I’m sure the Inster interior is top class but my point is that it’s all relative. The current Skoda Superb interior would be up there with premium brands like BMW/Audi etc. In the same way, the Ioniq 5 is well finished but for similar money, an Enyaq has a more premium interior. The tech and equipment levels however are much better than Skoda.

Thanks, that wasn't how it looked to me. I wonder if the 'driver only' impact on the general temperature also impacted the windscreen. I'll keep an eye out.

Well, if a 57k Hyundai feels cheaper than your current car, you may have to look at the brands you mentioned. Hyundai is more about being a better BEV, not a better luxury car. I guess.

Over 4 weeks further delay I was told today, this car better not be a dud. Ordered first week in March, initial delivery was May so 3 months delayed now for Orange.

Yes got that last week and that it was "in transit". I asked if that meant it just left Korea, based on other people's experience that a VIN meant about a month or two away so I decided to query that hoping for the best... Guess it's true in my case

What are the monthly repayments for the 49KW elegance model? I can only find the basic 42KW figures

fortunately I’ve not had such issues (I’ve always had ‘driver only’ on by default) but maybe it’s wetter/more humid in your neck of the woods?

bear in mind that this setting is just a feature - if it’s causing misting problems just switch it off? (maybe the economy gain is minimal?)

wow, I don’t have your patience for that!
I found the spec I wanted in AutoTrader (£5k discount ‘pre-reg) and drove it home a few days later 😊
But but… we’re getting new EV car subsidies too, here in the UK, and I guess that will change everything - maybe ‘pre-reg’ discounts will disappear? or need to be much greater? And Hyundai deals will probably vanish (0% PCP finance over 3 years plus £1,500 off list)

    Guess it’s swings + roundabouts 🤷🏻‍♂️

Is there any maximum or minimum spec for a portable charger to be ready just in case the 12v battery runs down? I'm looking at the Noco chargers, but they've a dazzing range of options.

There should be no need for that, the HV battery will continuously top up the 12v

Isn't a fairly regular experience of EV owners to find their 12v battery run down?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,358 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

Only with certain marques on older circuit designs.

The brands that moved to 16v lithium batteries have integrated low-volt charging circuits that make this issue a thing of the past.

Just some older ones, check the Inster manual to confirm

I don't believe Hyundai or Kia have great form in this area, no.

4 years in an Ioniq 28 and it's never failed to start.

Did get a new 12 volt last year because the warning for (12 volt) battery charged while parked was coming on every time.

The Ioniq has a feature where it periodically checks the charge of the 12 volt battery even when car is turned off.

And will charge the 12 volt if needed using the main high voltage.

    Surely Inster does the same.

As far as I know, most newer EVs have a system that keeps the 12V battery topped up from the main HV battery. That said, from what I’ve seen, this setup isn’t always super reliable—especially on Hyundai and Kia models. Sometimes you still end up having to charge the 12V manually or even replace it.

So I dropped into the dealer today, apparently my Inster is in Cork, so all being well I'll have it in the next week or 2

oh good, they come in at a few hundred and then delivered around to dealers. There is a day or so to strip off plastic wraps or valeting as they call it. The battery will be low and and another chunk of time to top it up. I took my with uncharged battery as I could see a delay with garage having only two chargers and probably a Q for same.

Seen an Inster on the road for the first time while in our own Inster. Gave a wave as we passed by each other. I don't think they noticed 🙈

Almost a month in with it and very happy with the decision. It's a joy to drive and has immediately become the primary car. Very little negative to say but I am still getting used to / figuring out the speed limit and cruise control feature. Cruise control appears to automatically adapt to speed signs (but not always). Speed limit requires to hold up/down for 2 seconds to jump to the new limit. I find it maybe overly sensitive when passing a slip road off a dual carriageway and it starts beeping at me that I'm doing 100 on a 50km/hr road. I like the notifications on speed (keeps me in the limits) but I do find it overly sensitive like that. Also I would prefer if was set up so that 1) it gave a 3-4 second delay before beeping at me, and 2) gave a few km leeway on that… e.g. don't beep me for doing 61 in a 60km/hr zone.

I think we're going to take out the floor in the boot (saying that… I assume it comes out, haven't tried yet). With the privacy cover over it, the space is just too tight. We need the extra height that removing that floor would give.

Only other comment on it is that the rear doors need a proper push/pull to close. Not that it needs a big wallop or bang to close but I've been caught a couple of times (casually) pushing the door closed after one of the kids getting and then when I go to drive off, it alerts it's not fully closed.

I haven't tried the cruise control, but I've noticed a couple of glitches on the speed limits. When coming in the N11 at Cornelscourt, it picks up the 60 kph limit for buses, not the 80 kph limit for other traffic. When approaching J13 Ballinteer on the M50 southbound, it was picking up the 50 kph limit from the adjacent College Road rather than the 100 kph motorway limit.

Depending on which direction I enter my estate, it picks up the 30 kph only on one side so can whizz along at 50kpm otherwise :)

I notice the any open windows do not close when locking the car. This was a useful feature on previous car especially if rear seat passengers.

If you hold down the lock button (on the keyfob) it will close the two front findows as will holding down the open button will open them. It only works on the front windows and not the back :(

Renault Kadjar. The only reason now that it will be first choice is for longer journeys that also require a lot of luggage.

A couple of neighbours (also with families) have had a look at it and can't get over how much space there is inside for such a 'small' looking car. It's the ideal family run-around IMO and will cost peanuts to run.

So picking up ours today. Whats the key things I need to check for picking it up?

Yeah I sat in one in a dealership once and was shocked, serious space. Don't know how they did it in suck a small looking footprint.

Don't turn on the auto-hold feature. Turning that off made the driving experience so much better. What it does is stops the car from 'taking off' when you lift off the brake. It makes parking a challenge in particular.

Ask the dealer to explain the regenerative braking (the padels behind the steering wheel). I personally like it in Auto. It has the effect of automatically braking gradually for you if traffic in front slows down or stops (e.g. at a traffic light).
