Really wish De Minaur would get rid of that pathetic attempt at a moustache he has, either grow a proper moustache or shave that hair off his upper lip.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,182 ✭✭✭Jack Daw

    Auger-Alliasime wins.

Think de Minaur is going to be one of those players who just gets the QFs and no better, doesn't really seem to have an weapons to really trouble any of the better players, just a very vanilla player.

Anisimova has taken the first set against Swiatek, 6-4. Some turnaround from that Wimbledon final debacle.

    Anisimova serving for the match….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 820 ✭✭✭klr87

Anisimova wins 6-4 6-3, with the help of the deadest of net-cords on her 3rd match point. Revenge is sweet.

Wanted Swiatek to win, but can't begrudge that performance from Anisimova. Incredible comeback from Wimbledon, I was fearing the worst after she lost her opening service game. Swiatek's struggles against heavy hitters continue.

Deminaur vs Felix was terrible quality and musetti might as well have stayed at home. Hard to believe these were quarter finals. The lack of quality outside of Sinner and Alcaraz is really clear to see. Unless another really good player of two emerge grand slams are going to be so boring. As a person who loves tennis I can't believe how few people I hear talking about mens tennis right now

Yeah, looks like we'll have all 4 grand slam finals next year will be between Sinner and Alcaraz.

Zverev,Medvedev, Tsitsipas, should be up with the top 2 now but they've all fallen off a lot , they've been massive disappointments in their careers.

At least with the women's there is a bit of tooing and froing between a clutch of top players.

From 4-2 down, Pegula has won the first set 6-4 against Sabalenka. Coming to the net has backfired on Sabalenka, as Pegula has countered with some brilliant cross-court passing shots.

Sabalenka wins 4-6 6-3 6-4. Pegula was much the better server in the final set, winning her last four service games to love. But being broken in her first service game was crucial, as she couldn't convert any of the four break points she had.

Interesting results to wake up to! Expected though, I think.

Rooting for Sabalenka on Saturday, but think Anisimova will win it. Leads the h2h 6-3, plus will have the crowd behind her. Can see Sabalenka starting well and taking the first set before eventually running out of ideas and succumbing in three.

Could potentially be a damaging defeat for Sabalenka too. Potentially a third grand slam final lost in a year, and fourth consecutive American!

I would be worried for Anisimova if she gets off to a bad start in the final, hopefully she can get over the nerves and win it. I just can't stand Sabalenka and all the screeching and grunting as well as the amatuer dramatics that goes on when she is playing.

I'm looking forward to tonight's semi final between Alcaraz and Djokovic, I have a sneaky feeling that Djokovic is going to win this one. He looks to be injury free and playing well. The other semi I think will be a straight forward 3 set win for Sinner, can't Aliassime getting more that 3 games in each set.

Zverev, Medvedev and Tsitsipas remind me of the like of Tsonga, Berdych, Gasquet and possibly Kyrgios, even though he is a different story, bags of talent but just missing that last bit to get them over the line. In fairness though I do think Tsonga and Berdych may have won a few slams between them if they had come at the same time as those 3.

Alcaraz-Djoko could be fantastic tonight, really glad it's on at a watchable time for us. Right now I have it 55-45 in Djoko's favour, but obviously hoping for an Alcaraz win 🙂

Just as well Sinner-FAA is the late match. I don't have too much hopes for that being competitive.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,980 Mod ✭✭✭✭yerwanthere123

I'd say FAA wins a maximum of eight games, but perhaps I'm being too generous

I'd put it at 85 -15 in favour of Alcaraz. If Alcaraz can't beat Djkovic at 37 on his least best service, then he can never be considered an all time great

Alcaraz is in his prime now

Alcaraz should be winning in straight sets here. First set competitive and than two straight forward sets

100% this ^^^^^ - also rooting for Carlos, but if we get a great match it might soften the blow if he gets beaten by the Joker !!

If Alcaraz is half the player he's supposed to be, he's winning this in 3 sets. There's no way his da should be taking a set off him here.

Hope you're right. But Djoko leads the h2h 5-3, beat him this year at the Australian Open and is less likely to go walkabout like Alcaraz often does. But I'm keeping everything crossed for Alcaraz!

In his favour is the fact that Alcaraz appears much more consistent recently - less dips in concentration - yes he still does the whole trick shots thing, but he picks his moments better, and there are thankfully less of them. He also seems to be relying less on those drop shots, and when he does use them he doesn't miss as often.

    Here's hopin!!

    C'mon Carlos!

Drop shot not working so far....

Alcaraz now two sets up after taking tight tiebreak hurrah

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 820 ✭✭✭klr87

Apparently, no-one has ever lost in the semi-final of all four slams in the one year. Djokovic could be on his way to some unwanted history.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,393 ✭✭✭Royale with Cheese

Can't see Djokovic coming back from here. Five years ago absolutely, I'd almost expect it, but not now.

Djokovic visibly running out of steam now, a break down in 3rd set
