So I should see a run from the DP to at least the nearest pole, if not all the way through the duct, before the apointment?

I was hoping this would be done after talking to me so I could tell them to use the phone line to pull the fibre in from the road…

Not always as people have mentioned they have had it all done on the installation date instead of two visits.

If it’s two visits, the first visit is just to get the fibre to the outside of the property and they might knock and let you know they are doing it.

My guess is unless you've checked your eircode and it has said progress and the build date has passed why would you check ... it would be too early otherwise.

My estimated date moved out again today. Was originally March to July, then July to Oct, now Oct to Dec.

    DPs on poles wires up.

Are they going on a lazy again or what?

I only had one visit scheduled.

Several weeks before that date, two guys showed up, stringing fibre from the DP on the road, across the neighbour's field and up to the gable of my house, following the path of the old copper phone line. They left a big coil of fibre hanging there.

I happened to be there that day, and they just said I could probably expect a call from Digiweb to re-arrange my installation date to an earlier slot.

Sure enough I got the call in a couple of days and had the installation visit a few days later.

I have wires on poles for around a month, no DP's.

My estimated date on the website is still showing as Jul - Dec 2026!! :O

Just seems odd that me and the neighbor would have 2 different experiences…
I was assuming that it would be the same contract company e.g Circet doing the work and approach it the same way.
    I guess I will find out tomorrow… Fingers crossed….

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭NotShero

Yes it will be the same contract company but just sometimes they encounter an issue in individual installations, like a blocked duct, that they wouldn't have been able to predict before physically coming out. Then sometimes if it's a bigger issue they'll have to get civils which would delay it considerably then.

If they haven't called yet and the installation date is tomorrow, then it looks like they are hoping for it to be only one visit as long as again the duct is clear etc.

Yeah, the eircode is fully connectable at this stage. I know I will have to just roll with the process, but trying to understand the likelyhood of a successful install when it appears no "prep" has been done from the DP to the house especially when a neighbor got an SMS saying his was delayed due to more work required without anyone visiting him. That would indicate they did prep and found something.
My install is tomorrow so I guess they might be along today to start…

    Here's hoping.
I know it took a bit to get the phoneline down the duct 10 years ago…. I'm hoping that they can just pull the fiber through using the old phone cable.

Well, They are there now doing the DP to house run.
I got a chance to chat to them so happy day.

    Edit:
Job done, approx 30m spare cable at the end of the duct ready for tomorrow's install. I now have 1 very jealous neighbor. 🤣

My eircode finally went into network build in progress some time this week, the overall map is still showing us as surveyed (assuming itll update sometime next week as usual). Finally a light at the end of the tunnel, no signs of anybody about my direction yet though so the jul-dec 26 dates are probably accurate.

Or in this case, light at the end of the fibre 😁

Well, today the lad turned up as arranged and all going well so far. He's still at it and we did have trouble pulling the fibre up through the wall cavity because it had been pumped and there was no conduit for the existing cables.

If I remember correctly, for Pure, I just need to configure my own router's WAN port to:
    DHCP
    VLAN 10

    Is that right?
The installer was mentioning he needed a modem to do some setup with credentials?

Dynamic IP and VLAN set to 10. Should do the trick. Priority set to 0 if need to enter a value.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭NotShero

You will be able to use DHCP/IPoE if it’s eir’s core network, if it’s BT it will need to be PPPoE afaik. VLAN ID 10 for both.

Actually come to think of it there was some KN bucks out working on ducts down the road from me a couple weeks ago. They had signs up saying something along the lines of "KN Working on behalf of OpenEIR" so I wrote it off at the time that they were working on the older Eir rural fiber network that stopped before reaching us.

Its hardly related to clearing out ducts etc for pulling the NBI gear up the road?

Yes it could be OpenEir "make ready" work in advance of the NBI rollout

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 541 ✭✭✭NotShero

Well @ArrBee is the installation finished, did ye get connected?

    Yip.
All good and done in the end.
I was down to the last phone cable to pull the fibre up the wall cavity and it was tough going. The pumped wall insulation seems to compress as you pull the cable through it making it near impossible.

There is a large excess of cable in the attic now which is a bit of a pain.

The installer unpacked the router to test the connection and prove he had done the install but it never connected to my network. I already had a port configured as a WAN with VLAN10, and it just worked.
I had requested to connect to OpenEIR and that,s what I ended up with.

It's amazing how quickly you get through data when it comes in faster. lol

I still have to see if my 1Gb SFP is holding my 1Gb connection back at all…

    Map update (31.07.25):

    https://nbi.ie/where-are-we-working/

Looks like all remaining DAs that were in survey completed are in network build now. Nearly there.

DPs on new poles around me now, albeit I don't see one particularly close to my house, and the condemned, fully disconnected pole that used to serve nearby houses (this house has never had a phone line) is still unreplaced.

The DP will be within 500m of your house, the roll of drop cable is 500m.

This label is from a roll of drop cable at a pole in front of a neighbouring house, one end the cable has been run underground to the gable end of the house, the DP is on the next pole over.

There's one within 500m, but its the other side of the road!

Our eircode went Ready_to_Connect earlier today, Tuesday 5th.

We had a provisional install date of Sept 5th during the pre-order stage, hopefully we get an earlier install date now that everything is ready to go.

Quick question for those with NBI already installed…

How hot should the ONT get? Today I checked with an IR thermometer and it said 40C but last night it felt hotter.
I guess it is a normal enough temp but I expected cooler for some reason.

Also, who knew that watching download progress would become a thing! 😂
