I have mine set to 65mm. I have always cut my grass high, it looks greener. Maybe I'll lower it a bit and see how it goes.

I have mine down at 30 as I have a very flat garden. I might have to raise it up a little as a tree root is now a little higher and the blades are catching it on occasion.

for me it’s 50. Any lower and I know from experience that it will burn in the heat. As @Comer1 says above, it looks greener

My mower kept getting stuck so as someone advised here I took off the front guard. It has been a huge improvement. I don't know if it is much less safer?

Thinking of getting these. This mower is not great on my lawn when it's wet. It keeps getting stuck with no obstacles. Has anyone else tried these?

Can anyone explain how to set the % on secondary areas ... l think my mower was coded in reverse. I have set my primary area at 25% and secondary area at 75% ... the mower spends 75% of its time in the primary....

Maybe l just have it backwards!!!!

    Hi Jim,

I've noticed my PMRDA 20-LiB2, which has been cutting the front lawn all season no problems is now leaving large patches of grass uncut.

Watching it - it looks like when it encounters some resistance (longer grass patch) it backs out and alters course just like an obstacle.

It has been updated recently too (now on 0.4.11), so I wonder if they have altered (reduced) the allowable current (and torque) of the cutting motor, I see you mentioned the over current error on 0.4.10 - not impossible they have been tweaking these limits.

Its a real pain now as it isn't fit for purpose on my lawn and I don't think we have any option to downgrade firmware.

Has yours updated to 0.4.11 and have you had any issues since?

I might swap out the battery on mine to see if there is any difference.

    John

I think there is a front guard on the mower that can be removed. It might solve your issue with the unmoved patches.

Yeah, removing the front guard makes a big difference

Thanks guys - yes I've had the bumper removed and blade guard cup replaced with a 3D print flat disc from day 1 with this mower. The issue I have now is a change in performance not due to physical bump obstacles but to thick grass and I assume the blade motor torque - this is just really from me watching it and test placement.

I tried an 8Ah battery and no difference - just doesn't like longer grass. I have another mower (the 500m2 version) that cuts straight through the same area no problems. This is the third season with these mowers (all have been replaced) but all have cut this area fine til now.

I intend to contact support to see if there has been anything changed in the firmware around the robot obstacle detect logic/ cutting motor current limits that would explain this issue.

Really I'm just wanting to know if others are experiencing similar issues since firmware update or if this is a one off problem with my mower that occurred by coincidence around the firmware update time.

Have the same issue. I was putting it down to the fast grass growth the last few weeks and just not having it cutting for long enough periods

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 69 ✭✭mcauleydjm

Good point, you might be right - it could just be some rapid growth, even though I have it cutting for 12hrs as per usual. I tried one of my replacement bots that that still had version 0.4.08 and it did the same thing. Not sure.

My 500m2 bot has given up the ghost now too with a 'motor stall' error (it wasn't cutting thick grass btw when this happened). It powers up, menu works OK then when you ask it to start it beeps like it should be starting to move but doesn't (nor even attempt to), then the 'Motor stall' message is displayed.

I thought the LHS wheel motor was pretty difficult to turn when powered off (compared to the RHS and other bots).

So I started swapping with parts from my 'keypad broken' 1000m2 model:

    1. LHS motor; same problem
    2. RHS motor; same problem
    3. Blade motor: same problem this was all motors swapped.

Nothing visually obviously popped on the control board, so going to need to investigate further.

Last attempt I did was to try the 500m2 keypad on the 1000m2 model, to see if I could get 1 functional from 2 broken.

    • Keypad does not display anything
    • Keys do seem to do something, you can hold the start to turn on, then when on hear beeps with button presses
    • Trying the app when powered on shows 'Eror' (yes not Error)

    So not much success.. yet.

    John

Is there a manual / video on how to break these down. I have one with dead screen, mower still functions and one with motor stall. Would like to try assemble one working with display

    Hi,

If you look at some of the early posts on this thread I posted up some info & pics when I opened my 1st broken one.

    Its not difficult; from memory:

    1. Remove blade disc (3x hex screws)
    2. Release/ remove green shell from the spring mounts
    3. Remove 14 screws from perimeter of upper section
    4. Remove 4 screws from the bottom surrounding the blade motor (outside of the adjustable blade mechanism on the lower body)
    5. Remove the blade height adjustment knob (pop the black inner section off to reveal screw)
    6. The body should come apart, be carful when opening as there will be some connections from upper keypad etc to main controller.

I had the cup guards and combs removed on mine so not sure if any of these need removed but it should be obvious when you get in there.

Anyone have any luck sharpening the blades or do you need to buy new ones when they get blunt and the grass looks beaten rather than cut ?

Tried to sharpen with a file, but they are quite hard…didn't bother trying with a disc in the angle grinder yet, but generally this is not a great method as the metal heats up and doesn't hold the edge for long.

I ended up buying blades on Amazon....they seem to stay sharper for longer

Does anyone know where to get a replacement power supply for a 1000m2 mower? The power supply stopped working after the input wires for the boundary cables got wet. I replaced the fuse on the plug, but it still isn't working.

Can you load firmware on them?

    Hi.

I recently had a breakdown on my Parkside PMRA20-Li B2.
On the display of the robot, it said "Loop Signal Lost".

    First thing I did:
    1) I had some leftover loopwire, so I replaced the loopwire (that is burried underground) by a 10m piece of loopwire (above ground).
    2) opened up the battery compartment of the robot, disconnected the battery for couple of minutes, reconnected the battery and restarted the robot.

Both still generated the "Loop Signal Lost", although the wire was obviously not broken, and the robot was reset.

    Next:
    3) I then measured the voltage from the power adaptor to the charging station. Should be 22V, measured 21,8V, so ok.

Nevertheless, there were indications that there was something wrong with the charging station, and that it did not emit the normal loop wire signal. So I contacted the LIDL / Grizzly service line, mentioned the breakdown and that the unit was still under warranty. And they send me a new charging station.

Connected the charging station, and … robot is fully functional again.

Now that I had my robot up and running again, I wanted to find out what had caused the breakdown.

So I opened up the old, unplugged charging station, and … discovered that at the bottom of the charging station, there is a hole through which the power cable enters, but which is not sealed/wide open. Ants had discovered the opening and built a nest in the charging station. They even made it all the way up to the PCB board, which probably caused it to overheat or shortcircuit…

Or how a small design flaw (not sealing the hole where the power cable enters) leads to early failure of the charging station circuit board …

So recommendation: when you do a seasonal inspection of your Parkside robotmower, check for ants in the base station … :-)

Contact Lidl Service center or -if unit is out of warranty- you can contact the Grizzly service line:
Parts you can find on their website:

    Hope this helps.

Hi all! It has been my second summer with Parkside robot. Recently it has developed a problem where it randomly stops and there is a message "Emergency stop" on screen. Has anyone experienced something like this? Any fixes to do?

    Thanks!

My mower is 2 years old, I haven't the receipt. How do I get it repaired or exchanged?

It stopped working recently. Blank screen, no beeps or anything. I replaced the battery and no change.

Hello all. I ended up here as I had a problem with my Parkside robot. I thought I should share my experience.

I'm afraid I have no surprise revelation, just that I have had the loop detection problem and it has been on and off for a while ( it's now early October, problem started in late summer)Most recent was this morning. I did not check the cable, as it was ok yesterday, I did re-insert the battery, even though it was 100%, but it made no difference. I tried several times, pressing various combos of buttons, power on, power off, then gave up , had lunch and decided to bring the mower into the garage and dismantle it (thanks for the how-tos) but decided to give it one more try. Of course it started working and is still working now after nearly an hour. I can only suspect moisture which dried out. It was still in the shade, in its 'garage' ( which is half of a leaky water butt and does the job) so next time 🤞 it happens, as I'm sure it will, I will place it in sunshine or a warm place before trying again. It could also be something to do with an ageing battery, I suppose, as it's been used almost every day for over 2 years without issue. Out of guarantee. I should buy a new battery.

That's all, good luck to all.

I typed a lengthy comment but it has disappeared. grrr. Here is the short version.

I ended up on here as my Parkside robot developed the loop detection and random spinning problems over recent months

I have no magic revelation, only that I tried various things then gave up to have lunch.

When I tried one more time , it worked and is still working.

I can only suspect moisture which dried out, although it was still in the shade, in its garage (which is half of a leaky water butt and does the job). Next time, I will place it in a warm place for a while before trying again.

It could also be an ageing battery I suppose,as it has been operating for over 2 years. I did remove and re-insert it, but it made no difference at the time.

    Good luck to all.

Great tip this. I got the right motor anomaly error to discover one of the front casters had fallen off. Rather than replace the disintegrated clip, I drilled through the axel and put a pin in it. Much better job than the clip. It was very easy to drill.

When do people generally bring the mower in for the winter?

My mower recently began stalling in the middle of mowing for now apparent reason, and switching off. when i restarted it would mow again for a while and then cut out……Anyway long story short it turns out it was the battery that was shot.

The battery has lasted two years of mowing. is this usual? good or bad?

    thanks
