Staying there this weekend. What’s it like?

What are you looking for opinion on?

The golf course is special, one of, if not the best parkland in the country.

The hotel, I stayed in years ago with my wofe and remember being very underwhelmed. Went there expecting 5-star, but it didn't reach that, 4 star would have been generous. Place was over-run with kids. Literally over-run...they were sprinting up and down corridors most of the time.

Your hotel description is exactly what I’ve heard before 😂.

It was the course, for a very high handicapper, would it still be enjoyable. Sounds so.

It'll be an enjoyable course for anyone to play.

Index 1 will definitely test your mettle. Needs a good tee shot and nerves of steel to take on the green with your second.

    Lovely par 3s too.

A great setting and great course. You'll enjoy it

Not to hijack the thread, but the topic of good value golf. I just played The Heritage over the weekend for €40 on a Golf Now offer. Gorgeous sunny evening. Course in absolute top class condition too.

I'm a big fan of DG, but for some reason I always find MJ extremely underwhelming when I play it. Yes it has the few feature holes that are lovely, but some of the holes are unbelievably bog standard.

I do really like the practice and clubhouse facilities at MJ however.

You're not the only one. Have played MJ a couple of times in the last few years and have come away vaguely dissatisfied. As you say, some bog standard holes that are eminently forgettable with a smattering of signature holes and the rest mildly engaging.

Does MJ still have really bouncy greens?

I played it last summer, and it was impossible to stop or spin the ball. It wasn't that it was rock hard or drought conditions. Just so strange that the ball would visibly kick off the surface. Otherwise, I couldn't fault the conditions or facilities.

Same here re MJ, Played a few weeks ago and was very underwhelmed, outside of few nice par 3s it was pretty featureless. Would play DG every day of the week ahead of it.

I'd agree with Fix & Space having been lucky enough to having played DG a fair few times the new owners really have taken the conditioning to next level. For me it's the best Parkland in the country definitely top 5 anyway. And as much as I don't like spending €100+ on a Rd. The price is a steal. Bunclody is a must play and great valve u won't be disappointed & a course u will remember
