So, i got the lawnmaster ocumow 18 mx last week. Its my first experience of a robomower and overall its pretty good.
Very simple to setup - it found satellites quickly and locates the docking/charging station well. The optical sensor is good, spots the non-lawn areas with no issue. The mowing time is around 2.5hrs, charges in around 2hrs.

I hand mowed our lawns first, and cordoned off the areas that werent obviously 'not lawn'. After a bit of hit & miss, due mostly to me not blocking off all areas it worked away no problem.
We have 3 lawns (~400m2, ~250m2 & ~200m2) and all are unconnected, hence why i got this particular mower, for the smaller lawns i used the drop & mow function with the charger on the big lawn. D&M just means that the mower works away until the battery goes flat.. that worked fine too.

The issue that im seeing is that the random cutting function suits the two smaler lawns fine but i dont believe will be suitable for the large lawn, even with several mows each day. That method doesnt seem to be effective on large lawns unless the mower has a very large battery.

Im disappointed as its really the big lawn that I wanted this robomower solution for. I think its a really good solution for smaller lawns though.

So, im deciding between sending it back or maybe offering for sale… havent decided for sure yet.

My Luba2 came with EU plug, so using adapter in the interim. But after some haggling with support they are sending me UK plug chargers.

did you yours state it will be EU plug when you bought it? or wasnt specified?

330x so far absolutely delighted with it..much more efficient machine, the h3000e used to take 14 hours to cut my lawn, the 330x takes less than 7..a lot nicer cut on grass with the 6 blade disc..only have it a few days and have not seen how it performs in rain and wet grass

I've had a wired Worx Landroid L2000 for the past 3 years.

The mower is grand, albeit frustratingly stupid and requires manual intervention far more often than I had expected/would really want.

But I've also changed and will continue to change my garden a lot, requiring multiple adjustments to the boundary. This has meant lots of connections in the wire and lots of fails that take hours to find - this has been my biggest issue with it.

So I'm looking to upgrade to either a Luba 2 (which appears very good but an expensive €3k) or a Kress KR133E (seems slightly less impressive but currently on sale for €1,621).

I have a couple questions for those with experience of either/both.

Do both Kress and the Luba allow for adjustments made to the boundary be made easily as I make changes to the garden?

In terms of no-go zones-can they be fairly small/precise? Like could I make a no go zone around each individual leg of a trampoline or individual slender trees about a metre apart?

Have people found much manual intervention needed on rough/steep gardens or hazards like children's toys etc?

    Cheers

Hi @Dazed2020 I can only speak for the Luba, yes it is easy to adjust a boundary or change a no-go zone. The ability to easily map and remap (without moving wires or having to get the supplier back in) was a key feature that I wanted.

My smallest no-go area I have is around a pole for a clothes line. You basically drive the mower around the obstacle as tight as what the software will recognise. I'm not sure exactly how small an area will be recognised, but the diameter of mine is ~1m. It might be possible to get it a bit tighter. However, since I have to take out the strimmer anyway, I wasn't too bothered about trying to get it tighter.

I haven't had any issue with hazards, but I follow a check and remove approach before I send her out. However, if it encounters a hazard that it can't deal with, it will just stop and send a message. If you have small items that could be left on the lawn and not necessarily easy to see (i.e. tennis ball for the dog) then count them. If you can see all, say 5, items on the tarmac then you are good to go.

My lawn is flat so I can't comment regarding steep slopes.

Aren't Kress just a Landroid in a fancy frock?

OT but I have had a Landroid M700 sitting in a box in the garage for 3 years and just set it up a couple of weeks ago.

Yes It can be as dumb as a bag of spanners at times getting stuck when a 90deg turn the OTHER way would solve the problem but anyway.

My lawn is uneven, kinda hilly with depressions and so on that I need to fix. BUT I'm amazed with the result. After one week the thing is perfect. I need to get a tonne of topsoil to fill the hollows and adjust the boundary wire or break out the spade in places and also add a ton more spikes to keep the wire out of the range of the blades. But it's brilliant!

I was gonna actually sell it unused and buy a cheap old ride on but I'll just hire a guy to do it once a year in Feb or March but I'm a total convert.

Can't even imagine what the 4wd and RTK yokes are like if this is the Worx with tons of complaints and mods to fix the issues is like, at least for me.

    Cheers for this.

Yes, I believe Kress pretty much the same. In my case it would be going from a wired model to wire-free. Changing boundary wire (and the subsequent connection breaks) has been my biggest frustration and the reason I'm looking to upgrade. When it works, it's very good (I wouldn't say great) but it gets stuck/slips out of bounds far too often.

I'd absolutely recommend it for fairly simple gardens where no changes to the wire should be expected. But complexity is not this things friend

Are there any robot lawnmower repair shops in the country?

Got a Flymo 1200 R that has just stopped working, the blue light has come on, I've checked the boundary wire and its fine, checked and changed the connectors and created a mini test loop, but still no success. The unit seems to be charging fine. Any thoughts or recommendations? Thanks,

have a 430X on its 7th season, a issue has arisen think could be battery related. One morning last week it was completely dead open the hatch and the screen was blank. Left it a while and turned it off and on a few times and it started going again. Now when i try to put it mowing the mower lifted alarm keeps going off and i have to imput the pin to stop it, this happens every time so have knock it off again . As i said its on its 7th season and i think they say the battery should last 4/5 years so maybe this is the problem, looking at the app it has 9,478 hrs runtime and 3315 charging cycles. Anyone have similar issue or any ideas ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,345 ✭✭✭KCross

That would be indicative of a battery issue alright.

Could also be a faulty sensor but based on what you've said it could be the battery. Did you notice that it was spending less time out per session?

There is a hidden menu which will tell you what charge level the batteries are going to. You press bottom right and bottom left keypad buttons together for a few secs and the menu will appear and you should be able to figure out the menu structure and find the values. Put the mower on charge beforehand, obviously, to see what it gets to when at 100%.

My own battery needed replacing around that timeframe too.

Does anyone here use a Luba on steep banks? I have a Husqvarna 435x which does the business but is having some reliability issues after having had it for a few years.

Are there good service/repair options for the Luba? How good is the availability of spare parts? Are parts expensive?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 675 ✭✭✭k mac

Pressed the bottom right and bottom left keypad buttons together and i was able to go into a menu showing the sensor status which says yes after the Lifted L which indicates some issue with the left sensor, took over the cover and fiddled around but no joy, think i might have to bring it somewhere.

As i said the mower is on its 7th season and up to last year had absolutely no issues but fair few things started to crop up now with it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,345 ✭✭✭KCross

i was able to go into a menu showing the sensor status which says yes after the Lifted L which indicates some issue with the left sensor,

Just to clarify, does it show Yes and then No depending on whether you lift that corner of the mower?

Or are you saying it is showing Yes all the time even when the mower isnt lifted? If that, then yes the sensor needs replacing. Should be easy enough to replace yourself. All these parts are plug 'n play.

Back in action after a new wheel and a clean up. Just in time too, as the grass is growing fast after the recent rain.

Sorry it says yes all the time even when the mower is not lifted.

After some further haggling, Mammotion are also sending a free garage for the Luba 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,345 ✭✭✭KCross

ok, that’s easy then. That sensor needs replacing.

Gents, I thought I had to replace my husqa 430x robot mower battery as it was 7 years old due to No Loop Signal errors on the mower. So I went to a local tool hire shop and purchased the battery and transformer kit for 340 or so.

It turned out the old battery is still ok and the issue was due to a ECO mode I had activated in the settings. I never opened the battery or anything I bought..

I brought it in for refund and I was refused it as there are mower parts and they cannot be replace despite the items being exactly the same way as I had bought them only 10 days previous.

Is this the norm or have others different experiences for such items?

    Anyone need a battery? I know a guy :-)

I just received my Luba2, came with a European plug though there was no mention of that anywhere I could see when ordering or on the description (I did try to look).

Did/will Mammotion send you an Irish(UK) plug? A travel adaptor for the European plug isn't exactly going to be suitable for outdoors

Yes, after some annoying back and forth, they are sending me a 3 pin plug version of the chargers. Not here yet. And yeah firstly they offered me an adapter, which is not good for outdoors.
