You literally said "it solely came down to him".

Maybe that's not what you meant, but it's what you said.

He was the man in charge. Up to him to have the team ready for battle. They was no battle in the second half by that Cork team. He was partly responsible for that and his tactics in two All Irelands now have been very poor. The manager is very important in how a team performs on the day.

honestly not been smart.iv watched this cork team grow over the last 5 years or so.

They had been the only team good enough to serve it up to limerick when in there pomp.may be They should manage themselves.by all accounts pat Ryan is true cork hurling man and very well respected and I think his been landed under the bus with no choice but to leave.

Tactics are tactics but this cork team in my opinion never trusted the process never owned defeat.no manager Can breed that into a team it has to be led by the group end of. Pat Ryan will be missed and in years to come cork hurling gaa people will realise this. This team should be on the verge off 3 in a row.

Pat is an absolute gentleman and he has left Cork hurling in a better place than when he found it.

He won a League title, and Munster title as manager, he stopped the Limerick drive for five, and he took us to two all Ireland finals and he was unlucky not to be the winning manager in one of them.

His tenure as manager ends on a really sad and depressing note, but perhaps a change of voice and a new approach was needed after a disaster like that.

We enjoyed more good days under Pat Ryan than we did bad though and it's a pity that all Ireland final went so bad after the personal tragedy he had this year.

So yeah cheers Pat and all the best and thanks for what you contributed to Cork hurling. I really hope that Ben O'Connor will be Pat's successor now. He really is the heir apparent for the job imo.

Didn't get ye all the way but before he came in no one seemed to think Cork were going anywhere and won 2 trophies that looked unlikely only a few years ago when ye couldn't even get out of Munster.

His Cork have also been the making of the new Páirc Uí Chaoimh which seemed to be surrounded by nothing but negativity until that night Limerick were beaten down there. The later All Ireland semi was one of the most (if not the most) electric atmospheres I ever witnessed despite the result not going my way.

what are the county board at? No statement acknowledging the man’s commitment and contribution to Cork hurling hours later. Are they sore that he didn’t use them for his statement? Poor form for a good man.

i feel sorry for pat , most hurling people will say unforgivingly that is the right thing to do , but he picked up cork off the ground after an ill fated championship a few years ago and probably had cork playing the best hurling in the country , i personally would have prefered to see him stay on because ye are not far away but its serious boots to fill now for whoever takes over

without a doubt the most likable man in gaa , i hope he enjoys the break away form the game

Why not? If he's the right candidate he'll surely get it

Pat set the players up poorly for that second half, but to go out in the nature they did—by that points margin, is an indication to me that those players didn’t care enough, don’t respect each other and let themselves down.

Agreed on that. Tactics or no tactics, to give a display like the Cork players did in that 2nd half was unacceptable. I find it hard to believe it’s a management thing because it’s more mental (I suppose there’s a couple of % of management in that).

Pat Ryan taking more than a slim blame wouldn’t be fair on it.

Christy o Connor writing in the times says the county board asked him to stay on but he had to freshen up his back room team as a condition, he refused to so county board said good luck and thanks

More chance the CCB would hive me the job I'd say. They would give hin the football job though.

    Has to be Ben.

Thank god he stepped down if he wasn't prepared to change his backroom team. It be more of the same next year if he wasn't going to change that. No way could he go into 2026 and expect to do better with the same clueless backroom team.

Maybe the board were upset that the sports psychologist was off in Australia which in hindsight looks terrible seeing as the final was lost seemingly due to a mental breakdown.

Pat Ryan in examiner interview certainly puts to bed theory of argument at half time. Think it was just some fan started it and was clinged onto for some sort of explanation for second half performance.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,190 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Haven't seen that interview, but, it's actually worse if there was no argument and they went out and performed like that, at least if there was any semblance of truth to the rumours it would go some way to explaining the second half performance.

Hurt wins all Ireland's!! Give Pat one more year and he would bring home the big prize!!

Give him one more year to right the wrongs and Cork supporters will again sell out every game

    That clearly won't be happening.

If hurt won All Irelands, Cork would not be waiting for Liam for a couple of decades.

The supporters will still travel in record numbers.

He also doesn't sound like a man who was getting over confident at half time. He could see like many that Tipp were actually doing better around the pitch despite being behind.

Keep thinking that and we will have a Cork sequel to Unlimited Heartbreak soon.
