I just got one. It's decent enough, I thought. For 3.99€, even if you don't eat everything, it's still great value.

I got some Portobello mushrooms that looked ok

Some blackberries, a bit soft but nice

A loaf of their award winning soda bread that can be toasted for another few days

Some yogurt pouches, not sure I'll eat them as they're usually too sweet but I'll try

Two lamb burgers, expiry date tomorrow. Will go in the freezer

4 burger buns. Obviously can still be eaten even if expired

High protein pancakes. Perfect for breakfast

A tabbouleh salad which again I will eat despite the expiry date

Some ready to eat chicken. I'm going to go by the smell, I am not crazy about food poisoning

    A soup for the freezer

The only item I chucked in the nearest bin was a pack of salmon (ella). It had leaked and was giving a strong smell

Obviously you need to be willing to either eat stuff beyond the expiry date or have a very late dinner

From where? Stuff can be cooked and frozen if not using on the day but it is a pain cooking late in the evening. Aldi most likely?

Yes. I was replying to someone who asked about the Aldi bags. Wonder why it didn't quote.

    It's a special Vanilla 'feature'! :)

You have to instead now hit the Quote button to the left.

The French Revolution boxes in Dundrum are very good, 2 éclairs for €5.50

    Need to stop ordering!!

It says the price was €18 (guess thats for two of the most expensive ones). Would never pay full price but....

The chicken ended up in the bin, I think even on the expiry day it was not great.

The bread is starting to go off, despite being kept in the fridge

The salad, berries and pancakes were delicious and the yogurts edible. The burgers and buns are defrosting for tonight's dinner. The soup will thaw in the office's fridge for tomorrow's lunch

So all in all, not bad value despite a bit of waste. It would have been wasted anyway. I think Aldi would do well to review their expiry dates as some items are already off by the time they reach that date

Donyou have to park in the shopping centre car parks to get to French Revolution?
I was thinking of getting an offbeat donuts from Dundrum town centre, but the hassle and extra expense of the car park was kinda turning me off.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 924 ✭✭✭Moving2017

You would have to park if driving, as it’s in the middle of the center.

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 7,348 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sheep Shagger

An unknown trick. You have 20 mins free parking in Dundrum so I drive in and as its the evening its normally quiet. Park by door, walk briskly to get your TGTG box and then get back to car straight away and drive out.

Barrier will lift, don't do anything with your parking ticket.

Oh that’s a hack and a half! Very good so.
Dundrum is back on the menu 😂

You're not supposed to keep bread in the fridge, so 🤷

Just managed to nab myself a bag from James Whelan Butchers in Douglas. I was convinced a bot was getting them as they are always gone in about 10s.

Just no stopping on way to or from getting your TGTG box! Although I've done a return at M&S on the ground floor using this trick.

Was in Dublin a couple of days, so a few boxes were gotten:

Breakfast Boxes: Maldron Hotel (Parnell Square) and StayCity Hotel (Mary Street). 4.99 each or so, definitely worth it, enough breakfast in each for 2 people.

StayCity one also had extra pastries

Afternoon Boxes: Tram Cafe (Wolftone Square, 3.99) and Cafe Lisboa (Mary Street, 3.99)

The Tram Cafe one was a winner, went back for a second one next day.

Day 1 - Scone, Cinnamon Bun, Overnight Lemon Curd Oats, Chicken Caesar Salad

Day 2 - Slice of Lemon Cake, 2 X of the same oats as before, 2 massive and delicious sandwiches (Chicken Cajun and Ham, Cheese and Mayo, I think)

Cafe Lisboa was probably my biggest disappointment with 2G2G ever. 2 plain croissants and a rissole. This in a place known for its pasteis de natas, and they still had a full tray on show.

Dinner Box: new place called Tutto Aposto on Liffey Street. 6.99, but it was dynamic pricing, if I had gotten it closer to 8PM it would have been 4.99.

Very nice lady gave me a choice between 6 different full cooked pizzas, they would have been a medium size? Very tasty, was really happy with that one.

A great box from O'Hehirs Mullingar this evening.

1 mini lemon cake, one mini pink (strawberry?) cake (same as the lemon cake), one almond cake slice, a maderia cake, soda bread, few pastries, and a white loaf. All for €4.99.

Excellent value. Delighted with this box.

Got this in Applegreen M&S Tramore for €4.99

definitely a mixed bag wraps and sandwiches are more or less a fiver each now and the fruit is good if not gone fizzy

Funnily enough, I got an M&S bag this evening. I had been in the same Applegreen a few weeks ago, and saw one of the staff loading up a load of yellow sticker ready meals into a crate, so I assumed they were prepping for a TGTG collection. When it was available today, I snapped it up, thinking I'd eat like a king. Unfortunately, when I went to collect, none of the ready meals are included, so not sure what happens to them. Still a good bag, with fruit, cookies and other mixed stuff.

Finally tried out this app. Went to Bitesize in Cork. Got 3 scones, 2 almond/cranberry slices and 4 pizza slices for €4. Very happy with that haul.

That's true for bread that doesn't contain fat and dairy. However, sliced processed bread and brown bread that contains buttermilk lasts longer when kept in the fridge. I used to keep them in the bread bin and they'd go mouldy. Now I can keep them for almost a week in the fridge. The bread I bake (sourdough and yeasted) cannot go in the fridge

Disappointing haul from The Hopsack. I got their bags in the past and it could be hit and miss but this one was terrible. A piece of focaccia that was so dry and hard I couldn't break it with my hands. Decided my teeth were worth more and chucked it in the bin.

    An expired yogurt

A tube of what I think was overnight muesli that was both too dry and soggy, not to mention bland. I tried to eat it but couldn't

Only the soup was good. At 5€ I might as well get a fresh one without a bag next time

I wish I never read about French Revolution on here, their éclairs at 2 for €5.79 are addictive!!

    They really are lovely.

    What ones have you gotten?

  • Moderators, Business & Finance Moderators Posts: 7,348 Mod ✭✭✭✭Sheep Shagger

Couldn't tell you their official names, have yet to have one we didn't like.

I got a raspberry one and it was absolutely delicious.

I might try for another bag next weekend. So yummy.

A bit of a funny one from Fresh yesterday. 5 large cartons of yogurt. That is really a lot of yogurt! Made me giggle until I realised we would be eating yogurt for days 🤣

Some roast chicken, 2 soups. A packet of cookies that I gave to the homeless guy at the door, he definitely needed them more than me.

1 Dunkin Donuts, 1 Off Beat. 5.90 each. Kids were happy out. There was a queue outside of Offbeat, and 12 boxes were handed out. for DD no idea how many. Offbeat are fancier, DD more plain but less calories :)
