There was a couple of Divisional teams about 15 years ago. Blackwater Gaels had a team. It was a bit of a shambles. They played junior championship thursday and with the amalgamation at the weekend.

The clubs probaly think it would be the same scenario again. If a chairman proposed playing junior first and left it open for divisional teams with a few weeks to prepare there would probaly be interest.

I know there’s no Dernacrieve adult team but they had an underage agreement with, what, 3 or 4 other clubs but chose to ignore those and throw their lot in with Templeport when push came to shove?

Doesn’t show alot of respect for the clubs they had amalgamated with for years.

they did throw their lot in with swad for a year and it didn’t work out and like I said Templeport was a better fit for them it wasn’t about disrespecting anyone.

They would be a lot closer to Templeport than blacklion and they would be driving by Templeport to go to kildallen and when you are parents do you want to be driving a lot further to underage training

Didn’t seem to trouble them driving a bit further when they were in the Dernacrieve amalgamation.

Templeport aren’t exactly testing themselves at underage level either. They’ve teams littered with underage development players but their U16s started in Div 3 and their minors the same.

From what I’ve been told, they’d 4 on the Cavan minor panel (U17), three on the U16 panel and 4 on the U15 panel.

Any word on background team for Dermot?

Nice to see bailieboro going well this year.. that's a town that deserves a day in the Sun.

Cavstream mentioned a couple of times over the weekend that Fintan Reilly and then Seamus McCabe were in Breffni watching games and expected to be part of the setup.

All that chat last week about there been two many teams in Senior looking at the Intermediate it wouldn't be any harm to reduce it by two teams aswell.

The draw has been kind enough to some of the bottom teams this week in that they are playing each other which will keep some ou of the relegation battle.

Butlersbridge were cruising against Knockbride 4-9 to 9 pts. It ended up a draw.

and by the looks of the video of it doing the rounds, one of their club backroom team could be looking at a long suspension

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,379 ✭✭✭baconsarnie

Yeah, i've seen it too. And it doesn't look good.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

I found the quality of it low over the weekend. Some dreadful shooting in the games I saw. Ballymachugh particularly poor & Lavey not much better Saturday evening.

Who are the bottom teams playing each other and avoiding relegation? Drumlane, Shercock and Drumgoon are all on 0 points but none play each other.

A brilliant player, even if it is at junior , that’s no barrier to playing for cavan as we’ve seen before, he definitely has the footballing ability to play for Cavan, the only doubt I’d have is if he has the ignorance/physicality? Could be wrong on that too, just an observation, but on footballing ability alone more than good enough to be in with Cavan

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,417 ✭✭✭rrs

He is a bit similar to Niall Walsh ex Shannon Gaels , now with Moycullen. Both over 6ft with good feet. Shannon Gaels would be a good intermediate team with all the players they lost.

Bar possibly Lacken, who at the same time were a Division One side this year, I wouldn’t expect any of those clubs to be in threat of relegation from intermediate.

It hasn’t exactly done much good for Lavey, Lacken & Shercock hanging around the lower levels of Senior over the past few years.

Awful act,& it looks like he got his own fella & not the knockbride lad.

Nothing will come of it though. All will be swept under the carpet.

Andre Quinn coming back in possibly according to Paul Fitzpatrick. Quite interesting considering how he departed.

He has a child in the Cavan area and doesn’t drive. Therefore they may be able to work on getting him back. My understanding is he only went to Japan as the money was too good to turn down but it was only ever going to be temporary.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2 BreffniBoy123

Heard that alright. It would be a huge boost if we could get him back he’s a serious operator. Aodghan Fox has departed I believe so McCabe will likely bring someone in as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,810 ✭✭✭celt262

There is nothing that i have heard that he will possibly be coming back other than the chairman responding to a question when asked about him. A lot of talk coming out of the County Board in my view is just trying to let people hear what they want to hear and continue as normal.

    1. Andre Quinn
    2. McCabes role will be monitored ( like fcuk it will)

The really simple solution is at leage and championship is to have 4 divisions/ grades. 10 senior, 10 intermediate, 10 junior and 8 junior shield*

top 8 in each into quarters, bottom 2 into a simple relegation battle.

How would it look? Based on current standings, (just for arguement sakes):

Senior: Lough, Gowna, Ramor, Kingscourt, Mullahorn, Ballyhaise, Arva, Gaels, Killygarry, Castlerahan

Intermediate: Ballinagh, Laragh, Bailieborough, Cootehill, Cucus, Bridge, Killinkere, Ballymacugh, Cornafean, Denn

Junior: Lavey, Lacken, KnockBride, Drumgoon, Shercock, Drumlane, Shannon Gaels, Swad, Kill, Belturbet

Junior Shield: Drung, Munchies, Mountnugetn, Killeshandra, Templeport, Killdaan, Drumalee and Redhills.

Would be fairly cut-throat at all levels, no dead rubbers and almost all games would have something on the line.

    *working title :)

Quinn wont be kicking the ball over the bar. He will have teams in good shape like any performance coach, but and maybe less injuries. Though there was lots of knocks when he was there before. There was no improvement with underage results when he was there last

The big boss is getting down to business now in getting blitz's organised for U10's and U12's for the next few weeks in Breffni.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

It’s the youth board running those. The GDM is setting up the regional competition for the U14s again and looking for coaches from the clubs so the whole process can be questionable again.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,810 ✭✭✭celt262

Are the GDC's not working under him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,484 ✭✭✭Cavan_King

It does actually appear you are correct and the blitzs are being run by coaching and games. The U13 grading comp is the youth board.

No juvenile championship finals in Breffni. Who’d get more from playing in Breffni - a 13 or 14 year old playing in a final that may never play there again or a mid 30s club player in yet another boring group game?

    It’s a bit ridiculous.

Clubs given notice of a Tuesday for blitzes starting on a Saturday shows you how well organised they are but better than nothing. Agree on the development squad info, copy and paste from last year, would have hoped Liam Brady might be something fresh to the table but likely finding out there is only person running in the show in there and has final say in all.

Also agree on not putting the underage championship finals in Breffni is a joke, they had all the league finals in there earlier in year and super opportunity for young players to get playing on it. We have had the best summer for I don't know how long, pitches are in good condition now we have got a drop of rain, a few additional juvenile games in there would of done nothing to the playing surface, could even have ran a couple off in a row this Saturday or some of the evenings next week.
