erin stove. Ordered another tonne this week to get me through the coming winter.

I’ve been burning the ovoids from them for years now and they are grand, they made a bad mix a couple of years back and when we contacted them easyglow sent out a new batch

My last coal order was a 2 seasons ago which was columbian coal, so have to finally consider "smokeless" fuels now.

I tried a bag of Hayes Calco Magiglo over the weekend and whilst it did give really good heat, Im not convinced with burning pet coke on an open fire, purely from a health perspective. I'm not worried about heat damage to firebox or grate.

We could certainly smell the coal, where as we never did in the past with traditional coal. Tried going back through this thread for info but searching Boards these days is difficult.

Is there low smoke coal thats not blended with pet coal? (Not interested in lignite or biomass fuels either)

Should I be looking at coal with high anthracite content like Hayes Glolite and if so, what other alternatives are there in the market?

Its actually been challenging to find the composition of various coals, except to say they all have "high heat" and "low ash".

In @wassie in England all smokeless coal sold must have a Ready to Burn number. You can use this number on the government’s website (link at the end of the post) to see the percentage makeup of each type of manufactured smokeless coal.

All smokeless coal that can be used in an open fire contains petroleum coke (pet coke), but the amount varies depending on the product.

Some smokeless coal products made in Ireland are approved for sale in England, such as:

    • Andrew Coyle Coal Ltd
      • Glotherm Briquettes – Ready to Burn number: MSF025
    • Hayes Fuels
      • Glolite – Ready to Burn number: MSF0258
    • Arigna Fuels
      • Cosyglo Smokeless Briquettes – Ready to Burn number: MSF0077

For example, Arigna Fuels’ Cosyglo Smokeless Briquettes typically contain:

    • 35–50% anthracite
    • Up to 45% petroleum coke
    • Up to 20% bituminous coal
    • Up to 5% starch or other organic binder

Thanks - thats very helpful. Given most most of us are purchasing from Northern Ireland, its particularly relevant.

So Hayes Glolite is completely different to what I thought:

    • 20–50% anthracite (and coal)
    • 50-80% petroleum coke
    • remainder is an organic binder

So no getting away from pet coke as you noted - but good to know. I see that data also publishes sulphur content.

I got my last 2 pallets from Easyglow and have no complaints.

Will they have anymore promotions like half price delivery again before winter?

    Got the usual tonne of

    https://www.smokelesscoalexpress.com/product-page/eco-stove-bags-of-smokeless-coal £459.00

paid in Sterling as I have a Sterling account.

Can't really fault it except last year the bags were a bit wet on the inside.

Ordered Sunday night delivered down in Waterford Saturday mid morning.

Wake me up when it's all over.

I got my last two tonnes from Easyglow.

First onee was absolutely muck. The amount of ash was ridiculous.

Second tonne was much better. Still have about 15 bags left

Snap ! I ordered exactly the same on Wednesday - I was told that the expect price rises

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 35 ollin

Me too, ordered the green bags again last Monday. No sign yet but should be with me soon. £429 works out at just under €500 delivered.

I got my last 2 tonnes from https://lptfuels.ie/shop/super-blend-smokeless-coal-1-tonne-pallet/

Both times I ordered EcoStove and got the Superblend. It's good. Probably as good as the Ecostove but I was pissed off as it was not what I ordered. The second time I emailed them and asked them to ensure that they sent the correct pallet so I'm assuming that they don't really stock McLaughlin's.

I might buy it again or else go back to smokeless express.

Last two orders from Greers for me. Ovoids were superb, great heat and little ash. Glotherm. I'll probably stick with it again this year.

Red bags coming in at €495 delivered there. Cheaper than the smokeless express website that I used

But they don't send you the red bags!

I ordered EcoStove twice and they sent me the Superblend.
