It's dull but we have daylight from roughly 5.30 to 21.30, 16 hours, and it's not raining too much.

When you get out and do something it's very enjoyable. You'll still get a good colour!

Too much oul doom and gloom talk does nothing for anybody, it's bad for your mental health and does no good. You can't get a massive windscreen wiper and clear the skies. Negative thinking makes everything worse.

Fcuk it we're not in the Ukraine or Gaza.

Still good signs for HP moving up over us early August.

No one is saying we aren't getting out and about in it but the dark evenings are disappointing, I love sitting out on a summers evening. This week lights on at 6pm most evenings as I said more like end of August.

We were out all day on Friday & today and enjoyed it, even with lack of sunshine.

However its a pain in the you know what having to drag a hoddie for everyone with you in case cold, but then you also need a light raincoat for everyone aswell in middle of summer, oh and dont forget the suncream, hats and sunglasses aswell just in case🤯

Thank god I still have a buggy for putting it all in, I dread when 3 year old is too grown up fot it!

It's cloudy here but the lights don't go on until 9pm?!

If we can ignore Iceland and it's cooler temperature record than Irelands, I think most other European countries have achieved 37C or more. We have by far the coolest and most cloudy summers in Europe with the exception again of Iceland, Faroe Islands.

In July 2022 we had the hottest upper air temperatures I've ever seen in Ireland and nope we couldn't beat the 33.3C while every other country affected by the same heat plume got 40C+, which makes me think beating the temperature record from the 1800s is almost impossible.

While I get people get pissed off with the weather in this country me included, I think we should be thankful for small mercies we don't suffer the big heatwaves they get on the continent and that will only get worse as the climate Warms further. Europe is the fastest warming continent on the planet. As much as cloudy dull weather is annoying I'll take that any day over 40c temperatures etc. Look at Turkey atm for example wildfires and temperatures hitting a new Turkish record of 50.5c the other day. Perhaps in the yrs to come we will realise how lucky we are living in our boring temperate climate. Ideally I would like a more continental climate with more defined seasons and sunshine ( even if I'm not mad about summer heat). But the climate of Europe is changing and not for the better imo.

July 2022 failed to break the record because there was a shower in the afternoon, which brought temperatures down. If it stayed sunny, then the record would've likely been broken.

I don't disagree with your sentiment, but plenty of people suffer with SAD from the endless grey skies and find it cathartic to have a moan, it can definitely get a bit much with negativity on here at times but at the end of the day it's no harm

Soooo we are not in a war zone therefore stop moaning about the weather. Seriously? Baffling.

Thick cloud. 14C. No bombs. Grand so.

I don’t think it’s a bad thing that we don’t get 37C. I’m liking this summer so far. Could be a bit more sunshine but it’s by far not the worst summer we have had.

I got loads done out the back and front yesterday. Light drizzle at times. By the time I finished at 7pm there was 2 quick big downpours afterwards. Still sweating I was as I was flying around. The place looks neat, the fresh rain after cutting the hedges and grass was nice, also doing the cutting in at the paths. Looking out it was worth it. Glad I was with the weather yesterday. Now if its BBQ and drinks I like splitting sunshine and heat. But yesterday was my kind of weather for doing sh1t.

Yes, total first world problems. If it was raining all the time we'd hear 'all I want is some dry weather just 18-21c'. When you have that we have 'we're not getting any sun'. When we get sun we get 'very disappointing, it took until 11am for the cloud to burn off, it's only 21c here, not the 26c Met Eireann mentioned'.

On the hotter days 'we never broke the all time record temperature, its really disappointing because the synoptics were perfect'. 'I couldn't work outside, it's too hot to work, 24-26c is my preferred temperature range'.

It follows through from weather to every aspect of Irish life 'the state of the country, Michael Collins would be spinning in his grave' BS. We have problems, like every country, but overall we are doing very well. Especially compared to previous Irish generations. We're a nation who moan our lives away, and I make no apologies for saying.

This is a typical Irish summer, what we've had since the end of the Little Ice Age in 1850. Before that summers were a little cooler. What do people expect?! It's the equivalent of moaning because Laois didn't win the Leinster football title again. Weather isn't something you can order on a menu.

That was a very pleasant weekend. Loads of outdoor time and activities. 35k steps on Saturday which is a lot for me. I don't recall any rain although we were promised showers, especially yesterday. Today is dry and warm but very little sun as yet.

    8 stations showing 20C or 21C at 4pm.

An old mate of mine has a big farm in Co. Meath, so I generally take my cue on the summer quality index from him! He mainly farms livestock but also some oil seed rape and veggies on land he rotates.

He had concerns over the long dry spell and then suffered some flooding in the veggie drills from the heavy rainfall a week ago, but overall he's happy, the grass growth is healthy again for grazing and silage, and his crops will be in good shape for harvest, unless a massive deluge arrives between now and the end of August.

A nice soft August with a couple of 25C+ days thrown in for the beach and barbecues would be just the ticket.

Really beautiful day in Cork City - gone a bit overcast now but still very warm. Was out by Marina and new park earlier and it was just gorgeous - what a great job they have done there; then sat outside Natural Foods bakery and had a hot chocolate and it was like being away, plenty of people about. I think our summer has been more than acceptable this year tbh - for Ireland, I think the most we can ask for is that it be mostly dry and not too windy!

Cracking day here in Laois, pleasantly warm, sun breaking through frequently and just finished wrapping silage. Drawing them in and if I finish by 7.30pm ish I'll get a 2hr cycle in or a good S&C session. I'll be 50 next Spring and I'm as strong and fit as I ever was, maybe going a little better!

Crazy that Finland has had 2 weeks of 30ºc but they have a better heat sorce especially if it's a southerly wind , I'm not surprised their record is 37ºc , ours will be beaten eventually but we just don't know when

Goway you're only a young fella girl ?

I think our climate is perfect for aging gracefully

Not too hot not too cold mostly

Bit more sun and blue maybe but have Vit D supplements and off we go 😁🤞🙏

16° here most of the day on the west coast, despite being pleasent enough out, the dew was still soaking on the grass at 3pm, air totally saturated.

Raining now. We had the best of the weather in April and May but it always seems to balance out in the end, not really catching much of a break from the westerly flow on the west coast this summer and no end in sight.

Nights lately have been mild /warm I don't know when it fell below 12ºc which is good tonight will be 16ºc for me with light rain at times , back garden has been inundated with frogs 🐸 lately I don't mind them but it's when you get jump scares from them I hate haha nearly jumped out of my skin a few times and that's this month alone

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,165 ✭✭✭✭sryanbruen

It's been a very mild month for nights. I think some stations locally are on course for near record-breaking high minimum temps. For example, Cork Airport's min this month was 9.9C on the 2nd/3rd. This is equal to its highest July min on record in 2019.

Good man (woman). Great satisfaction bringing in the last one.

I spent the day clipping briars under the electric fence, mowing the lawns and bringing sticks into the shed for chainsawing in the morning if it's wet.

    Thanks! Man here.

You'll have a great pair of arms from clipping under the electric fence. 25-30 years ago rolling up barbed wire on a stake was a serious workout for the arms!

We had a fair bit of wet land and when fencing couldn't bring a tractor to parts. Carrying 5 or 6 stakes 500m or so used be heavy going!

This year has been good for getting fodder in. A good few opportunities.

Ireland aside from Iceland is also the only country in Europe with a large swathe of chilly waters to our south which really doesn't help us at all to get some real heat.

Sitting out the back in a T shirt and shorts underneath the patio umbrella listening to the rain in SCD.

    Lovely.

Just thinking back 40 years ago to 1985. At around 10pm, 3 days post the thunderstorms, 28 July, our electricity came back, a Sunday evening.

We were hoping it would be back for the Sunday Game and Dublin v Laois Leinster Football Final analysis. No such luck! The late Enda Colleran was rounding up his analysis. I was 9.

We had mowed hay on 22 July and we didn't get to bale it until Tuesday 10th September! We got 40 square bales off 8 acres, just fit for litter that winter.

We've had some equally bad summers, but that one always stays with me. September was a lovely warm month.
