Also seems unfair to be asking people to move seats if they have paid for it in advance

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,308 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

The vast majority of people do not pay extra to preselect seats, some obviously do. So there are generally plenty of seats to choose from if you’re early. In fairness to Aer Lingus they allow free seat selection when online check in opens (I think the day before departure)

It’s first come first serve and it’s free inside this window (day before departure) a very fair system compared to other airlines.

You just have to remember and be organised

But are you suggesting they should keep seats together for passengers who haven’t checked in? So essentially keeping seats for people who might not even show up? Seems unfair to keep those seats from being available to the people who do check in/show up in good time.
They may well keep a certain amount of seats blocked but perhaps they were already assigned by the time you got to check in.

I shows up 2.5 hours before my flight so I arrived in time to airport.

What has paying got to do with it. Their rules state under 12 must sit with a parent/guardian and they don’t state you need to check in beforehand to make sure you sit together or you to pay for this either. If it was they’d be advising during the booking process.

In the booking process you state how many under 12’s you have. So not like you rock up on the day and say I’ve an under 12 let’s move everyone. All they do is offload it onto the cabin crew to sort out

Free seat selection is available I think 30 hours prior to departure when online check in opens.

Most people check in online and take advantage of the free seat selection .

As I said they don’t necessarily block off seats for 12 year olds etc or anyone else who’s booked, the point of check in be it online or at the desk is to ascertain who’s travelling on the flight and seat them as conveniently as can be done on a first come first serve basis.

My point being if you are traveling with an under 12, forget to check in and then are causing hassle on the flight, next time most will just pay for the seat. (imo)

is there a great outdoors or a north face or something similar airside in T1 or T2?

Hi all. I am travelling with Ryanair tomorrow. I have checked in already and have my boarding pass.

Do I need to print off my boarding pass or is it OK to just have it on my phone? Concerned about a statement on the Ryanair portal which says: "Boarding passes must be printed for use"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1 TheSpiddalKid

Depends where you're flying to, a list of places that need to be printed off is on the Ryanair website.

    https://help.ryanair.com/hc/en-us/sections/12488861427857-Boarding-Pass

Which airports do not accept Ryanair's mobile boarding passes?

We accept mobile boarding passes on flights from the majority of airports on our network.
However unfortunately, some airports cannot accept mobile boarding passes yet, these airports are:

    Turkey (except Dalaman airport)
    Morocco

Also the following airport does not accept mobile boarding passes:

Tirana (when travelling to the UK only)

*Customers traveling from these airports must check in online and print out a paper boarding pass for their flight(s).

What's the breakfast like in the Martello lounge? Considering booking it for next week, I'd just like a nice breakfast not sure if I'd get that in the lounge or better off elsewhere in the airport

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭pureza

It’s a pretty decent hotel buffet type spread

Peacefull compared to outside and unlike the other lounges there now has a barista making proper coffee

Super apron views with rows of seats along the windows and plenty sofa seats

It can get busy prior to the Middle East flights whose business passengers get complimentary access

Have they removed the barista coffee from the T1 lounge?

How common are stair problems on Ryanair flights?

Flying out of Dublin a few days ago and my gate was changed because the last plane hadn't departed due to problems with the stairs.

Another flight a few days later and I was delayed by nearly an hour because of problems with the stairs.

Mentioned it to a mate who came home on Monday and he said he was delayed too because of a problem with stairs.

Not sure where to ask this..

My wife hates flying, the only way she will go is an Airbus( won't do Boeing)

For European flights it means we are stuck with Aer Lingus, but I saw Lauda use Airbus, which means we can potentially book ryanair to give us other flight times and destinations

is there any way I can find where Lauda fly from Dublin? I have checked and can't find anything. Rather than picking every individual flight on Ryanair and seeing which ones say Lauda.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,597 ✭✭✭VG31

Even if the flight is meant to be operated by Lauda, there's no guarantee it will be. Ryanair could easily change the aircraft type. Vienna is often operated by Lauda, but checking Flightradar it's a mix of Ryanair and Lauda. If your wife will not get on a Boeing I wouldn't risk it.

There are lots of other airlines that fly to Dublin which don't use Boeing aircraft on short haul. British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Swiss, Iberia, TAP, SAS, Finnair, Aegean. Other than Ryanair, it's only KLM, Norwegian and Icelandair that use Boeing.

I flew to Zadar, Croatia recently on a Lauda, I wasn't flying straight home so not sure if they fly from Zadar to Dublin.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,264 ✭✭✭fitzparker

Thanks for that, is there an easy searchable way to find out where these fly direct to from Dublin?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 4,308 Mod ✭✭✭✭Locker10a

Ryanair group operates a fairly dynamic operation meaning and Airbus or a Boeing could pop up almost anywhere on the entire network for various operational reasons.

The routes operated by the other airlines will have to be checked on their own websites really, perhaps the Dublin Airport website or even wiki page will help you figure out what airlines operate what routes

Bit of a niche question, but looking to bring some club orange over to the US soon and don't fancy having it in my checked luggage. Anyone know off hand if I can buy it after US preclearence?

Or alternatively if I could buy it after security and bring it through preclearence?

There's a WH Smith after pre clearance and I'm 90% sure I got rock shandy there, so they should have club orange.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭user060916

Any reason you don't want it in checked luggage?

It should be fine in check

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,705 ✭✭✭Nolimits

I'd just be slightly wary of the change in pressure making them burst

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭user060916

I've brought beers, wines, spirits, Coke etc in the checked bag plenty of times without issue. Glass bottles, cans and plastic bottles.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,861 ✭✭✭✭L1011

On the flip side, I've had a can burst in checked luggage and leak beyond the double ziplock bag it was in. A hoody took the brunt of it, at least.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,042 ✭✭✭Captain_Crash

If it’ll burst in the hold it’ll burst in the cabin. The pressure is the same. Wrap it in a bag and then a hoodie or towel as @L1011 says and you’ll be grand.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 287 ✭✭user060916

Either you're extremely unlucky or I'm extremely lucky - not sure which!

Normally have a minimum of 48 cans of Guinness when I travel east bound, never once had any issues

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,224 ✭✭✭pureza

That’s probably more to do with the handling of the luggage to or from the plane than anything to do with pressure while flying

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,849 ✭✭✭✭Dodge

They literally sell cans of drink on 99% of flights. It’s a fluke if one pops

Edit : or it’s because of something else happening to the can as above

yes quite a while ago, coinciding roughly with the time BA moved to T2

You can still get Barista made coffee in the Martello, formerly known as the East lounge
