It wasn't dynamic pricing. They just had different batches of tickets with different labels and obviously the cheaper ones got hoovered up first, but the prices were set in advance.

Everyone in the pre-sale got first dibs and got tickets at the lower rates. If they had true dynamic pricing in play, none of us would have got those, the prices would have shot up straight away based on the demand. It didn't.

As people came in later, all that was left were the expensive ones but the prices did not change.

Now, I agree it's ridiculous having three identical tickets called 'regular', 'in demand' and 'platinum' at wildly varying prices, but that's not what dynamic pricing is.

They should bring in a law where all ticket prices (and number of tickets at those prices) have to be advertised before tickets go on sale. Would help put an end to this rubbish. It's obvious their tactic is to keep fans in the dark until they're given the opportunity to buy and have to make a quick decision whether to buy at crazy prices or risk missing out. Feel like this needs government intervention. Put your cards on the table and risk the backlash and let fans make an informed decision.

    Spot on.

Several people here don't understand what dynamic pricing is.

In demand = dynamic when it comes to the ticket price. Changing the name does not change what it is. The people who paid €415 had absolutely no advantage over those of us who paid €166. They were the exact same tickets. Ironically both platinum standing, and premium standing were cheaper than €415, and platinum got early entrance, and premium got a goodie bag.

Lads your talking about this band, promoter and ticket seller as if its a charity you are dealing with!

Supply and demand dictate the cost of everything in this world. Its as simple as that.

I work for what the supply of my profession allows me to charge my employer. This is no different - the market decides the rate.

Well its the first ever gig to my knowledge to charge both 170 and 415 euro for the exact same ticket. So it was fairly noteworthy at the time. Everyone on the planet understands the concept of supply and demand.

Your wrong , this is a licensed.event uses vast amounts of public facilities, resources and space.

Consumers are entitled to fair trading and clarity on price ...this is fairly clear in EU law too.

This Particularly event should have legal action taken against it...

Irish government could easily say, any gig or event using dynamic pricing will not be licenced...or get public services provision..

And to make this event even more complicated, irsh government basically own Croke Park ...well technically GAA...but same thing...

Dynamic/platinum priced tickets has been a thing other gigs in Ireland since covid, Red Hot Chill Peppers had it in 2022 and so did Pearl Jam in 2024

I’ve been to UFC events in Vegas four times, Wrestlemania twice and Garth Brooks in Vegas twice so have had to deal with US dynamic pricing a lot.

It is a disgusting practice and should be illegal.

Price should be set for all seats beforehand and not be allowed to go any higher.

Also the fees on tickets over there are insane, hope that never creeps in over here.

The US Ticketmaster costs are a piss take then that added Las Vegas Entertainment tax bollocks

God knows what Mania 42 will cost

Ah, it was similar to Tay Tay in fairness regarding the merch. I was at both. But tbh all of the mega gigs are the same nowadays in terms of flogging merchandise.

.. anyway… Bring It On Down from Edinburgh just landed on Spotify - probably the weakest part of the gig - and it wasn't that weak!

Will just add my voice to the positivity - I think (and time will tell), but that is very much in the very top 3 gigs I've ever been to, if not the best, it was quite incredible. I didn't, but if I had of paid €600 for a ticket, I would be thinking it was well spent. Remarkable day really - well done lads!

The Government own Croke Park? LOL are you serious or joking?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,522 ✭✭✭crl84

Councils licence events, not "the government".

Re pricing and Oasis and Taylor Swift

Oasis were 2 hours with a top support (RA) and a so so support (Cast).

Taylor Swift was on stage for 3.5 hours and had a top support (Paramore).

95% of the gigs will not offer as much to the fans as the above so I do think the prices (not rip off ones) charged for the above were justified and easily (IMO) worth €200 per ticket, but that shouldn't mean other concerts follow suit when they don't offer anything like that kind of value - for example Lana Del Rey (who I love) playing 1 hour 20 mins and having Banks (a good support but not RA or Paramore levels) as support.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 970 ✭✭✭FazyLucker

Yeah, you simply have to justify it. If people leave feeling short-changed you'll have used your once-off grift.

    Wrong.

    The prices advertised were

    €94.05 - €261.75

THey were still advertised as such right up until the day before the gig.

Tickets went above this due to demand, therefore pricing changed dynamically.

This is even better news...very easy to gather a somewhat left leaning council and refuse concert permission for any dynamic pricing events.

Anyway , imagine will be an eu action as consumer rights will have to be considered with online space...

bands and artists on major labels are still getting tour payments from labels to a small extent. Even back 10 years ago there were generous for indie bands to join tours as supports .

look up major acts like bicep and chemical brothers, they aren’t rolling in it. acts playing vicar st level barely break even on tours now. Rely on festival fees and merch etc
    Plenty of articles like

    oasis used platinum ticket pricing.
the figure going around was oasis guarantee was £100m for the dozen or so uk & Ireland shows. When settlement is being done now I’m sure it’s in the £150m range

Didn't realise the stadium situation in Toronto

Temporary setup in the middle of nowhere

hi, did anyone collect tickets for the Croke Park gigs from the box office on Mountjoy Square. If you did what did the box office open? Thanks

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,250 ✭✭✭✭mfceiling

Collected ours at 4.45. There was already a queue there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 970 ✭✭✭FazyLucker

Anyway, in even better news.....Saturday night happened in "government owned Croke Park" and everybody there one of the best nights of our lives.

Plenty of old Abe Simpson yelling at cloud from those who weren't there.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,548 ✭✭✭Mrs Shuttleworth

I wasn't there very simply because I didn't fight for a ticket - as I genuinely didn't believe this would actually go ahead.

Glad I was wrong. Robbie tomorrow nite to capture some energetic residue.

I feel incredibly sorry for anyone heading to Robbie Williams tomorrow. I even feel half sorry for the man himself. People literally giving away 150 quid+ tickets. How could anybody that was there last weekend even notionally get excited for tomorrow. Robbie will be finished Monday and half the country will still be talking about oasis
