EU261 Compensation Ryanair

I hope the mods don't mind but I posted this the the Consumer Issues forum a month ago and didn't get any replies there so am reposting it here.

"In December 2022 our Ryanair flight ACE-DUB was delayed by approx 6 hours. The way they dealt with it was a shambles. When we arrived home I applied for compensation under EU261. Ryanair denied it straight away saying it was outside their control.

I put in a complaint with AESA (Spanish aviation as it was a flight from a Spanish airport). They eventually made a ruling in December 2024 that compensation should have been paid as it was not extraordinary circumstances. They said they sent their findings to Ryanair and I also contacted them with same.

I got an email from Ryanair in January saying they’re not forgetting about me, claim pending review. Emailed them in March to follow up and was told to wait. Nothing since.

Anyone any ideas how to proceed? Will they eventually pay or do I need to pester them? 31 months since the delay and 7 since AESA sent their findings."

Ryanair won't part with a cent unless you wring it out of them, hound them and you might even have to threaten legal action before and if they settle it.

They’re some shower. Raised another dispute last night and they replied saying they need more time to investigate. I informed them they’ve had the report for over 8 months at this stage and they just emailed back saying it was outside their control and compensation isn’t due. The same response they gave me back in 2022 and advised me to contact AESA if I wasn’t happy with their decision, which I did and they agreed with me that it wasn’t outside their control and compensation is due.

Time to file a small claims court case?

I think I might need to go down this route. They just keep replying with the same thing

“Please be advised that this case has already been thoroughly reviewed and resolved with the National Enforcement Body (NEB).

Following their investigation and Ryanair's detailed assessment, the conclusion remains that the delay was due to circumstances outside of our control.

As such, we are unable to offer compensation for this flight.”

I presume the “NEB” in this case is AESA. I don’t know how they’re saying after investigation it was outside their control when AESA said the complete opposite and compensation of €400 per passenger is due.

Small claims. I got a relatively trivial amount out of them, on principle, that route. They take it seriously and it's easy to do.
