For the transfer restrictions is this the overall squad or the Uefa registered squad, then it is the squad as of January or from the start of last season? Are the profits on Duran and Carlos sales irrelevant to this calculation. Then there is Malen who wasn’t registered in January is that deal included? Do Villa start at a loss by registering Malen? Anyone know??

I think its done on wages to revenue and we were at 91% in the 23/24 season. AFAIK it needs to be 80% this year and 70% next year. I heard it somewhere but could be wrong.

I think reading it Villa have a transfer restrictions separate to the squad cost requirements. Basically can’t make a loss on Signings, but I can’t see is that as of the start of the season and is it against the Uefa listed squad? If it’s the UEFA listed squad then we lose Rashford, Asensio , Disasi. Good for squad cost ratio to revenue but net 0 for transfer activity. Maybe I am misunderstanding how it works. Then there is Malen who wasn’t on the UEFA list, does registering Malen mean we start at a loss with the current squad. Same with Garcia. Then the big question around the January sales, irrelevant as they were, I presume, removed from the squad in February. If that is the case it would seem, to me, to effectively be a punishment for us qualifying for later rounds as they would count in transfer activity if we had been knocked out earlier. Sorry long message but I am struggling to understand the exact impact of the transfer restrictions.

Really tricky thing to legislate… like, are they doing it for just the amount spent on a transfer this summer? Or the total fee? For instance you can buy someone for 60 million, but pay in 3 instalments of 20. Do they count that as 60 million out, or just 20? And then there's things like potential add-ons for a transfer - your 60 million player could end up costing 80 million if you win the league or something, so do they base it on the highest possible cost, or the lowest possible cost? Lots of ways deals could be structured to skirt around whatever the specific rules are.

seems Asensio isn’t going to wait around all summer to see if Villa can sign players and is off to Turkey with Fenerbache.

We have a deal for the keeper from Breast, Bizot done is the word. 34 year old, touted as a back up.

Back up keeper must be an extremely hard sell to a lad who's been starting but hopefully its true and managed

Romano posted Al Hilal made an enquiry for Watkins earlier this week. No formal bid yet.

Bailey being looked at by Fenerbahce and no did either. They are cleaning up signings this window.

Barrenechea being talked about to Benfica this morning also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,243 ✭✭✭pavb2

Strange one I would have thought Barrenechea is exactly the type of player we should be keeping.

With regards to this transfer window I think it’s equally important we retain our core players such as Kamara, Rogers, Tielemans, Torres etc rather than who we bring in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,698 ✭✭✭LeBash

If he's not going to be a starter, we will probably be willing to sell. Hes not going to be worth more sitting on our bench and if we need cash, a loan is probably not ideal. Pity, lots of hype around him ar Valencia.

If Kamara isnt making good noises about his contract, I'd sell him now and keep Barrenechea. Kamara has good value now, next summer its probably 15-20 million.

I wonder how much we’d actually make on a sale of Barrenechea?
We only have one year of amortisation completed and Portuguese teams are not awash with money. We’d surely be looking at break even type money and that’s not worth it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

If the likes of Kellyman are going for 20m (I know it was PSR switcheroo), then surely Barrenachea is worth something in the 20m - 25m range. His official purchase price was very low (6m - 8m?) so even with only 1 year of amortisation left, he should make a healthy profit.

That said, I would also rather keep him. If we could find a way to move on Barkley (loan to a promoted club?), then I feel Barrenachea should still get a decent amount of minutes between Europa League and the domestic cups. Then we could really see what he is like.

Marco Bizot signed who I assume is a replacement for Olsen.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,688 ✭✭✭✭CSF

And if you look at the picture in the announcement graphic, you’d be forgiven for thinking we’d signed Robin Olsen under a different name for PSR purposes.

Maybe people wanted more but not bad to get 15m for an extra in the Luiz deal that has never been part of our squad given our current situation.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,385 ✭✭✭Patser

    I don't know.

He's now an Argentine International, getting great reports about playing a position that we're currently well stacked in - but with Kamara dithering about his contract, and Barkley not getting any younger - we could really end up regretting let go

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭cgorzy

Is there a sell on clause? Manchester United got a decent sell on amount on the Carreras deal recently. Benfica a good club for a players value to increase and always willing to sell. What was his book value in the Luiz deal? Is it correct that the profit can be multiplied by 5 to get the head room for a new signing? But….he wasn’t in the UEFA squad list last season, so back to a previous question… does this transfer not count for the restriction where squad signings can’t be greater than incomings to our UEFA squad?

New jersey does nothing for me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,479 ✭✭✭OneColdHand

Agreed. New York is much more fun.

    (I'll get my coat).

We've signed a Pre Contract with a 19 year old from LASK. Modou Kéba Cissé.

A few places saying Rogers is Chelsea's top target for the summer. Hopefully he's not going anywhere, with Asensio gone he should be back in his oldest position. If he does go I assume we are looking at 60+ million profit and he just signed a new contract at the start of the season, so hopefully he is well tied up.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭cgorzy

I think I read before that Middlesbrough have a 20% sell on clause on the profit so would need to sell for about £90M to make a 60M profit. Hopefully he stays,I think there is already enough to do to work without Asensio and Rashford, I don’t think Roger’s is on crazy money and Villa should be backing themselves to have his value hold over the next season or more. Players should only be sold within the Premier League if the club considers them overpriced and overrated.

So… Incase anyone here didn't see it, it appears the Enzo Barrenchea deal was a bit more complicated than it first appeared.

a €3m loan fee and the two clubs have also agreed an option for Barrenechea to join the Portuguese club permanently for €12m, with Villa having a 30% sell-on clause limited to €10m.

Very quiet summer so far, I wonder if it is a case of one out and one in type of thing, could be a steady the ship type of season and then be able to go big next summer, of course that is risky as without european football the calibre of player you can attract drops drastically.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,385 ✭✭✭Patser

Some great news being announced that Kamara has signed a new, extended contract.

That makes the Barrenchea deal reasonable now.

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 23,130 Mod ✭✭✭✭Bounty Hunter

We put in a bid for an 18yr old French defender (Jadee Canvot) who plays for Toulouse.

I'd love if we could sign new players but…Kamara re-signing is huge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,698 ✭✭✭LeBash

If we weren't operating on 1 CB and half a midfield last year we would 100% have got CL. I dont think there is major transfers needed but some back up would definitely help.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 135 ✭✭cgorzy

Great news on Kamara, I wasn’t overly hopeful he’d sign having seen out the contract at Marseille. Hopefully no release clause.

Seeing some reports it is a 5yr deal for Kamara.

Expecting Malen to play more of an important role this year (especially in the cups) and Rodgers could flourish once more from the no.10 role with Asensio gone (though he technically hasn't signed for anyone yet). I would however still hope for one more attacking option given the loanees from the 2nd half of the season are gone.
