Geldof had nothing to do with Self Aid.

The only thing he did for Ireland was to utilise British prejudices and discrimination against Irish people and their freedom of religion (from them) and make a lot of money out of it.

His whole life is a lie.

He refused to condemn Thatcher, Bloody Sunday, Dublin bombings and various atrocities and terrorist acts by Britain, supported the Omagh families only because they were “British victims” while implicitly supporting the pro-British terrorists.

The guy has a massive inferiority complex and it is heartening that the same establishment British nationalist media who he doffed his cap to - Telegraph, Mail, tabloids, etc - think he is a loser.

Can anyone confirm how FF choose their candidate?

    Parliamentary party or membership?

Kelleher may rue taking too long to declare.

As opposed to pitching himself to a party where jcbs are still trying to find the remains of young fellas that the party had tortured and butchered, usually by one of the biggest touts that ever sold out to Britain!

To be clear Bob Geldof is from Dún Laoghaire, he just went to school in Blackrock.

    Parliamentary Party, 71 votes.

A prospective candidate must have 5 signatures to stand, including their own.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,925 ✭✭✭✭L1011

I see absolutely no examples of Geldof using the title there.

I see one example of a marketing company doing it. The actual watch firm just called him Bob Geldof in online materials etc.

    Try again.

    ChatGPT take 😁, so ...

✅ Verdict: Who is Best Qualified?

Objectively: Heather Humphreys is better qualified in terms of experience, constitutional understanding, and eligibility.

But: If you value symbolic leadership, independent activism, and international clout over traditional qualifications, Bob Geldof could be compelling as a change candidate—though his viability is uncertain.

You asked for evidence of a person who accepted a title in celebration of the British empire, knowing full well he would be referred to as “sir”, and I showed you it.

Now, you want more examples of it, but only from Ireland, where he does not live?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,925 ✭✭✭✭L1011

I asked for evidence that Geldof himself uses the Sir, which is what you claimed

    You failed to provide it.

I don't care if a PR firm uses it, or a paper uses it, you said he uses it himself and you have yet to provide me any proof.

I don't care where the example is from, I care who the example is from, as your entire claim is based on it being Geldof using it himself!

Thank you, looks like it is JG v Humphrey's v Connolly, unless SF springs a surprise.

He hasn't handed back any awards in protest at people using it.

I still think I'd prefer him to the other candidates that are being mentioned.

Ireland and UK are like bread and butter unfortunately or fortunately, so I don't really care about that.

We've had 100+ years to get our affairs in order and we just sulked from the UK to the Church to the EU/USA. But my real bug bear is that we are hooked on property bubbles. Currently we can't even provide housing. So yeah, Banana Republic.

    😆

Ah, but no problem when he was pitching to the British tories and their human rights abusers ….

You may have to try googling Geldof before cheerleading him like a good boy 🙄

L1011, you seem to be editing your previous posts.

You do understand L1011, that when you are paid to promote a product and keep the proceeds, you might have an inkling that of what name and title they are probably going to use.

Maybe if the self publicist had a long hard look at where he is living and accepting honorary knighthoods he'd have something credible to offer?
Nah, let's try a sneaky cozy up to FF.

Yes, I added something responding to the line I forget to counter where you were trying to alter the question.

The name the watchmaker Geldof worked with used was Bob Geldof. One marketing agency added the errant Sir in some promo material, including the gushing statement and blurry photo that comes up with the search you linked to.

You haven't actually got an example of Geldof himself using the title, do you? The thing you actually claimed. And based your aggressive, ranty reply to me pointing out Francies inaccuracy on.

All these points are rather moot.

South Dublin’s centrist idea of a “rebel” is more of a wet dream.

This fool won’t be bothering taking questions from councillors from SF, PBP, Aontú, Indos about his two-bit theories of British “greatness” and tax evasion having been jetted in from his mansion in another country.

He might want to go back to making music, if he can afford it.

    https://www.nme.com/news/music/bob-geldof-hit-with-fresh-claims-of-fraud-and-tax-avoidance-2446174#

Bob Geldof has been faced with fresh claims of tax avoidance and fraud that relate to the funding of his 2011 solo album.

‘How to Compose Popular Songs That Will Sell’ failed to live up to its bold title when it reached the 89th spot in the album charts upon release in February 2011.“

Yes indeed, a 3 horse race. SF will likely back Connolly. If they run a candidate that comes in behind CC I think she'll get most of the transfers so same thing as backing her really from that POV

Fun fact for you, Bobbo can't use the title 'Sir' because he's not a subject of the Commonwealth, he just gets 'KBE' after his name

When this event is over, Geldof probably won’t be receiving a seat in the House of Lords courtesy of the new British government- turns out they feel he owes them money.

Will be too old for the next Presidential run and of course this is not the first time he’s been told quietly to F off from FF regarding the Presidency - he previously sat waiting outside for Ahern (I believe) to discuss this only to leave because he was waiting too long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,976 ✭✭✭An Claidheamh

If he became a British subject he could, though you are actually not supposed to use the title for receiving money - like Geldof does.

Geldof has Irish citizenship to avail of Non-Dom status as this assists tax evasion.

I actually think Steen would be better in the Aras than Delehanty. Nick has a good career ahead, possibly as a TD. Steen would prefer a laid back role.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 9,673 ✭✭✭blackwhite

Delahanty has failed to get elected as a councillor. A “good career” as a TD is a long leap from that

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,925 ✭✭✭✭L1011

They're both awful so I'm not sure how you can pick one better than the other. Nicks good career ahead must be his dog washing business, cause he's never getting elected

Donnelly found RTE too constraining to work for - how does she intend to cope with the restrictions on what the President does?
