I know I'm banging a drum but it's one thing to witness the level of depravity the Israeli state is willing to engage in. It's something else to witness the same level of inhumanity from everyone from posters on this thread to international leaders. I know history won't care about my opinion on any of this but seriously, as human beings, how did we get to this again.

You should read Fintan OToole's article on Henry Kissinger. It gives an insight into how people who support Israel are the way they are. Most Political leaders have never really cared about human rights, they just pretend to when it suits a geo political objective. It's just that we've being smacked in the face with it over the last 24 months that it's become impossible not to be aware of it anymore

I mean, how else do we explain Ursula condemning Russia and calling for sanctions against them because they attacked civilian infrastructure in the early days of the Ukraine War ; , but when Israel has done the exact same thing for nearly two years now she doesn't call for sanctions. The only conclusion is there is no real moral principle/ redline at stake; condemnation of an action depends on whether its ally or foe doing it. We saw another stark example of this back in the '70s when Nixon expressed outrage at the Russians for downing an airliner and called for the UN to condemn it, when Israel shot down an airliner, Richard had very little to say about it. Not much has changed since then- Israel is still the only country that can murder Americans citizens and it will be covered up or ignored and forgotten about.

History will not be kind to the behaviour of western nations in response to the genocide. We were unwilling or incapable of stopping it. The institutions set up to prevent these atrocities and war crimes have proven themselves to be toothless. UN, ICJ etc. As a result the west (especially USA) has completely lost its moral authority and we should be very ashamed. There is a new world order and the future looks bleak. If you are powerful enough, you can do what you want and most likely get away with it.

And you know, with Israel killing most Palestinian journalists and banning foreign journalists - we really have no idea what they cowardly murderous IDF scum have done over the last 2 years. We only have glimpses.

To those that bought the vile propaganda and cheered Israel on, eternal shame on you.

seems Israeli allies continue to push back.

And, not seen any official report yet, but I believe Trump isn't very complementary of Israel today.

"Israeli moves to annexe parts of the occupied West Bank are a "red line" for the United Arab Emirates, one of the few Arab countries to recognise Israel, a senior official has said."

Youd think the UAE and the rest of the Arab world would do what the Israelis have done and throw all these accords out the window. Arab counties should threaten to attack Israel if they keep this up and put them back in their box a small bit. I actually though that Iran attacking retaliating might have went some way to stop them but it didnt. But maybe a coalition of Arab states might do it.

In my opinion its going to take a middle eastern full blown war to stop this genocide of civilians. And since the west wont get involved its up to the Arab countries to intervene.

    Netanyahu would absolutely love it.

Better for the arabs to let him hang himself and for the 'west' to be shown up as hypocrites

It'll never happen in the current geo-political situation. The majority of them are so wedded to US support they won't endangerer this, the others are just too weak to do anything against a nuclear power backed uncritically by the US and most of the rest of the western world.

    Interesting points.

Nobody wants war, except the Israelis - even Iran said they wanted peace before Israel illegally attacked them.

There's probably a significant element of Arab Nations not wanting to attack Israel because:

    1. They don't want conflict
    2. Israel will get limitless backing of weapons from the US
    3. The US will get directly involved if the situation is serious.

I'd say you've hit the nail on the head - the Arabs probably see, as we all do, that Israel is currently digging its own hole very well, thanks.

Good post. The only exception I have to that is using Iran as a guide to wanting peace, the want peace in Iran sure, but sponsor so many terrorist organisations I doubt their sincerity to peace.

Yes - good point and agreed. They certainly fear Israel and did not/do not want to get into direct conflict. Which makes their supporting of proxies, including Hamas and Hezbollah, as both despicable and simply bizarre.

But in fairness, Israel never had an issue with supporting proxies themselves (including Hamas). And have recently admitted to supporting criminal gangs in Gaza.

The ME is a bloody mess for sure. But I hope there are enough cool heads to sort the issues out - this latest conflict may very well be the turning point for people to realise that the two-state solution is the only route to success for the whole of the ME and they all live in peace and security. Or at least respectfully ignore each other.

Its been while since I said it but I have no general issue with Israel at all and I wish them peace, security and success. But not at the expense of their neighbours. And I think many Israelis think that too. Perhaps not enough of them yet but I think its getting there…

Also most of the arab nations and Iran don't really care about the Palestinians. What's happening is great way to distract their own citizens from domestic issues.

There is an increasing demand to kick Israeli sponsored cycling team out of the Vuelta cycling race in Spain. The finish was moved today and there was no stage winner. The route is festooned with Palestinian flags. Basques understand what is happening in Palestine. Would be an important turning point towards making it clear that Israel is a pariah state.

    Haaretz news straps:

Six people, including one child, died from hunger and malnutrition over the last day.

Around 70,000 to 80,000 Palestinians have been displaced from Gaza City, most within the past 72 hours

350 IDF reservists signed a statement opposing the security cabinet's decision to capture Gaza City on Tuesday evening. At a press conference in Tel Aviv, Ron Feiner, a member of the organization Soldiers for the Hostages, said the decision to conquer Gaza City "is blatantly illegal and will put hostages, soldiers and civilians at risk. If we are called up for reserve duty, we will not report. We will not comply."

The IDF is refusing to disclose how many reservists reported for duty on Tuesday after 60,000 call-up notices were issued.

The majority of Israelis, including right-wingers, support a deal that would include an end to the Gaza war, the release of all hostages and the withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Strip, a poll released by the Israel Democracy Institute showed. According to the survey, conducted between August 24 and 28, 64.5 percent of all Israelis believe that Israel should agree to such a deal.

Ofir Breslavsky, father of hostage Rom, said: "How is it possible that a month after my son's video was released, showing the horrors there, the government leaves him there? And the Prime Minister wants to conquer more territory? I can't understand that."

Vicky Cohen, whose son Nimrod is held by Hamas, called on Netanyahu to "end the war, bring them home in one deal, enough! Enough of endangering Nimrod and the other hostages. Enough of endangering the soldiers. Enough foot-dragging and torpedoing deals."

Ethnic cleansing of Gaza well under way:

"Even before the plan to occupy Gaza City began to materialize, satellite images reveal that in recent weeks the IDF has destroyed large parts of the city and other areas in the northern Gaza Strip…

Data from the Gaza rescue services acquired by Haaretz indicate that over 85 percent of Shujaiyeh and Tuffah have been destroyed, and in the city of Jabalya and in Zeitoun, as well as other Gaza City neighborhoods, over 70 percent of the buildings have been demolished.

On the ground, they documented the broad use of quadcopter drones that launched explosives on buildings in the eastern part of the city, along with artillery fire in the northern and western parts of the Strip.

Due to the large-scale demolition, many of Gaza City's residents have been displaced from their homes.

The rescue services estimate that tens of thousands have been displaced from the destroyed neighborhoods in the city and other areas in the northern Strip"

Israel now using incendiaries in Gaza City.

    Dresden anyone?

"First responders said Israeli drones also dropped incendiary bombs in the vicinity of a clinic overnight in the northern Sheikh Radwan neighbourhood, where troops and tanks were reportedly advancing

"Nobody wants war" except for Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah, Yemen etc.

And as for Iran supposedly having "wanted peace" … the kind of "peace" Iran wants is where they get to fund, train and direct proxy forces to attack Israel etc, but the Ayatollahs suffer no consequences because their enemies don't go to the source of the problem.

Which everyone was happy enough to do until Iran decided to enrich uranium to levels far beyond any possible civilian use.

Let's not forget that Iran is one of the main weapons suppliers to Russia in its war against the people of Ukraine.

And why on Earth would Arab countries start a war with Israel when Israel has no quarrel with most of countries in the region? On what planet would that make sense? Perhaps it's just wishful thinking on the parts of people who want to see Jews being killed?

Nice to see that, as usual, the Middle East's problems are being blamed on the 0.3% of it that's not run by an Islamic dictatorship.

Six of the guys in the office today spoke about this at length. About the early stages, the lies, the bombing of hospitals, schools and homes. Dogs feeding on body parts left in the rubble. The forceful moving into zones for 'safety' only for these zones to be bombed aswell. Clearly could see this is about a land grab, not hostages. The killing of the Doctors, Journalists, men, woman and children, the dismantlement of the Aid Organisation, the forced starvation, the famine, the media bias, the politicians turning a blind eye, the plan for the 'greater Israel, the tale that this is somehow a war of survival told by one of the most powerful and backed up army in the world - all these things. They spoke about rooted hatred fostered on both sides, for very different reasons. Hollywood getting 500 actor's signatures (We didnt hear about the other trades - plumbers, bricklayers, mechanics - just actors and showbusiness…). The documentaries, the Oct 7th etc. But no mention every of Oct 6th, the 5th, the 4th and so on..

Anyway, it was a long discussion and even with the above, it wasn't all one sided. The history of it all is more nuanced but the facts speak for themselves.

One of the lads said at the very end - how the hell is this all allowed to happen. A quite guy in the office who didnt engage the whole time turned and said its pretty simple. The tropes are true.

I am profoundly concerned that the US is normalising the expulsion of millions of people who have lived there continuously since time immemorial. Israel had to cut short its war with Iran because it was running out of missiles. That illustrated their military dependence on the US for conventional arms.

In recent days, Netanyahu refused to put the new ceasefire deal before the Israeli Cabinet, and indications are that Trump is egging him on to so-called "finish the job". What does "finish the job" mean? We know from Northern Ireland there is no military solution in colonial wars, only a political solution.

Also suspicious is that the Israeli government has refused an inquest into October 7th. I find it very odd that the concert was not secured, and that it was allowed next to the Gaza fence. Shin Beth, the domestic intelligence agency, is investigating Netanyahu's ties to Qatar. Qatar is probably a bigger sponsor of Hamas than Iran, but unlike Iran has a strong lobby (not as strong as Israel's) in the West because of oil. The European Parliament also has a Qatargate scandal.

Also Netanyahu is himself on trial for corruption. The allegation is that he bought favourable coverage from the newspaper Yedioth Ahranoth in return for commercial favourable government decisions. This war provides cover for him to stay in power, and drag out the trial, and maybe eventually end up with a more sympathetic judge. Also the Israeli Supreme Court judges are reappointed every 10 years. Is Netanyahu hoping to drag this out until he can appoint judges who will shut down the trial?

Nice to see that, as usual, the Middle East's problems are being blamed on the 0.3% of it that's not run by an Islamic dictatorship.

Israel is being called out for Genocide - mass killings, starving 2 million innocent civilians, executing journalists and medics.

Is it any wonder that the world is turning on a warmongering killing machine?

People calling out Israel is nothing to do with whatever rubbish you're pushing - including "people just wanting Jews to be killed".

Seeing as you posted that Israel was "pretty sh*t at Genocide" when the numbers of dead was low, you must agree that the Arabs you despise are equally "sh*t" at killing Jews.

Though in fairness, you've not been around for a while justifying the murder of women and kids. At least you had the sense to slip back into the shadows whilst Israel continues its war crimes.

Two US senators have defied their government to bring a different perspective about Gaza and the West Bank to their country:

Van Hollen and Merkley returned to Rafah Gate on Saturday, still barred from entering Gaza, but able to look out over the city of Rafah from the top of a building.

“We could see absolute rubble, like there was no semblance of a town remaining. It wasn’t like a bunch of buildings with holes in the side — like shell holes and blown holes — No, everything was rubble,” he said. “Now, this same process is beginning in Gaza City, and there are upwards of about a million people in the Gaza City area. And realize, not that many months ago, a million people were in Rafah.”

    "Nobody wants war"

Will you ever tell that to Israel - they seem to be the only ones in the region at the minute that is actually "warring" - attacking countries that arent or werent really involved at the start of this - Iran, Yemen, Syria, Lebanon - its gone way beyond "self defense" at this stage and has turned into a genocide of Palestinian civilians.

You cant even accuse Hamas as wanting a war as Hamas are utterly defeated now - its now just killing for the sake of killing.
