Yeah, there's been one big one in Dublin that made national news. I don't think a h'cap committee is doing its job these days without someone threatening litigation 🤣.

The original club above might be at fault there if they didn't have a h'cap sub-committee in play. This should reduce vendettas and have some balance in decision-making. You'd hope that the chap in question had been afforded the appeal route. A pity they were hounded out.

There could well be a handicap issue, and they may have significant "away" members playing the majority of golf at the club already. I'd suspect it's more likely something to do with bumping their numbers up and financing. They've about 4-5 competing clubs within 30 mins drive. Plenty of people from those clubs would have joined there as full members (away club) because the sub was reasonable and no hello money. The optics of 30 extra full home members would look more stable than 30 away members.

Maybe it's not court these days (but the club did have a high profile court case quite a while ago). I think there's some GUI arbitration process now, but from what I've heard, there's typically solicitors etc involved in that and legal fees to be paid if it gets to that stage. Someone else would know better than me how it works.

    The process is:

    1. Discuss with H'cap committee if you disagree.
    2. Appeal to club via the appeals panel.
    3. Golf Ireland escalation. There's a €200 fee also.

I believe there's a further (final) option beyond this with Sport Ireland or some independent mediator. I've never heard of anyone local going to a GI hearing. There were members before my time who went straight to GI about WHS/handicap whinging. They were swiftly referred back to the club. Never went further than that.

I'm a member of two clubs and this thread is quite interesting.

I'm 13km's from what I deemed my home club and 16km from the other one.

The reason i kept a particular one as home club is because i was a member there first and I just said that at initial interview and it was never a problem.

I would have thought i played both around the same amount of times but I checked Hole 19 there.

This year to date I have played 76 rounds in total.

22 of them at my "home" and 28 at the "away" club but I seem to gravitate towards one for a period in time and then go to the other one for the next while. Not something I've done consciously but perhaps unconsciously I'm pissed off in one place!

Also just checked for last year and it was 35 rounds for away course and 27 for home.

Looking at this it actually makes sense to give up membership in the home course but my kids are members also and it is really good for juveniles there and also the membership are a lot sounder there so guess I'll just have to keep paying 2 subs.

Not that kind of guy. He appealed, but nothing doing. So he joined another club to get away from the hcap sec. Absolutely nuts.

When I search my 2nd GUI # on the GI app it just brings up my initial GUI profile for my home club. I've never questioned it because no matter what GUI # I use, it gets posted to my original profile…albeit I've only ever used the 2nd GUI # at my away club for comps.
