anyone know at details on when the new Kellystown link road will be opened?

It would be handy as an extension of existing cycle path from Laurel lodge, allowing access to beech park, and Clonsilla, and onto Ongor etc.

Can’t see any details online. Except the the new cemetery is supposed to open in early 2026. Which presumably would mean the road was open.

While all that building is covering what was once nice green fields, and will add to existing traffic congestion - we obviously need more housing, and from the plan it seems to be nicely laid out.

Access to the cemetery would only need a tiny bit of the road and they may even limit access to it from opposite Luttrellstown Golf club (where builders currently access the Kellystown building site).

A friend is moving into Kellystown and I think he'll get access late next month so that should mean that some of the road will be open.

In the meantime, I suggest the towpath from Coolmine to get to Clonsilla and beyond. Castleknock to Coolmine remains unsuitable for cycling, but the gravel between Coolmine and Porterstown level crossings opens that stretch to cycling.

What existing cycle path from Laurel Lodge?

The cycle route through LL is the road. It's a complete incoherent mess, even for the buses it makes no sense.

City bound the bus lane is available for cyclists. Outbound it would be best to use Castleknock Avenue or the Castleknock Drive/Sycamore route I have mapped out.

There probably aren't any plans to add an outbound cycle lane. Space is tight or trees might would probably have to be removed to install one.

Bus lane does not equal cycle lane. And your routes are not cycle lanes either.

Obviously you can find a route. But calling them cycle lanes or inferring "cycling infrastructure" is a fiction. Especially in the older parts of D15

Cyclists are banned from the route between Castleknock and Coolmine, though that isn't adhered to.

I had thought they were also banned from the Coolmine to Porterstown as well but that might have changed since the gravel went down.

There's a lack of connectivity for cyclists across Dublin 15 especially into city center and I'm sure other cycle busy route.

Considering the traffic and lack of capacity on rail across D15

The map is called "Low/no traffic quiet routes" - no implication of cycling infrastructure. It's suggestions in lieu of actual infrastructure.

If you click on one of the lines it will show a popup with some info e.g. on the Sycamore route I wrote: "Coolmine station to Castleknock station

This route uses quiet roads and some modal filter shortcuts to safely get from Coolmine roundabout to Castleknock train station. From here you can get to the Royal Canal Greenway to Ashtown and the pedestrian bridge to Castleknock Tennis Club (and Beechpark Avenue)."

I've been waiting over 10 years for the Royal Canal Greenway to be started. I need to get places so I've found safe alternates while I wait. The map is to suggest routes that people may not know about e.g. routes that may not be possible by car (which immediately makes them safer).

I'm not complaining about the OPs suggestion or your mapping of routes. Both meritious (deserving reward or praise).

I'm complaining about "...existing cycle path from Laurel lodge…" and by extension castleknock road, and carpenterstown road to castleknock college. Criminally neglected cycle routes with so much potential as routes.

Why not take a strip from castleknock college and create safe route to castleknock and the park. Or a pedestrian and cycle bridge from college gate to college Wood or Park Ave.

It will never happen I know.

White's Road/Castleknock College/Carpenterstown Road is a planned "Primary Radial route" as part of Greater Dublin Area Cycle Network. There was some investigation activity near Castleknock College earlier in the year. I struggle to see how they can make that route safe. It's one of the least cycle friendly routes in the area.

As for a bridge, the GDA Cycle Network does show a proposed bridge between Park Ave and Castleknock Way (I've marked it with an orange arrow). That would be brilliant.

How old is that plan on the go. I thought something might happen during lockdown. But the fire seems to have gone out of it.

The Dublin GDA Cyle Network plan is from 2022.

A friend of mine lobbied Fingal to draw down funds to do "something" with the Clonsilla to Leixlip stretch of the towpath. Emer Currie supported it and followed up. Fingal didn't do anything. Frustrating.

    Very frustrating.

Have people moved into Luttrellstown Gate/Kellystown developments yet? The link road will take a lot longer I guess as there's still field on the Beechpark/Clonsilla side.

Yes, a good number of the houses are occupied.
