    Can anyone tell me what the Prision Officer weekly schedule is . I found information online that says its 8a.m-8p.m and night duty every 2nd weekend? 8p.m -8a.m Would that be 2 nights or 4? I know that its a 12 hour shift. If someone could clarify what that schedule would be like.

    Then its one week 12h shifts Monday Tuesday off Wednesday and Thursday and then working Friday to Sunday 12h

    Next week only working the weds and Thursday

    Nights are worked in blocks

    I wanted to ask roughly how long did everyone have to wait after sending in your Garda vetting forms before you were sent links for booking the medical?

    Hi everyone,

    I’ve been accepted as a Recruit Prison Officer and I will be training in Portlaoise.
    I know that there is some help or support with accommodation during the training in Portlaoise, but I’m not sure what happens after the training.

    I’m a bit worried that I might be posted to Dublin, because I don’t have anywhere to live there and the rents are very high.

    Can you please tell me:
    – what usually happens after training in terms of posting/assignment?
    – do they give any advice or support about finding accommodation if you get Dublin?
    – how do new recruits normally manage it – house sharing with other officers, commuting from outside the city, anything else?

    Any advice or your own experience would be really appreciated.
    Thanks a lot!

    If you get dublin house sharing is common and you could find a place with people from training. Or you could travel up if you are anywhere of up to 1.30 min of driving. Most officers travel to their jails

    You have plenty of time to find accommodation

    With the drugs test, they do hair during the fitness, results about 2 weeks after, but from then on how do they test? As in do the test while you train and if so is it urine or hair? Also how often do they test?

    @thedigger96

    Exactly. After they do the hair test and you pass, how long if at all before they did another test? During training or much later, also is it hair or urine once youv started working?
