You've got to laugh at their determination. Court case or no court case.

Renewed for 9 months half price in under 5 mins today. Rang last month and they wouldnt budge off 6 months half price no matter what argument i used. Was over 30 mins on phone to them that day.

I was ready to cancel today but didn't need to.

Seems to depend on what sales agent you get

i did the 12 months half price deal last year from here and it worked .

So my contact was up again this year and saw the 9 months link half price deal signed up for it but two days later someone posted the new 12 month half price deal so did that one also .

Rang them yesterday turns out they accepted the 12 month half price again this year
And seems to ignore fact I signed up for the 9 month one days earlier lol 😆

My experience is that you need to cancel and then apply for the discount few days later

Are you in a new contract? It's very expensive to break a BB contract.

Maybe they keep it on record. First line in the T&C's

"Existing Virgin Media Customer Loyalty Offer: Offer applies ONCE per existing Virgin Media Broadband and/or TV residential customers who have received the ‘Half Price for 12 months offer’ SMS only"

Hi. Just want to double check that you used half price link for the previous year and then again recently and it has worked?

I saw a later post in the thread saying half price offer can only be used ONCE per account....

I used the 12 month link in August 2024.

I tried half price for 12 months link again a couple of months ago. Last 2 bills have both had full price. Worked ok last year ☹️

Log in to your account to make sure it's cancelled.

Paying 75e pm with VM for 500mb broadband and phone line(never used, don't have a phone). Never been offered a reduction in cost in 10 years only increases.

Upgrade happening in area and I have been offered by Eir door knocker 1gb x 34.99pm for 2 years. 4e yearly. Or 5gb for 49.99 pm x 2 years plus increase. This should reduce a mobile in household by 10e a month too.

    Hard offer to refuse.

I've contacted VM to cancel and they could only offer 500mbs for 55pm. So Eir it is.

Just pretend you're a new customer, use a different email and change your name slightly you'll get it for €35 a month BB only.

Has anyone signed up for the deal with switcher (€100 off bill) while being a current VM customer? My contract is up on the 20th, the deal runs until the 13th.

Slightly different name and email address all that's needed?

irrespective of provider, its great to see ppl finally marching with their feet and switching to find a better deal.

Had an eir rep at my door. Offered €40 per month for 500gb BB. Says it's better BB cos it's not coming through SIRO. Not sure what this means?

Says Eir will give up to €200 to break a contract with another provider. Anyone heard if this is a thing? I'm currently with SKy for TV and BB.

Has anyone signed up under their partners name and then cancelled their account?

I was flat out refused the 12 months half price, best they could do was 6 months half price. I wonder if I sign up under my wives name and then just cancel my account would that work?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 535 ✭✭✭Banzai600

sky can take over the line now thats running to your house, same line that virgin were using - thats what they did when we canned virgin.

get a sky engineer appointment out and go from there.

Signing up under your wife’s name will work for the new customer offer. The two services can overlap if you’re concerned about being temporarily cutoff.
Edited to add, give your 30 days notice and arrange for your wife to sign up to get the new equipment a day or two before the service is cutoff.

I do it yearly. However, i don't have a wife so my alter ego signs up as a new customer: bren2002.

I've literally cancelled my account, asked to be put through to sales and handed the phone to my wife so she can sign up without a loss of service. I've done that a few times over the last 6 - 8 years or so. Never an issue, they send out a new box and you just change them out. One year a loyalty team agent tried to be difficult and a smart ass about it and I told him my wife and I were seperated but living under the same roof, he couldn't argue with it.

I've even rang up immediately after the changeover and asked for my wifes account to be merged with my online account so I can continue to use the old login details.

If I am not given 9 months half price I always swap between myself and the wife and I am up front with them about this too. It often leads to them offering 9 months half price immediately. Last year I used the 12 months half price online offer so didn't have to change the account at all.
