Ok, thanks, that might be the best option so.

One of the other things is for the majority of the year when we're in surplus mode there are times when we're generating more than we're allowed export, so I could potentially charge the battery then, discharge at 25c a kwh and recharge at night 5c.

Are there any other options with super cheap rate at night other than Energia (limited) or Pinergey (not)?

Have you looked at www.energypal.ie that site has all the tarriffs and you can upload your HDF data and it will work out the best tariff for you.

Energia (EV Smart Drive 24%) have another plan that similar to the Pinenergy but the added bonus the low rate is for 4 hours…if you have a big battery this might be better. Disadavantage is the import rate increases from 6.74cent to 7.75cent if you go over 1000kWh 2 months (which you will but its not a massive increase). But if you have a very big battery then the extra hour might pay off. Their export rate is less as well at 20cent not the worst, but less than Pinergy which are way above everybody else anyway.

    Look at energypal.ie

What make are your batteries, that 20% bottom setting is not good given your usage

Also, don't forget that Pinergy are the only supplier that will allow you take your credits out as cash.

That was the deal clincher for me.

If you leave they'll give it back in cash.

Personally I'd just let the credit increase until the day you'll eventually leave and then bam your energy supplier has covered the cost of a Carribbean cruise 😆

Gotta do the sums for yourself but the difference in night rate between them is about 2c. If you have a 12kVA MIC, like I do, this alone is a saving of 365 days * 3 hours * 15kW * €0.02 = €329 per year

And 3 hours gives about 20kWh into the car battery after losses, with a 16kWh / 100km vehicle(s), that is 46k km per year. If you do considerably more, you might need 4h. Also if you have a heatpump as your main heating system, you might need 4h. With a powerful inverter like say a Sunsynk 8.8kW, you could easily get 20kWh into the home battery too, but this wouldn't be enough on a cold day and it makes more financial sense to sell to the grid rather than use the electricity for heating

You can do that with Pinergy too.
And their buying rate is lower.
And their selling rate is higher.
Plus the option of taking money out if needed.

    Cons are…
    Only a 3 hour window.
    37c/kWh outside of window.

+Forced onto level pay too, with an initial high monthly but once you get it settled (after 3 months) it's fine

Do 2 names need to be on the bill or just 2 names on account for tax relief for 2?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,042 ✭✭✭Soarer

    Yeah, forgot that.

Saying there's only 1 person/adult in the house when registering should set that to the minimum amount. Plus, the excess can be taken out in 3 months' time anyway.

On the account AFAIK and people here have more than 2 names on it if they qualify so you can add more if possible.

100% all names on the bill for multiple tax exemptions. There's a thread here with all the relevant information.

The below is a general 'signature' and not part of any post:

FYI, if you move to a 'smart' meter electricity plan, you CAN'T move back to a non-smart plan.

You don't have to take a 'smart' meter if you don't want one, opt-out is available.

Buy drinks in 3L or bigger plastic bottles or glass bottles or cartons to avoid the DRS fee.

Public transport user? If you're sick of phantom ghost services on the 'official' RTI sources, check bustimes.org for actual 'real' RTI, if it's on their map it actually exists.

Yep confirmed when I went to check with pinergy also. Had names added initially to my account but have since added it to the bill

My NC6 form was processed by ESBn on 11th July, and export metering shows on my account since then.

Just got my first Electric Ireland bill since then. But no export credits. Their terms say I should be getting it.

Anyone with any experience of Electric Ireland?

    ……

On receipt of the NC6 form, ESB Networks will set up your export account.

Electric Ireland will receive your export data from ESB Networks, and you will then receive a microgeneration credit on each bill thereafter in line with your billing cycle.
