What in the **** was Branno on about. He feels guilty for going to a concert because it may result in him not thinking about Gaza? Absolute nonsensical take.

Ken came across as quite smug too, i had to turn it off, felt completely pointless when he has such a dislike of them

I’ve grown to like Branno but he talks some shîte sometimes. As for Ken, he should stick to the football and the politics and leave the musical criticism to others.

That episode is up there with some of Noel Gallagher's worst songs.

That first 3 minutes today of Branno wallowing on smugly about how he is looking forward to signing wonderqall but equally is intelligent enough to know he should be sad about the going’s on of the world - was the worst piece of SC material I’ve ever heard.

It seems some nerves have been touched.

The relevant word in your post is "choreographed".

Riverdance is athletic, it's not sport.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Branno talking absolute bollox on todays pod IMO. You can't enjoy anything ever because somewhere something bad is happening.

The literal formula to be guaranteed to have an email read on air is say you’re living in the extremely random place that they mention and then concoct a story where a confirmed Barclays Man from 15-20 years ago appears and does something so mildly entertaining as to be believed in lieu of comprehending the existential horror that someone’s fiction could be so banal.

Ken's right about Pink Pony Club being a great song.

Ken was right about oasis just being a pastiche.

He was completely wrong to try lead the contributers down the path of saying oasis fans are nationalist and basically wanted them to link them to the Brexit crowd etc.

Branno needs his head checked if he thinks people are not allowed switch off at a gig because Gaza is happening. Does he f*cking switch off when he goes to Bohs matches??? I like him but Jesus what a weirdo.

Also Ken must come from a very wealthy family. He off sauntering around America and china at a young age ha.

Yeah the Oasis pod was odd. Ken was just repeating the derivative point in the clear hope that someone would argue the point with him, and when that didn't happen then there was no substance left.

The contributors seemed sound, they just had no business being on really.

Hope these Friday pods pick up after the summer.

I was also slightly disappointed with the PL preview pod. I had been looking forward to it and I don't know why it just seemed to miss the mark. Maybe just me.

Kinda agree about the preview pod I liked it but wanted more. When compared to the guardian football weekly preview pod it seems very lacking as they went team by team over two pods talking about the new season.

Second captain's basically talked about the big 6. Again I liked it but thought there could have been more.

Oasis are a derivative act but there is nothing necessarily wrong with that….. but Oasis are a very arrogant band, all their talk of “best band in the world” is a bit much when Noel admits he is just rewriting other people’s songs, a musical magpie. He is very critical of other people’s music, people who make non derivative music, such as Brian Wilson who did things musically Noel could never dream of, the complex harmonies, the unorthodox song structures, the lush arrangements. That being said I think “Rock and Roll star” is going to go down better in a stadium full of drunks than “Good Vibrations”. But considering Noel’s musically inadequacies some humility on his part might be a good idea.

You've made a complete point with a relevant example. Ken made half a point and tried to drag a show out of it.

Ken did all the teams on the anfield wrap this week but don't listen if you don't like Neil Atkinson.

The top five predictions were especially amateurish.

Thanks for this - didn't know the guardian had that up. It's probably more what I'm looking for, will find time to give it a listen.

I'm not an Oasis super fan - I find them a bit boring tbh - but I wouldn't be deaf to why people love them either, but I think Ken really shouldn't be let talk about music really on the show. He was trying very hard to find a reductive or negative angle the entire time - it got a bit tiresome. His takes on music, generally, are very suspect. He did have that one line about "I don't even like going to gigs"… Says it all really, IMO.

Overall I thought it wasn't that bad of an episode, despite Ken's efforts - the contributors had some interesting things to say, beyond the pure nostalgia gushing that I've heard elsewhere in the last few days.

I sorta get the point that Branno was making, but it came across as a bit sanctimonious and performative.

I'd give Sweeney credit for saying there is good music now, he could easily be one of those 'Everything was better back in my day' bores.

As someone with a passing interest at best in Oasis, they were unbelievable. Atmosphere was incredible

I'd rather they'd play over the hills and far away 😉

near everything Branno says is sanctimonious and performative

    I wouldn't be a fan either.

When he's on I can't help but think of The Simpsons episode when 'Itchy & Scratchy' introduce Poochie as a new character - Doesn't add much and breaks up the dynamic.

I don't really disagree a great deal with what he has to say most of the time, but he can come across as a bit smug.

Enjoyed all the Oasis chat because I’m a fanboy and it’s relevant to me because I spent an absolute fortune travelling across the world for two gigs. Ken, Branno et al can try talk them down, and they have some valid points, but the proof was in the pudding last night. An all timer gig with everyone just having a great time, not many bands are able to do that these days.
