I can see why RA is so annoyed being honest. VAR should have spotted this a sent the ref to review.

Why was there no VAR today? Very odd. Don't remember any game last season that didn't show one VAR replay.

It looked nailed on in real time and the reason only confirmed.it for me. Mike Dean talking some serious pony on Sky saying it's not a peno because it's foot on foot contact.

    Positive performance

We need a unit with a big personality at gk

    Midfield is fine imho

I couldn't understand how more of the United players weren't calling for it at the time. Seemed a stonewall peno to me.

If it was the other end, I think the Arsenal players would've been hounding the ref about it.

In fairness to the ref, he had a very good game today but VAR is supposed to catch these clear amd obvious errors.

What the fluck does foot on foot contact mean. Pony is right!

How could you possibly conclude that midfield is fine? Genuinely curious.

Casemiro was great today but we can hardly count on him staying fit and effective all year?

Pity we couldn't win that today...would have been a great start...feel for Amorim as he really needs to start getting wins especially at OT...what's his win ratio now...can only be in the 30% range or so at this stage which is terrible

Mike Dean is a serious wannabe. Talks absolute nonsense and is just click bait for sky.

The pre/post matches now are dire with sky pundits. TnT prides itself to the American audience really, but do better even though the bar is low.

Don't offer any insight at all just like filler.

    Used to be better.

Amorim deserves time. He's clearly not a bluffer. I would be completely ignoring his win ratio at the moment. It's not normal times for a club like United.

Much to Rashford's delight I'm sure, there is a serious transition happening at the club at the moment. Definite signs of the Titanic being turned around but it just needs some time.

He doesn't deserve a free pass but the signs are positive for me. I'm confident he knows what needs to be done.

The side is there to compete with the top 6 sides and the reality of all the fans looking for a foul on the keeper today somehow is a laughable joke.

We never looked like scoring but played very well as an away side at home.

Keeper & Ugarte issue needs to be sorted out. It’s a massive oversight to think those two issues will go away - they won’t.

Sure there will be usual fanboys breaking down what I’ve said there and as per usual I won’t give a toss.

There is a great side there but we need a spark - what is it?

Positive performance but next week will be the bigger test imo. Fulham away and Burnley at home with a trip to Grimsby in between. Wouldn't mind seeing changes rung for that game.

We've seen plenty of times a United team turn up and look good against better teams and then follow it up with a lackluster performance the following week.

Next week is a bigger test!?? - omfg we played a team today that played tripe and have a chance to win the league but still won.

There’s a great side there that requires a Cantonesque player to take the bull by the horns and hit the net with a shot the keeper can’t save.

No snap today lost us the game but the 1992 fans will somehow say our keeper got fouled and his hair got tossed. I’m very sure the stats lads will blame the cut of the pitch.

We need to get stuck in and hit 6th gear. Not 4th.

Utd are busy in the gossip pages tonight

Manchester United are weighing up whether to make a bid for Crystal Palace and England midfielder Adam Wharton, 21. (Talksport)

It's seldom I watched Palace so I cannot comment on Wharton, any good?

AC Milan are keen to push through a 35m euros (£30.2m) deal for Denmark and Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund, 22, but are also considering Juventus and Serbia forward Dusan Vlahovic, 25, as an alternative. (La Gazzetta dello Sport)

However, United have committed their transfer funds to other positions after inquiring about Aston Villa and Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, 32, and Paris St-Germain and Italy stopper Gianluigi Donnarumma, 26. (Telegraph - subscription required), external

Jadon Sancho's salary is the sticking point in a £20m move from Manchester United to Roma. The 25-year-old England winger is keen to see if any other clubs step in and match his weekly wages of about £250,000. (Teamtalk)

Roma have also made contact with Manchester United about a deal for 26-year-old Netherlands left-back Tyrell Malacia, who is also interesting Besiktas. (Fabrizio Romano)

Loved that narkyness in the interview by Ruben. Previous managers have been too soft in the press conferences the last few years. Mourinho was probably the last one that gave any bit of attitude back to them. Klopp, Pep have been doing it for years too, getting thick with reporters over stupid questions. Slot doesn't seem to have a problem doing it either.

Might stop some of the nonsense reporting when it comes to United by certain journalists.

We finished second the season before Cantona arrived.

We need the accept there's going to be some adjustment needed as we settle into the season.

This time next year I'd be expecting us to hit the ground running.

We've had opening day wins in recent seasons before having absolutely deplorable seasons afterwards.

The key thing is we looked like we had a gameplan today. We need to build on it for sure, but it's not the different approach every week Ten Hag Prochessh nonsense we had at the start of last season.

Agreed about the gameplan, he hasn’t changed anything in that regards, the players positioning and his outlook stays the same and I respect that.

I’m just on about Snap, something different - something of ultra quality….. a player that stands out.

Point you made about Cantona plays right into my hands….. we went from second to first because of him.

We need someone to be amazing, to score a Goal. That’s what the game is, people break it down in stats that don’t mean a thing - only stat that counts is how many goals is scored.

Wharton is a very good player and described as Michael Carrick esq with his passing ability.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,008 ✭✭✭AidoEirE

Hes quality, I was hoping we'd put a bid in earlier. That gossip bit came out before the Arsenal game, just thought its worth saying before any hyperbole after the result today.

    Wharton would be quality signing.

We seen two today in Mbeumo and Cuhna who look a absolute threat as 10's. Sesko will add another dimension once he gets a full 90mins under him.

Palace look likely to sell eze and guehi I doubt they will be letting warton go for anything close to market value probably be another huge price tag thrown on him

My point about Cantona was that United were already a very well developed side in 92, we're nowhere near that level now.

In a years time I'd like to see us being seen as a though opponent for anyone in the league who are seen as contenders for top honours.

At that point you add your Cantona-esque player, hopefully a midfielder and a new keeper to boot.

The United that finished second to Leeds was miles ahead of the side that finished 15th last season. It's an Apples and oranges comparison.

This was the first games of the season for both teams but we played the team who finished twice in the past couple of seasons, had the best defence last season, and battered them for almost the entire game. It took some good luck, a couple of great saves from Raya, the pist, and VAR not doing g it's job, for us to not get anything out of the game.

I'll need to see more of this in the coming weeks but today was a breath of fresh air.

Our scouting set up pre Ineos must have been a shambles, Wharton was at Blackburn, almost next door to Manchester and yet Crystal Palace managed to scout him and got him for £20m, will cost us multiples of that to get him now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,288 ✭✭✭Manc-Red_

Looking forward to the next game, bit a quality there that just requires polishing and cut-throat manager’s behaviour.

We all expect a bad August and September but I’m hoping for a surprise. There is a chance with that team.

Compare todays performance to last seasons opener against Fulham, we won that by the skin of our teeth and were absolutely shocking.

Ten Hag was evidently clueless and we lost our next two games and the performances just never improved at all.

Today was a step in the right direction, we need to see it consistently, but there was an energy and unity of purpose from the players in that performance that I haven't seen from any United side post Ferguson.
