Virgin Media Settings for Siro

    Hi all.

We have switched from Sky to Virgin 1GB FTTH via Siro. Siro has been active for 3 years. And Virgin is available via Siro to our property. ONT is in the hallway, and we have always used our own ORBI Mesh Network for a series of reasons.

One of the true benefits historically of Siro via the ONT and my own system is I just need to tweak some settings via orbilogin.net and I'm good to go. But I cannot find these settings anywhere and Virgin say such a thing is impossible when I call them.

    Does anyone have this info?

Apologies if this answer is available but have not been able to find it.

Bumping this if anyone can chime in.

Spoke with Virgin support who hadn’t a clue what I was asking for. They insist the flow must be the ONT to their modem that they sent out and then that can connect to my Orbi mesh. They say I cannot bypass their modem.

I'd suggest checking the settings in the VM router as I don't think there's too many on here using VM via SIRO to be able help you

You'd need to check username, password, VLAN ID, whether connection is Static IP, DHCP or PPOE

The VM hub that you get is the ONT so you have to use it.

If you look at the wiring of the hub, the fiber cable goes into it rather than a standalone ONT device.

Is that the same on SIRO? I thought they only did that on their new fibre network i.e. an "integrated" router and ONT setup

    Probably VLAN10 setting

VLAN10 is set after being recommended. But our settings via the Orbi interface still point to skydsl.

With SIRI we have an ONT on the wall so there is no technical need for installation of a second if you can avoid it.

Did you manage to figure this out? Also got lucky by being able to get Siro through Virgin but can't figure out the settings. Not working for me through the Asus router even when setting VLAN to 10. It worked for someone on the Virgin Forums and it's definitely possible as we have a dedicated ONT

PPPoE as a type of connection is being used by vodafone and sky.
Have you tried setting your 3rd party router to dhcp + vlan10 + mac address from router provided by vm?

    Vlan10 might be not necessary.

Vodafone or Sky customer support will also tell you that you need to use their routers 🤡 but thats not a requirement.

    Hello,

    Sorry for bringing this back.

We've been with Siro for years, using Vodafone, Sky, Digiweb, etc and just switched to Virgin Media 2GB through SIRO.

Similarly we've always been able to use our own mesh network with wired backhaul after configuration to the network provider.

We've not needed to use any providers equipment in all this time.

Would anyone know the Virgin Media settings to use please?

DHCP/IPoE and VLAN ID 10. Then you need to clone the MAC address of the Hub 5x, on the label, to your own router.

Just switched to VM SIRO and trying to use my own router (tp link archer ax5400) with these settings but no joy. DHCP is enabled (I didn't change any settings attached to this) and VLAN ID is 10, VLAN priority 0 (have tried different priority numbers range 1-7 but no joy).

Have power cycled the MTU also.

Anyone know what I might be doing wrong here?

MAC Address from Hub5x also cloned.

The connection type needs to be “Dynamic IP” (DHCP/IPoE) under Internet/WAN, you might have it set to PPPoE from your previous ISP.

Also, do you have “802.1Q Tag for Internet” under VLAN settings ticked?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,404 ✭✭✭SortingYouOut

It's set to Dynamic IP and the 802.1Q option is checked. The MAC address from the VM router sticker has been added to the cloning option but when I check network status on the tp link I get a "LAN MAC" which differs from the one I've put in. Is the LAN MAC separate, I don't have an option to change this.

LAN MAC is probably on the LAN (local) side of the router. You can ignore that for this purpose, the WAN MAC is the one that should be cloned.

No that wouldn't be the issue as long as it's cloned under Internet/WAN settings. Under Network Status are you getting an IP address or is it blank?

Maybe try going to IPv6 and selecting "Dynamic IP (SLAAC/DHCPv6)" there and maybe try cloning the MAC address of the Hub 5x there also.
