    Hi All,

    VW MK8 Golf.

Got the Key battery needs replacing showing on dashboard, replaced battery but its still showing, tried again and its still showing. Both set of keys have new batteries, yet warning is still appearing on dashboard. Went to an auto lock place, they tried same, still showing up. Rang VW dealership and they have advised car needs a diagnostics check but they have a 2 month waiting list. Has anyone any advice or experienced similar?

Just to note, the dealership I bought car from originally is gone, replaced by different dealer

    Thanks

Do you have the owner's manual? There might be a procedure there to follow after replacing the key battery.

Or you could try disconnecting the car's 12V battery for 15 minutes?

Were they those Duracell batteries with the child proof taste sticker on them? Had problems with them myself, brand new in 2 separate keys and neither worked. Put another brand in and they were fine, think it was Panasonic.

No unfortunately, tried 3 different brands, none fixed the solution.

VW Airside quoting me €190 for diagnostic check and then see what issue is, ouch

May be unrelated but I found the only batteries that worked in my VW key were the ones from Aldi. Went through 3 or 4 random ones around the house before discovering this. One was new Duracell and one Lidl multi pack and something else. All worked in other gadgets.

In case it fails completely there is a rescue spot on the dash (most cars anyway). Look for the RFID symbol (bit like a wifi symbol) and hold the key next to it, it will start even with a dead fob battery. Probably on the centre console or near the radio/MMI.
