Romano also reported that Sesko prefers United but who knows.

Portugese media also claiming we've made an official bid of £35m for Hjulmand. Not sure where we'd be pulling all this cash from...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,649 ✭✭✭Cotts72

Well ornstein alleged we went in for ekiteke so there's money there ...sell Antony for 50m and I think that gets you a hjulmand. Similar to anto I think a garnacho fee brings money to supplement the ST/CM deal. At the end of the day none of us have access to the financials but I think going off reports we can buy both with the fees incoming

Where did you see the Portuguese reports? The plus with hjulmand is he knows the system so wouldn't have to be brought in ASAP if we were to go for a striker first

Wouldn't say it would be agent talk, hopefully not given the relationship between Vivell and the player.

Hjulmand would be a good signing for the midfield if you're looking at cheaper options. Wherever the money is coming from I'd love for the club to try get Jorrel Hato instead of Chelsea. Would be a great long term option given his ability to play LB and CB.

Possibly expecting sales so pushing ahead with signings?

Hjulmand report is from calciomercato, then reported by MEN.

The only defensive signing that I could see is doing this summer would potentially be the Helland chap as one for the future. I think defensively we are stacked well ( Shaw and Martinez debatable) next summer I'd expect to go in for a CB with Maguire and Shaw potentially gone. Inacio at sporting wouldn't be an expensive option and can play the left side role also

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,120 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Yeah you obviously wouldn't use the word "stacked" but compared to the rest of the team there are definitely more options in defence already that are at least passable.

ST, CM and GK are our 3 most important positions now IMO.
Wing backs coming in then after.

If we start the season without a new striker we are in for a long season. That has to be done as a priority IMO.
Buying Cunha, Mbeumo etc.. and not pairing them up with a striker who can help them would be classic Utd over the last 12 years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,343 ✭✭✭FrankN1

Sesko, Cunha, Mbeumo, Cheap GK ( any decent experienced one on loan even ), and CM would be a very solid window. Next year GK, 2 CM, LB and maybe one attacker.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,056 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Sesko would be a massive gamble. Just don't see it happening.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,120 ✭✭✭IncognitoMan

Yeah I think we'll be active up until the deadline and I think we will need to be as sales (hopefully) open more funds up. But it will get trickier (and more expensive) the later in the window it goes.

I've said it here before and obviously we need players to make it happen but getting into the race for top 5/6 isn't the pie in the sky idea many seem to think it is.

The teams fighting it out at that level aren't hyper consistent like the title challengers. They will win about 18/19/20 games over the season. We were less than useless last season and still had 11 wins.

I'd be very disappointed if RA can't get them to win 8/9 more games across the season when we have no midweek games in Europe. We would be looking at winning a touch over half our games to be in that race.

Surely this isn't too much to ask…

Yeah I'd prefer Watkins. You know what you're getting even if it could be 3 or 4 years only. Unless injuries slow him down. Sesko could end up being another Hojlund. Big money spent on a young CF hoping they come good.

If Villa were open to a deal I'd say the club might prefer Sesko given his age and resale value. Amorim supposedly prefers Watkins because he's PL proven and experienced.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 427 ✭✭kyleman

Watkins could certainly do a job for us at the moment but still not a top tier striker.

If they were around the same price I would go for Sesko all day long.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,649 ✭✭✭Cotts72

Would deffo prefer sesko over Watkins. Watkins 30 in December and isn't top tier as mentioned. At the fee quoted there's be feck all resale value and would be back in the market in 2 yrs time.

We have been monitored Sesko for years so if united did make the move I'd trust they've the homework done and are confident in his ability. No more so than Vivel

I dont see Villa selling us both Martinez and Watkins and Martinez would be a better upgrade.

Might we be moving for Pope? Newcastle moving for Ramsdale likely displaces Pope.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,056 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Rather Watkins and then pass the baton to Chido in a few years

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,540 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

Watins (and Gueye as another young project).
    Donnoruma for gk.
Find some midfielder when we finally sell Sancho, Antony and Garnacho

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 200 ✭✭IBrows89

I just saw this and thought the exact same thing. Not much nonsense about him, hopefully not many mistakes and would be on cheaper wages I'd imagine. I'd say his weakness is playing with the ball at his feet but our with our formation and the back three our keepers don't need that as much and end up hoofing long most the time anyway.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,780 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

We shouldn't care about the resale value of Watkins though. He's averaged 15 premier league goals a season. Should be buying a CF because you want a proven goal scorer not because you think he might sell for a profit in a few years.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,780 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Didn't they already sign another young 18 year old that's gone on loan and then you've got Chido. Don't see them bringing in another project striker for a couple of years.

I'd love Donnarumma but feel we're only being mentioned as bargaining tactics though PSG are supposedly close to signing a new keeper. Though think Donnarumma would likely end up at Madrid as a long term replacement for Courtois.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 48,540 ✭✭✭✭Mitch Connor

generally agree, but when you pretty much know you are going to want to replace him as first choice in maybe 2 summers, then imo the resale value (and his squad cost as a second choice player if you don't sell) do become legitimate concerns.

I know F all about Sesko, can anyone give me a quick run down on him?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,780 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

I still wouldn't see resale in that instance because you're going to need good options off the bench especially if the new long term number one you bring in has no PL experience or is in his early 20s.

His wages though I'd agree on because the club is trying to better manage that. Supposedly he's on £130K a week and you'd figure he'd want close to £200K to leave Villa.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,780 ✭✭✭johnnyryan89

Should definitely be going out on loan. Can't see him getting much game time especially with the reduced fixtures this year with no Europe.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,201 ✭✭✭Iseedeadpixels

Seen this and laughed, also it's just a bit of humour before I get the usual angry reply calling me a tinfoil hat wearer.

Newcastle: We would like to know the terms for Benjamin Sesko?

    Leipzig: £60m + £10m add ons.

Man Utd: We would like to know the terms for Benjamin Sesko?

    Leipzig: £80m + £20m add ons + Bryan Mbeumo.

Cam see Uniteds counter offer, 10m Now, 20 m when we make the CL and 150m if you please take Sancho!

Vitek has signed a new four year contract and joins Bristol City on loan for the season.

Striker movement, good to see. According to Laurie Whitwell:

“Manchester United have narrowed down their striker search to two primary names in Ollie Watkins and Benjamin Sesko.”

“No decision has yet been made on which target to advance but United are in contact on both Watkins and Sesko to establish the potential costs of each deal. A move for Nicolas Jackson, a player under consideration, has been ruled out due to Chelsea’s demands.”

”United are in the evaluation stage and there is internal acceptance that negotiations might take time, with Aston Villa and RB Leipzig each putting significant price tags on their respective players. United need to make sales to raise funds, with Alejandro Garnacho and Antony on the market for valuations that would cover the cost of a major arrival while the departure of players such as Jadon Sancho would also add to the funds available.

United’s pursuit of a new striker also keeps Rasmus Hojlund’s future in doubt and, while Inter’s capture of Parma’s Ange-Yoan Bonny means the Serie A side are no longer pursuing his signature, several other clubs are observing the situation.”

He is also saying that United would try to do a deal for Watkins for £40-45m or Sesko - potentially £69-78m

Last 2 lines of that above post confuse me.

Are they saying that we'd be looking for £40-45m for Hojlund? Or is the choice £40-45m for Watkins vs £69-78m for Sesko?

If that figure is for Hojlund, that's cloud cuckoo land. I know he'd likely fare better in Italy but the lad is coming off a poor season followed by a diabolical one.

We'd be lucky to get £30m. We'd actually probably be better to loan him Italy to prove his worth and then sell him. A good season in Serie A could bring his value back up to that £45m range.
