This is great, it won't stay away but still…

I like this circuit a hell of a lot more than the traditional one.

He is certainly going for it.

I can't understand why any commentators are pretending the sprinters might win this.

He’s 100% going to be involved in the sprint.

I think he tries to go on the last climb on a breakaway. Still several better sprinters in that group.

Cmon Wout.... just for ould times' sake. This is as good as a world Champs finale

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 86 ✭✭Torrey

Do they go up the climb again?

  • Moderators, Science, Health & Environment Moderators Posts: 9,184 Mod ✭✭✭✭mewso

Yep up the climb one last time. Conditions make it harder for Pog to go full blast on it though imo. So I would be putting my money on WVA at this stage.

    once more.

I don't understand how anyone can dislike Pogacar when he is going full bore for this with the GC locked and he is only risking a crash. Just cyclismo.

I think we can call the Montmartre route a success?

    A stunning last stage

Delighted for WVA. It's been a long road back from his injuries but a stage in two consecutive grand tours and this one is so big. Awesome.

Fantastic, but should not have been neutralised

I get that view, though in the circumstances it 100% helped the stage. Was much more entertaining with no GC on the line. A Visma chain keeping Jonas on Tadej's wheel would have ruined the fun.

So, so, so much better than the procession. Hope they keep it. This year of all years the sprinters deserve nothing. Would love to see a GC race come down to a competitive final stage and great to see Pogacar really go for it when he's looked so off it for ten days.

Happy for WvA. If you can distance Pog you definitely deserve the stage.

Great last stage and see WVA take the win. Hopefully they’ll keep it or at least alternate with the traditional sprint.

What a final stage. Right there folks we saw the difference between Pog and Vingo, one happy to suck a wheel to secure 2nd place on GC, and one who just wants to race. The smile on Pogs face at the end told how much he enjoyed that, everyone working to help the break and everyman for himself.

Happy for Wout. No complaints about the GC and thanks to Ben for giving us something to shout for. The one dissappointment being Eddie's early exit when looking in good form. See ye all for the Vuelta although if Pog doesn't go and Jonas does then it will probably be a procession unfortunately.

For me, the neutralisation summed up this year’s race. Kind of embarrassing that Vingo just rolled in. 2nd on GC and can’t be arsed racing.
If you can lose the Tour on the final day in a TT, you should be fighting for GC on a stage like that.

Just watching the replays of the finish and while it was a great stage what a terrible setup at the line. Nobody there really apart from the plebs being kept on the far side of the road. The VIPs presumably preferring to get out of the rain.

Love watching the race but know very little about the sport so 2 questions please:

    1. What does 'neutralising the stage' mean?
    2. Why was there hardly anyone at the finish line when there large crowds elsewhere throughout the city?

    Thanks.

    1. Means that you are only racing to see who the stage winner is but time gaps between riders don't count for GC.

    2. It's a mix of one side of the track being reserved for VIP and ticket holders and also the finish can be a poor place to watch the race on a day like today because the result is decided. The final hill is where the race is won and where the crowd go.

    1. The timings for the General Classification are frozen - essentially you can race for the stage win alone but it doesn't mean anything for the overall Tour
    2. Weird organisation, no good reason. More concerned with having cameras etc set up then having fans in the area.
