    Splitting hairs .

Now say who it was and when it was ?

I have given reasons why in the context of MON at this time it is inappropriate. Why would SF endanger that position and the entire Stormont Assembly to make a play for a role that is ceremonial at best when they finally have that establishment up and running under their primacy .?

I think those around Joanna need to advise her on this. Her SIndo article a few weeks back and now this suggest to me she mightn't be well at the moment. Both the content of the article and this move are irrational.

She's not seeing the difference between being a recognisable, reasonably well liked person and being presidential material.

People are more inclined to vote for persons who have similar views. Letting voters know your views on a hugely important international human rights issue is not using the genocide for personal gain. People who support the genocide can decide to vote for other candidates.

Bottom line is whether the World is retreating from the principles that were established when the reality of WWII was fresh in our minds.

I agree that she's not presidential material.

That said, the Indo article i read talks about well known issues within Met Eireann. They are a proper shower internally apparently - I've this from a relatively who worked there until he couldn't stand the sh1t any longer and left - like J Donnelly.

There was another article in defense of farmers and one more recently about public transport/cycling.

It would be a shame for FG if she got on the ballot paper and voters decided to vote for her as the "none of the above" candidate. Would SF endorse her?

    Regards…jmcc

Cannot understand why Bob Geldof would consider running, he does not need the money as far as I know. He was worth something like £30 million about 10 years ago, not sure about now. The UK has been good for him. Why would he want to put up with the bitter little people here who will snipe at him?

She's not going to, much like every other candidate you think would be a magnet for people to vote for.

I remember him being interviewed at about that time and he was asked about motivation.

He ruled out earning money as being important.

I was struck by the way he put it.

He said "I have enough to see me to the end".

A good position to be in.

She hasn't thought this one through clearly. You'd wonder what sort of 'friends' she has if they are assuring her she would make a great President of Ireland.

Joanna Donnelly would be a greenish candidate, she’s a lovely person really,I do not understand the hate in certain quarters for her

She’s a self admitted insomniac which would affect how you come across or how you try to express yourself as you’re in a permanent state of tiredness which must make it hard not to be cranky

Joanna should think about her 'friends' as they happy enough to put pie in the sky notions into her head and let her make a fool of herself in front of the nation .

I don’t think she’ll get on the ballot no less be a serious contender - if this is her way of getting some publicity for another business venture then away with her but she’ll be only treated as a side show in this election

Joanna certainly did herself no favours last night on the TV no matter what her motives are for putting her name out there ,a future business project or whatever .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,291 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

Extremely vague with her answers on what her reasons were for voting on the various referendums "I don't remember".Offend nobody policy.

Joanna must be in the grips of a grubby agent who is filling her head with daft notions and has turned her into a bit of a laughing stock.

She should have taken her que from Nuala Carey another former weater girl who has carved out a nice little z-list celebrity niche for herself…(recently judging on Rose of Tralee) and seems to be well liked.

It’s “one” way to get publicity I guess - I just hope this doesn’t become some Z list celebrity way of getting your name out there - she’s now officially known and will be forever more, as a 2025 former presidential “hopeful” -
If she gets on the ballot, even if she doesn’t get a vote, she’ll then be always known as “former presidential candidate” - might get her free in to Coppers I guess

I agree, and she's more than likely a very nice lady, but I'm not convinced that weather girls, former popstars like Sir Bob or ex Roses from Tralee need apply to become the President of Ireland. It's a big ask with a big responsibility on the world stage. Nothing to say they cannot apply, it's just that there must be other candidates from other spheres of life who would be more suitable to the role?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,452 ✭✭✭✭Strazdas

Saying she doesn't remember how she voted in the two Lisbon referendums (she's probably telling the truth) was a quite terrible answer for a presidential candidate. If she can't remember something as important as that, she's not at all a serious candidate.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 22,291 ✭✭✭✭kneemos

She remembers how she voted, but asked about the reasons she said she didn't remember.

I mean make up something PC at least.

She's a terribly poor candidate. I can only imagine her answers on the rise of right wing politics, Irish neutrality, Irish Reunification etc.

No research done on the Presidency, no advisors, no plan, swayed by a few silly people/friends. The total lack of realism is worrying. I've Bipolar II and it smacks of the behaviour when having a hyped, high episode. She needs good people around her, not silly fan girls.
