Bedside table lamps halogen G4 or GY6.35 bulbs what to replace with for reading

I have two bedside table lamps with G4 or GY6.35 halogen bulbs, one bulb went years ago, and the 2nd went recently, but there are zero markings on the bulb.

I am unsure if dimmable would be the correct bulbs to replace with as they have a three way switch I O II i think it would be.

    I - on (low)

    O - off

    II - on (high)

The problem is that i bought a pack by matching the size of the bulb with the one inside the pack of 50W 12V - 850lm 2900k - GY6.35 - EN60598-1 bulbs and they do not seem bright enough to read with. Also I switch seems the same as II switch.

My understanding is that 2900k (kelvin) is for warm colours up to white light and lumens dictates brightness. But a higher kelvin bulb with a lower lumens would be a decent bulb to read in bed under, without being too bright. 😣 But i am well open to the idea that i could be completely wrong.

The previous bulbs did change from I to II and were bright enough to read with. I did not go for the LED bulbs as I was not sure which to get and thought that they might be too bright.

The G4 in the shop also seemed the same size, but I just picked the others at random.

Slightly tricky question this given that the markings aren't on the original bulbs.

But at a guess I'd say that they were 25w bulbs and not 50w, as 50w had a tendency to burn/ignite stuff, so 25W would have been safer in a reading lamp. Plus that would make sense if the two power settings were not different than each other (as the new bulb was too powerful).

Try a 25w halogen capsule instead, but if you venture into LED bulbs then you'll need to get a dimmable type with an equivalent rating of either 25W or even 50w and just try it out to see if it works with the existing lamp.

    Hope it helps.
