agree with Andrew the flaps do open every time I’ve charged from a DC charge point (I don’t have a home charger - yet!)

Here’s another way to make the flaps open (and then immediately close - sometimes twice!) - ‘turn on’ the car remotely with the key fob as you would to pre warm or pre cool the car:

    • state of car: turned off and locked.
    • press ‘Lock’ button on the key fob
    • hazard lights will then flash - immediately press and hold the ‘Hold’ button while the hazards are still flashing
    • dashboard + Info screens will then come on and the ‘machine gun’ flaps will open + close 😊

Obviously you will then need to get in the car to switch off in the normal way (with foot on the brake) and then re lock the car

I must be thick, @AndrewJRenko but what is “a TL;DR update”?

I've a battery monitor ("BM2") device on both cars. You can see it on the phone app.

Too late/didn't read. I'm basically asking for anyone who watched the videos to sumarise the outcome.

OMG that's some serious black magic.. Will have to interpret this and try.

The I5 can self-park & move forwards/backwards from key fob, but never messed with these either.

Will have to gain some more knowledge of the fob - at least for the Inster..

(P.S. I never charged the Inster from DC)

    Hyundai Inster

    • stable and controllable and passed the swerve/slalom tests at 76kph

    Dacia Spring

    • UNstable and UNcontrollable and FAILED the swerve/slalom tests at 76kph (quite spectacularly!)

TLDR - Too long don’t read

Hi, Heading to Belfast for W5 and Titanic on Monday from Bray.

based on your previous trips to Belfast what would you recommend in terms of charging strategy? Eg on way back stop at Ionity in Belfast or run to Banbrisge?

I assume I will use about 250km on way up and have about 100km left on a 100% charge. Banbridge is on the main road back to Dublin is the Ionity a detour?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,946 ✭✭✭PGE1970

The Banbridge supercharger is in The Boulevard which is on/just off the A1 (the main road).

There's plenty of shops/cafes available for a pitstop.

Would you get 350km on a full charge? Unless you drive at 80kmph, I'd be looking for that in my 60kw Tesla M3H nevermind my wife's 49kw Inster!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Bacchus

Yeah that feels like an optimistic range. We did our longest trip so far in the Inster. 110km round-trip. Mostly on 80km-100km roads… about 20km of motorway. The range dropped by about 125km. On a full charge, I probably wouldn't be counting on anything more than 300km (less if there's a decent chunk of >110km/hr driving involved). Maybe it'd get a bit more than that but I'd plan any trip to max out at 300km before needed a recharge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 mustyrocks

I average around 340km per full charge on the 49kwh Inster about town and on motorway runs doesn’t really impact it much more.

The cruise control with HDV etc makes a huge difference to consumption.

But I do agree the range will drop much more and a longer motorway run. So probably way too optimistic of me.

Will be interested to see what the chap doing the Belfast runs thinks as he was suggesting he only needed to stop at Ionity or Banbridge on way back.

It’s 220km from home to Titanic which then leaves about 30% to recharge somewhere on way back.

You might be better charging on the way up?

You'll get fastest charging between 30%-80%. If 80% will get you from Banbridge to Titanic and then home, it might be worth stopping on the way up to charge to 80% unless you are pressed for time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 mustyrocks

    That’s a possibility.

The FastNed app recommend stopping on way up for 6min charge and then on way back for 17min. Assuming 100% charge and 20% left at Banbridge on way up.

Will be interesting to see what the reality is.

Rear ‘parcel shelf’ storage solution #5…

Oh dear, methinks I’ma obsessed 😮

    IMG_8886.jpeg

this solution still allows you to access the under floor 2nd and 3rd boots, but you can only lift the floor about halfway. Personally, I’m probably going to put the thing in a wardrobe because I just don’t need it. But for those who want to keep it in the car ‘just in case’ then this solution, or inside the small floor gap beneath the ‘flappy things’, are useful options 😊

With privacy glass in rear windows, there does not seem much point to this unless it could act as a 'parcel shelf' for odd things for rear passengers.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,893 ✭✭✭Bacchus

Finding out about that hook under the false floor was a game changer for the boot. The shelf is in the attic. Shopping bags, and one or two other random "always in the boot" items are under the false floor, keeping the boot looking very tidy. Whenever the bit of extra space is needed, just use the hook to hold up the false floor. Also, I realized I'd never moved the rear seats forward at all. The 8 and 5 year old have acres of space. Nudged them up an inch (don't want them too close… putting their feet up on the front seats) and it really makes a huge difference in the boot.

Have ordered the 2nd Inster now, this time in khaki :)

Got a call from the same guy I dealt with back in Feb when I picked up my Black one and delivery date should be 5th of Nov. He said the dates are usually spot on.

How come there's still a waiting list here? UK buyers buy from stock nowadays with dealers competing with each other handing out huge discounts.

This car will fall out of favour once Twingo, id.1, id.2 and 40kwh R5 hit Market but Hyundai must be absolutely loving the healthy sales and CO2 credits they are getting and now that Hyundai and Kia are in this A-class segment they are not going away.

Getting quotes at crazy prices for insurance on the Inster Elegance (in Ireland). Any advice on who is the best. Petrol car reweal was quoted at €330 but the lowest for the Inster is €500 and upto €800!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 33,451 ✭✭✭✭AndrewJRenko

123.ie had very little impact on cost for us, even though we switched from Third Party Fire and Theft on the oul one to Comprehensive on the Inster.

Because of the colour. The other colours he said I'd have a car before the end of August.

Aviva was the cheapest for me at around 350eur but I have max no claims bonus and another person on the policy which makes it cheaper as well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,102 ✭✭✭cobham

Mine is due next week, 428 euro with AXA

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27 Cream2000

Hi glen123, Aviva quoting me 490 euro. Like you I have max no claims and another person on the policy. Dont know why they are so high. I just did an online quote, did you do it that way?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 721 ✭✭✭glen123

Yes, I did it online. I've just got another quote from them out of interest and it's €413.46 now. Maybe it's because I am a female of a certain age and certain job title that it's less than 490 for me but prices seem to have gone up all right.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 150 ✭✭EV01

you can easily get £5k off list for ‘in stock’ cars in UK w/out waiting if you’re prepared to travel, and that’s on many colours. I wanted the ‘free’ Ivory anyway (to reflect sunlight, especially with summer temps here 30c+ I dont want the battery being ‘heat degraded’) so I was able to have the 02/Elegance on my drive @£5k off 7 days after I first saw it listed

my insurance (‘Elegance’/02) was £250 (in May) with LV=. I don’t think they trade in Ireland but they are owned by Allianz so it might be worth getting their quote?

    Ref Insurance renewal:

I posted already about this not impressed!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37 mustyrocks

Actuarial tables are a funny thing.

    What was your old car?

Locations play a huge part, did you move recently etc..

Areas are often redesignates based on crime rates etc too.

I am with 123 and my insurance is 380. Just did a quote with Redclick and roughly same price.

So all I can suggest is something has changed for you.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,025 ✭✭✭Exiled Rebel

I agree it's leave a bitter taste in the my mouth but the fist oil service with the ice will cost you the difference in the insurance quotes + all the extra you'll pay in motor tax and fuel.

I had a 2018 Kona, still in the same place for years, is there loading for an EV?

The only thing that has changed as far as I can tell, is Liberty had it last year and now redclick have it.

Anyway I guess I'm going to have to search around. 😑
