Leavitt, who gushes like Old Faithful, is under the impression its the Noble Prize.

I don't click on idiot videos.

I asked you to provide a link to where you were looking for boycotts on American products when Biden was in office.

I'd assume that the ridiculous response means you never did mention boycotts back then.

It sounds to me like you are another unintelligent maga supporter.

I didn't think it was possible for anyone to be worse than that McEnany weapon from the first 4 years, but Leavitt has managed to take the award, I think. Just about.

so trump made over 4000 transactions to Epsteins accounts totalling $1.1B. Russian banks with dubious links.

There is also the IgNobel Prize. I wonder would that satisfy the Donald? Winners included: Dan Quayle 1991: Education , "consumer of time and occupier of space" for demonstrating, better than anyone else, the need for science education.. Also, 2021, Economics: : Pavlo Blavatskyy, of Montpellier Business School, for discovering that the obesity of a country's politicians may be a good indicator of that country's corruption perception.

Methinks the current administration should really scoop the pool over the next year or so. 😎

With how he has been played by Canada, Japan, Israel and the EU, he probably would fall for it.

Sounds like the Russians were getting American tech secrets through the Israelis using the two gimps as proxies. It would be glorious if this not only uncovered a bunch of paedos but also brought to light the poisonous one sided relationship between Israel and the US.

It seems that Trump would have the U.S. and the world believe he is a very trusting soul, that he didn't know Epstein and Maxwell got more than one of the Mar-A-Lago female staff to leave their customer entertainment employment there to work instead for Epstein, and that he didn't have any idea or suspicion as to why Epstein might have done it, even though as a good friend of Epstein, he has admitted that he knew what Epstein liked. God forbid that Epstein was running a version of "Salon Kitty" in New York for international clients.

In fairness I would say at this point IMHO the US has gone beyond being a flawed democracy and is closer to being a full on authoritarian state almost by the very day.

To be fair as mentioned by others Stalin, Hitler and Mussolini were also nominated but obviously didn't get it so he fits in pretty well with that trio when it comes to nobel peace prize nominations.

Feels more like the old Venetian Republic to me where the elites ran it in their interests and the people were just fit to be workers, soldiers and sailors.

This seems to be more of a rumor and not sure if it has much credibility TBH.

Stephen Colbert had Harris on and said

“I just wanna remind everyone. You warned everyone about the future under our current president. You said:

    - He will prosecute his political enemies

    - He will cut Medicaid/Medicare

    - He will ignore court orders

    - He will alienate our allies

    - He will give massive tax cuts to the rich

And I know you’re not here to say I told you so. But would you like to?”

Any American who claims that they didn't vote for Trump because of what's happening now, is willfully ignorant.

Yeah I saw a short video of some congressman or senator giving a speech about it on the House/Senate floor, but I wouldn't be sure it's not AI, especially given there's been f*ck all mention of it anywhere. If it's real, it may also be old and possibly already debunked.

Trump has gone full Tariff mad to-day. Some details here (the heading on the link is a bit misleading).

    https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jul/31/trump-extends-deadline-tariff-deal-mexico

Apart from the new bullying of Canada over Palestine, just 2 observations: Why hit Bangladesh of all places with 20%?; why is Brazil at 10% despite his threats over Bolsonaro? TACO again?

Bangladesh, presumably is either one of two things...

    1. Using their original dumb crude calc, chances are there is a massive trade deficit vs Bangladesh, because its a small poor country that sends a lot of cheap produce to America and doesnt buy an awful lot in
    2. Its some ploy to get India onside and signed up to a deal by hitting one of their neighbours who they're not super fond of

    Or just a giant distraction

Canada need a trade agreement with somebody else. Surely the EU can do something to help them out.

Not the latter. The Indians are fonder of Bangladesh than they are of Pakistan, but Bangladesh has been hit with the higher tariff. Plus, India itself has been hit with a 25% tariff, higher than both of them — higher, indeed, than any of its neighbours except Myanmar.

Trump's pal Bukele abolished term limits in El Salvador. It'll be interesting to see his reply if anyone asks him about it.

Canada is a commodity economy like Australia and both avoided recessions after 2008 because of China's infrastructure demand. As is demand for their commodities continues to grow in Asia so tariff induced reductions in cross border trade south will be more than made up for by demand from the rest of the world.

All Trump's tariffs do is act as obstacles for anyone trading with the USA.

“All Trump's tariffs do is act as obstacles for anyone trading with the USA.”

Probably not as simple as that but it certainly encourages countries to seek new trading relationships which is not a bad thing at all - but given Trumps latest “rant” about penalising countries for recognising Palestine, we can see that this initial round of “tariffs” are only a start in terms of trying to control the world agenda and what countries do /don’t do - quite simply, if America doesn’t like your foreign policies , it doesn’t matter if you’re a respected nation or a dictatorship, America will try and force you to their way of thinking and acting - the country is unhinged at this stage and trade should be avoided entirely where at all possible - let them stew

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,902 ✭✭✭threeball

Its option 1. No one in this administration has the brains to be able to play that political game. A punch to the face is as nuanced as it gets.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,599 ✭✭✭Economics101

THere is one already: CETA (Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement). Its implementation had been stalled by numerous objections from member states and their citizens/lobbyists.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comprehensive_Economic_and_Trade_Agreement

THe Irish objection was from a Green Party activist 🤢, and caused a major constitutional headache before it was overcome.

Aside from all the yoyoing of individual tariff rates there is still a 10% baseline tariff now set on all imports from all countries, which effectively is an extra tax on US consumers and businesses.

There may be waivers for critical products, but ultimately that 10% is a trade friction that wasn't there before January and certainly may affect trade flows, especially when new blocs like the RCEP converge to eliminate 90% of existing tariff barriers between members.

The RCEP come into existence in response to Trump pulling out of the TPP.

It;s one of the most ambitious trade deals the EU has ever negotiated, and has been largely in force, on a provisional basis, since 2017. Full implementation still awaits ratification by France, where the Senate has expressed concerns on environmental and sovereignty aspects of the deal.

Hopefully this latest situation with the US will bring a renewed focus and impetus to “get things done”

Its a perfect illustration really of actually completing a trade agreement, and highlights Trumps "deal" with the EU for what it is, lip service thatll take years to actually settle
