Yes Malen, Onana, Bogarde & Garcia to step up this season, Rogers to continue to develop, Ramsey to stay injury free, likewise Tielemans, Pau & Mings.

Personally I would like an upgrade on Cash(some like him, Emery seems to, just not a fan myself) and I would like a versatile winger, Bailey out and someone in would be my preference if we are not gonna do much business those are the 2 I would like to improve on.

There's so much panic online about signings. Nobody knows what squad morale is like, and if it's in good stead, I'm not worried at all.

Having said that - there are a couple of positions that need competition. Kamara is so important to results - that's a massive signing.

    the cheek of Man Utd!

He should be our starting keeper this season unless someone gives us too much money to say no to and enough to get in a proper replacement which a loan obviously wouldn’t achieve.

I think a few Signings are needed as I think the squad is weaker than what started last season. Down Carlos, Duran, Philogene, Ndeljkovic, Olsen From first team not sure if I missed any others. Added Malen and Garcia, Ozcan, Bizot. Hopefully Bizot an upgrade on Olsen. Garcia Ndel similar , Malen upgrade on Philogene. I’d say Ozcan won’t be close to playing yet so that would mean no replacement yet for Duran or Carlos. Maybe If Bogarde becomes more used we need less but think he is best in midfield where we have options already

sorry lads, but all the other top teams have spent big. We haven’t brought in anyone. Are we really clinging to the hope that the lads we have will magically step up? Obviously this psr thing is killing us. We’ll do well to get 8th next season.

I think the current transfer window will hurt us when it comes to challenging last season’s top 4. The teams around us are having bad windows too, maybe worse than Villa so still possible to push for 5th and that is with the assumption that Chelsea make their spending work. In terms of this transfer window who below us has obviously improved? Probably Manchester United and Spurs probably will but they have a lot of points to make up if we can be close to what we did last year. I say all this as someone who thinks this is a poor window for Villa in terms of improvement but we do still have Emery and I think he is better than every manager with the teams we are probably competing with.

Surprised Villa aren’t interested in a Grealish loan. Looks like Pep doesnt want him so you could end up getting him with most his wages subsidized.

I think this is the kind of thing Villa are gonna try do, like with Rashford and Asensio which is why it’s slow

He’s a washed up playboy at this stage on huge wages. Not a chance with our PSR issues.

no more washed up than rashford was when you signed him, and unlike rashford no one can doubt his effort and commitment once on the pitch.

I think Jack would probably go to someone like Spurs. He would improve our squad but the critical thing for me is that Tuchel likes him and the World Cup next year would be a huge motivation to perform. But yes agreed not on the wages he’s on.

Why did Villa sell our women’s team? It’d seem we are more concerned with UEFA’s PSR rules than the league’s and UEFA does not allow such transactions to count towards their profit and loss margins under their Financial Fair Play rules.

I guess it gets the league off our backs for a few years while we try to get our wage ratio in order

To avoid selling someone before July 1st in a rushed deal below value I’d imagine

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,694 ✭✭✭LeBash

Al Nassr are apparently looking for Pau.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,694 ✭✭✭LeBash

Newcastle being linked with Watkins to replace Isak if Liverpool do get him and Chelsea apparently looking at an 80 m bid for Rogers.

Ozcan gone out on loan to Anderlecht as well a couple of days ago. Hopefully lots of game time

Anderlecht have a buy option strangely, so I think the intention is to make a profit on him rather than have him back

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭cgorzy

Disappointing to see a buy option in the Ozcan deal, would like to see a belief Villa can scout and develop first team players. Anderlecht don’t pay big fees so difficult to see what sort of fee could be agreed that would work for both teams. For Villa to make a worthwhile profit he’d need to be a record signing for Anderlecht and that seems unlikely unless they know they too can sell on immediately, in which case it’s a poor deal for Villa as they could action the same sale.

There seems to be a few head scratchers like that in the past few windows. Nedjelkovic cost us a good few million in January 24, was left with his club, then moved on in January 25.
His replacement Garcia has looked ok on a few occasions but seems to be out of favour very quickly also.
Barrenechea has never kicked a ball for us competitively despite breaking into the Argentinian squad last season.
Dobbin looks like half the player that Orugbunam was.

I know that the last two were purely for psr reasons but we seem to take in a lot of players and then discard them very quickly.

No bother if you make a profit, but you have to

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 131 ✭✭cgorzy

Yeah and even where there is some profit it is not at a scale to make much difference for first team transfers. Would need to be buying and moving on 20-30 players a year.

If looking to trade players for profit we probably need to get young players into the first team squad and playing 10-20 games even as sub. That will help them hit a few trigger points in the analytics models upping their estimated value. Sad I know!

Out of the blue a bit, but we're nicking a Palace target, and given their success in raiding French teams, this is promising.

His stats aren't overwhelming but £30million is about par for a squad player these days and an option to Ollie

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,694 ✭✭✭LeBash

12 goals and 8 assists in 33 games last season isnt bad at all. He played a few games from the 10 and wings as well.

We are really lacking goals in the current squad, outside of Watkins and Rogers I dont think anyone broke 5 goals in the PL thats still with us?

New 3 year contract for Digne according to The Athletic. Guessing on less than current salary. Interesting, thought it would be a move towards Maatsen playing most of the games this year.

3-0 up against Roma at half time. Time to rotate the starting 11 and draw 3-3 as the case has been for the last few games.

I had not realised my membership had expired last month (was sure I set auto-renew) so I missed the game as my manual renewal obviously hasn’t synched up yet.

I therefore missed the game but I’m reading some worrying news about Rogers going off injured. Anyone see this and how it looks?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,377 ✭✭✭Patser

AVL Statto twitter account saying both Digne and Mings took paycuts to get new contracts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,694 ✭✭✭LeBash

I dont think so, I doubt if we were 1 down in a league match he would have come off. I could be wrong but it looked more a preseason precaution to me personally.

We are super lucky (im touching wood here) with how durable the 2 lads who scored the most goals in the squad are.
