He might get 1 like Aru did but we have seen plenty of riders like Porte, Landa, Lopez, Schleck who never went all the way in the grand tours.

I bet he never wins one.

I agree about the over reaction. Calm down loss!

2 years ago Jimbo won all 3 GTs and people were worrying about boring dominance. 2 years ago. So let’s start worrying in a couple of years time eh?

You don’t even need to go that far back. Jorgensen won the last 2 Paris Nice and he was Jumbo’s 4th or 5th strongest man in the Tour. There’s a world of difference between the one week and three week tours

    (Unless you’re Pogacar)

You can keep race radios but limit the broadcast to safety messages or only organisers can send messages.

I dunno. Seemed like a perfectly level headed discussion we were having?

You guys better stay away from the Current Affairs section if you think we need calming down 😂 Anyway… I'm having a coffee now so can't promise I won't be full of beans in the next hour or so…

Anyone watching (even if you're just a fan of an excess of syllables) the Tour-de-France-Femmes-avec-Zwift featuring Kasia-Niewiadoma-Phinney from Canyon-Sram-Zonda-Crypto?!

Couple of boring enough stages but there was a class solo victory by 41 year old(!!) Garcia, Lara Gillespie's fantastic 3rd in the sprint and then the last half of yesterday's stage was a great watch.

As with the men's racing, if you're commentary or commentator-sensitive there can be some hard-pill-swallowing. But it's amazing to have 3 Irish girls competing.

Coverage seems sporadic, can't figure out when they're showering a full stage or not.

Having said that, I have it on in the background whenever it's on, and like you said, some great moments

Watched TV coverage of the last two stages ands it’s been great racing, much improved standard over the last few editions. A team mate of Lara won today in stunning fashion.

Didnt realise Gillespie's team was down to just 4 riders, they are doing great.

Didn't realise that either, they have been very prominent over the last few stages. So far the stages probably haven't been tough enough as it's basically the bonus seconds which is dividing the top few riders, Kim LeCourt is hoovering up all the bonus seconds! Hopefully tomorrow's stage will shake things up.

I'd like to see Vollering win it this year after going so close last year when her teammates deserted her when she fell, which ultimately cost her the race. She doesn't seem popular, she fall again this year, but, at least her new teammates helped her this year, so hopefully she's Ok

I don’t think it’s her personally. The Dutch women just seem to hate each other.

There definitely does seem to be needle between the Dutch women. I thought it was appalling last year that none of her teammates helped her even though she was in yellow, definitely wouldn't see the yellow Jersey stranded like that in the men's race.

The Director's comments after where a bit farcical however - complaining that she wasn't allowed up to the front of the peleton. It is not her God-given right. The crash was entirely her own fault for being where she was.

Last year was just weird though, not sure I've ever seen anything like that.

They’ve lost out on Olympic gold medals too because they refuse to work for each other

We did get one of the sporting moments of the year last year though with that Alp d’Huez stage

I’m fighting the urge to make a sweeping statement about the Dutch and team sports. It’s very very hard 😂

She just won the intermediate sprint too. She was worried about the time cut yesterday so must be feeling better

Where was she all week, she should be leading the race based on the last 2 stages, how did she lose so much time in the early stages or was that planned? Looks like the GC race is going to be decided by bonus seconds, which is disappointing, Kim Le Court did fantastic to get back, but, the rest should really have drove home their advantage when they gapped her. There should really be an ITT to shake up the GC race!

She doesn’t win either day if she’s a GC threat IMO. Not to take anything away from here but they wouldn’t have allowed the gaps to go if she was a threat

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

I understand that, but, how did she lose so much time initially, she would definitely have been able to stay with the GC contenders based on how she and they performed over the last 2 days. She should definitely be able to challenge in the current format, as I said previously an ITT would make a huge difference to the GC race.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

different types of stages. There are great climbers who can’t do the “classics” styles days that suit the current leader.

Add in working for Longo Borginho initially, and no real need to try and keep up, and it’s not unusual to see really

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,565 ✭✭✭Girly Gal

Well she has shown now that if she concentrated on GC, she could contend, the minutes lost in the earlier stages are much easier to rectify without losing her climbing ability. With the Tour de Femmes being quite short, gaining time in the mountains stages would go along way to winning overall.

As we have seen so far the mountain stages haven't really had a huge effect on GC, the bonus seconds are having a much bigger impact, which really shouldn't be the case. I hope someone gets a gap over the next two stages on the road rather than bonus points deciding it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,174 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

but she would may be able to contend with the GC group. She started the last climb today with nearly 4 minutes so the GC group gained 3 minutes on her.

Again, I’m not trying to denigrate her at all. It’s just that context matters. Winning 2 stages is incredible, but that doesn’t mean she is one of the best in the world (yet).

It stands to reason the GC group would close the gap, she was on her own, and had been in the lead group all day, plus yesterday's effort, so the gap obviously would come down. Over the 2 stages, she gained over 2 minutes on the GC group, alot of that was her own work. The GC group would have been protected for most of the last 2 stages until the domestiques were gone. I take your point, but, give a little credit where it's due.
