There's no doubt that for people who follow the inner machinations of wrestling, he will leave a legacy that is - shall we way - complicated, but there's forever to discuss that. For a lot of people, he was just Hulk Hogan, a real life comic book superhero who would come out to 'Real American' flex his muscles and beat the bad guy, and people loved it. Yeah, people got tired of it eventually, but chances are that if you were a kid through the mid 80s to early 90s, this guy was a part of what you remember fondly about it.

Unless you're really bad like, say, Jeffrey Epstein, I think everyone deserves those few days after their death to just remember the good.

Steve jobs treated staff poorly and delayed 9 months of medical treatment for pancreatic cancer to try a vegan diet and acupuncture.

Mozart lived in debt and often begged friends for money.

Nietzsche died in obscurity, likely from syphilis that was contracted in a brothel, and only saw his work sell a few hundred copies in his lifetime.

Martin Luther King Jr had extramarital affairs with dozens of women, even as he led the civil rights movement.

Isaac Newton spent 30 years of his life writing about the pseudo science of alchemy, which was hidden for years by his heirs because they were too embarrassed to publish it.

I'm saddened to read about the hate Hogan is getting online on this day.

    Yes, he used racist slurs.

    Yes, he lied continuously.

    Yes, he supported Trump.

Yes, he had endless legal dramas.

But if history can hold space for complicated legacies like those above, maybe there’s room for Hulkamania too.

Anyway, thank God all of us don't have every mistake we've ever made recorded, replayed, and judged forever. Must be nice to live such a flawless life. 😊

    RIP Terry Bollea

Kevin Nash Jake The Snake and Kurt Angle all at Northern Ireland Comic Con in September I bet all three will have some epic stories on Hulk Hogan.

no lads like that poster and also the wrestling podcasters who wouldn't have jobs as literally watching wrestling now if not for Hulk in this woke era won't allow a simple thanks for the childhood memories 20 years ago. to be jumping in with comments a few hours after the persons death says it all.

interesting especially as Ozzy Osbourne tried to murder his wife but was all glowing but you'd feel you can't even say thanks to Hulk who gave us wrestling fans a lot more in our early years.

Steve Jobs yes treated staff is bad the other his life

    Mozart why is that complicated

Nietzsche so what dies in obscurity

No problem with Iassac Newton just because he has a look at pseudo science especially at the time he was alive

Hogan was great for wrestling but should have been put on retirement long again and after the next few weeks the mans many horrible life should be mentioned

I edited your post there @patob to get the link working and deleted the duplicate. If you replace the 'X' with 'Twitter' in the URL it will embed the tweet. The joys of Vanilla.

The irony of that twitter user being a massive racist has to be intentional right?

It's no Austin pop…And that's the bottom line

A shot every time he talks about the Russo incident at The Bash

    Dead within the hour

Rick Derringer (who wrote and sang Hogans theme) died a few weeks ago too.

a piece of my childhood passed away yesterday with the news that Hulk has gone.

Whatever about his latter indiscretions, he is the reason we are all professional wrestling fans. Without him, the business would never have taken the world by storm back in the early 80s and become what it is today.

So many memories of him growing up, I was so invested in the storylines, a few of my earliest memories was Earthquake squashing him and then being stretchered out of the arena, i literally thought he was dead. The Mega Powers joining forces and the breakup over Miss Elizabeth, the Ultimate Warrior match, i was too young to see the Andre match but I have watched it numerous times over the years, when they had a rematch a year later on free TV, there was 33millions viewers!

And who cant forget the best heel turn in history ( yes, F*ck off Cena) when he joined the NWO. Iconic run for a few years.

Yes he had his views and treated people poorly, lied and supports Trump, but he gave me some of the best memories of my youth.. when life was so simple back then!

    RIP Hulk.

Death? That doesn't work for me brother!

Jimmy Hart and Eric Bischoff would of been pretty close to him

Will there be some sort of tribute tonight on Smackdown

Really doesn't feel real, we'll never hear 'Real American' again

I wonder what the reception would be if they did a big tribute for him.

Looking at the last time he was brought out and was resoundingly booed by the audience, wouldn't surprise me if some people didn't react well to a tribute to a righfully disgraced icon.

The Rumble in the Jungle of my childhood. One of those rare moments watching a "sport" when you knew it was gonna be an all time classic when watching it "live".

    Depends

People who say he's disgraced will ignore Austin's domestic abuse episode.

Bowie fans who say his underage "activities" were for "his art" will throw the kitchen sink at Jackson for his alleged "activities"

Liverpool fans will say United were only successful because of dealings with the FA and spending vast amounts of money will ignore how they themselves have transfer fee records and got many dubious a referee decision last season.

You yourself, were in an Oasis thread, throwing shade at fans of the band spending fortunes on tickets and merchandise, yet you travel all over the place regularly to see Bruce Springsteen regardless of the price.

    In short, people are hypocrites

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,233 ✭✭✭✭The Nal

So no, hes not disgraced. A bad mistake around the time he was a mess. And suicidal.

FYI the only issue I had with Oasis was people buying ridiculous merch. And was said mainly in jest.

FYI #2 - Austin had multiple domestic abuse episodes.

To you he’s not disgraced, to many more he’s a known racist.

Honestly, I can't say I'll ever really respect him at this point. No doubt he had a massive impact on the business, but his racist comments, awful treatment of others over his career, and support of Trump means I have only contempt for him as a character and person.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,385 ✭✭✭✭briany

It's not that what you're saying isn't true, but did he not also do good things throughout his life also? Was it all one-way traffic? Does the bad completely negate and overrule the positive?

  • Moderators, Computer Games Moderators, Music Moderators, Regional Midlands Moderators Posts: 24,163 Mod ✭✭✭✭Angron

When what he's very visibly done the last few years has been negative, yes. That's not even a question.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,385 ✭✭✭✭briany

You can take it however you want, but the wider consensus in the IWC is that his legacy will be complicated. In the broader public, his memory will be largely positive.

Well no, you are a WUM. Again, I remember you in the U2 thread, ridiculing people for going to multiple nights in 2018, whilst you travel all across Europe to Springsteen. To the point, if he farted and put it on eBay, you would bid for it. As I said, we're all hypocrites.

I remember you calling Jackson a nonce over his alleged crimes. But you'll praise the absolute **** out of Bowie and whoever else for doing the same thing.

And for what it's worth, I still love Austin like you love Hogan

Hence my point, we're all massive hypocrites.

    "He/She were scum but...."
