On the lookout for a bean to cup coffee machine for new kitchen soon. Any heads up appreciated 👏

If you have a local Currys, I often see Sage machines in their clearance section for upwards of 50% off. You won't beat that for both price and quality.

    wrong thread

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,370 ✭✭✭NATLOR

Just be aware the sage machines aren't strictly bean to cup there is a fair but of work to do ( grind size, tamping, correct extraction etc) if that's your thing then they are the best. If you want a fully automatic get a delonghi they are bullet proof and check across the European Amazon sites they can be considerably cheaper than the UK or Ireland

Yeah, that's worth bearing in mind alright!

Not as "plug and play" as your standard bean-to-cup but do produce a better quality cup of coffee if that's your thing.

Yeah, actually ordered the wireless one first and then the other one after a few hours as I was undecided, both on the way to Sligo no problems!

anybody buy the eero max 7 routers that were on offer around time day. How are you getting on?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 10,104 ✭✭✭✭mik_da_man

I'd be interested in how they are.

I cheaped out on a Mercusys system that was on offer and I'm finding it crap tbh, my sky router with a TP Link extender was a better job.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,646 ✭✭✭JMcL

On the assumption you're using them wirelessly and not connected to each other by cable, it's probably worth spending a few hours trying to figure out why the Mercusys is crap first, as you may end up forking out a heap of money just to end up with the same underlying issues. These could range from thick walls/structural steel impeding the signal for backhaul between nodes (they'll typically try to use 5GHz for backhaul as this is fastest - it's also is less good at going through stuff however). Other issues might be interference for other WiFi networks - changing the channels that the units use may improve this. You should be able to use the Mercusys app to see if there's poor signal for any of the nodes and change the settings.

One other option might be to use powerline adapters between the nodes. It wouldn't be my first goto, but I have used it successfully in the past (we're in an old 3 story house with meter thick rubble walls and a good smattering of steel RSJs in the extension so coverage was a nightmare)

    Thanks for the detailed reply.

I have them running wireless and have switched off all other networks. I did try the optimise in the app and it improved range slightly.

Our house was built in '07, standard wooden flooring and for example one node is pretty much directly above the base one, one floor up and reports poor signal. Range outside of the house even with a node at a window is much worse.

I'll have a look at the power line options, but right now I've switched back to the Sky Router and one TP Link booster and it's better range and more stable, which is surprising.

I'm running a 3 node mercusys system the last 2 years in a 4 bed bungalow, and it's been great. I have 2 in front rooms on either end of the house and one in a back room in the middle. I get signal out back in the steel shed. I had to optimise is through the app a couple of times in the first week, but it's not been touched since.

Good feedback thanks and they do get good reviews.

I'll give them another go and move them around a bit using the powerline too.

Its just TP-Link stuff in a cheaper plastic case with less support.

Wake me up when it's all over.

If you are using a fritzbox as given by a few companies, their mesh setup is pretty decent. You can pick up 2nd hand 7530 routers for as little as €30 in CEX and make a system quite cheaply

Just did this today with 2 x 7530 AX. 48 euro from CEX. Bit dearer but gives wi-fi 6 speeds. Super easy. Note: AX models must be cabled together as repeaters.

Keans are giving an extra 20% off all Ninja products. I got their Ninja Luxe Café Premier Espresso Machine for just over €400. The reviews seem pretty decent for a. machine in that price range.

In case anyone is wondering about the Gilette blades in the no-chat thread (actually about anything really) if an item is both sold by and dispatched by Amazon and not a 3rd party seller, the chances of it being a knock-off are slim to none and in the extremely unlikely event that you get counterfeit goods directly from Amazon (again, not a 3rd party seller) then there will be zero problem getting a full refund.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,732 ✭✭✭The Continental Op

Unfortunately Amazon have sold plenty of knock-offs under their own name. Hopefully the practice has changed but what they used to do was aggregate stock. So if an item was sold by Amazon and also by other sellers through Amazon then all the stock was lumped together as one item. Amazon could be selling their own stock or stock belonging to another seller. If the a seller was selling knock-offs then you get could get one of their knock-offs sold and dispatched by Amazon.

Wake me up when it's all over.

Perfect timing on the Gilette blades. I was only thinking this morning that I need to keep a lookout for new ones. Thanks OP.

No luck for me. It says that I'm not eligible cos I've previously purchased on their app.
