I don't know how effective an external campaign would be to be honest.

Anyone who used to be active left for a reason and not much has really changed since the move to Vanilla that caused the last exodus.

Trying to attract new users to a site that greets them with full page ads/pop-ups and dire warnings about it's immediate future isn't likely to encourage them to pull out their wallet either.

No, I think those who are still here are the ones the site owners need to convince, and the momentum there seems to have largely fallen away unfortunately.

That's unfortunately the level of online debate and polarisation nowadays.

You're either all in on something without reservations, or you're against us is essentially the mindset.

Then, if you're "for" a particular side of an issue, you must automatically be on the same ideological/political side for any other issue.

The concept that you can be supportive of one thing, but wholly against another has gotten lost it seems, replaced with hysterical hyperbole - for example : object to the benefits and exemptions given to Ukrainians? You must be a supporter of genocide, have a poster of Putin on your wall, and a subscription to Pravda!

It's tiresome really!

Highlighting grave biases in moderation is not a grudge, moderators should be objective, rational and level headed.

They should act as a neutral participant in a debate or discussion.

They shouldnt be abrupt or post inflammatorial content.

They shouldnt be making sweeping statements about large groups of people, religious groups or labelling other posters as Nazis or angry racist incel types.

If they are not able to do this they should recuse themselves from speaking on certain topics or else step down from their moderator role.

Its an uneven playing field.

There are valid reasons why I haven't subscribed. I don't know where exactly the sub will go. I don't know what the plan is. And we all suspect Boards ownership don't know either.

Everything is so slipshod. When you hear a management statement to the effect this was coming since July 2021 and the Vanilla changeover.. like had no one any foresight or organisational skill to plan then..

There's a a serious amount of I love boards more than you BS being spouted. I've subscribed and you haven't talk. In reality there's a lot more nuance.

I've posted on the weather fora since 2010, I love relaxing posting on the Late Late thread. But I'm not convinced by Boards management re. a sub. The ads is a fecking fiasco.

They can't fix a flickering thread for 9 mts, what chance they'll save a site.

It's not so much the change in the ads as the nefarious ads (I would guess) - there was one for Australia some time ago that many people complained about, that you couldn't get rid of and took up the whole page. It's likely more to do with the provider they are using not bothering their arse to vet the ads they are supplying - bit of javascript, take up the whole page, and force you to interact with the ad to get rid of it. Why they need to use a third party provider when Google has built in ad sense is beyond me. Having the intrusive ads like some have screen shotted just screams scam site that wants to try and make as much money off you by just visiting the site then tries to scam you for more money
