Get it done before they close that loophole.

I'm not sure if the Chelsea loopholes work when talking about the Uefa FFP rules but definitely do with regards the Premier league PSR ones. Also if the valuation is anything like Chelseas then it may mean no need to worry about PSR for a few years and who knows what type of PSR system might be in place by then.

For the sole reason that PSR seems to be actively screwing teams like Villa who are completely "sustainable" I have no issue with Villa taking advantage of such a loophole if it will help and they aren't going to remove it as an option. If this is the difference between Villa being able to make signings or not then as much as I don't like it (and I know how hypocritical this sounds) I am all for it.

The whole point of PSR was to stop clubs accumulating debt they couldn't service then going under.

Wealthy owners writing of losses is a sustainable business practice, what Man City do is sustainable. Of course if the owner pulls the rug then it suddenly becomes unsustainable but any business is venerable to unforeseen circumstances.

If a club that was making a profit/is sustainable based on ticket income and commercial sales alone, they are vulnerable in the same way, attendances and commercial income could fall.

The rules are not fit for purpose and are not being applied in the spirit of it.

I personally hope we rip every loophole out there and find a few new ones.

Once we do it, the loopholes will start getting closed and that will stop the next team doing it.

There is so much money in football now that the next 2-5 years will determine the "big teams" for the next 20.

We also will never be the big bad guys because City will hold that for the next 20 or so years after their carry on.

Como just signed the Betis winger Jesus Rodriguez we were recently linked to.

Congrats to Iling Jr winning the Euro under 21’s with England whether we see him in a Villa shirt remains to be seen he’s certainly got the pedigree. We are in a good position as quite a few of our players haven’t reached their full potential yet.

As had been rumoured, Villa doing a Chelsea with the women’s team for PSR

    Yep as expected.

They will sell a small percentage stake of around 10% to American investors that then justifies the 90% sale valuation to the V Sports group.

Other news to take out of the news articles is that Villa have committed to presumably UEFA to decrease the wage bill by 10% this season and another 10% next season which still means a key player or two will be allowed to leave.

As I understand the rules, it is wages to turnover ratio for the calculation . If we can raise that latter by 10%, then that would achieve the goal.
Am I being too simplistic or have we committed to the reduction because we’re so far out of compliance?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,688 ✭✭✭✭CSF

It’s completely wrong that anyone is allowed do that, but if it’s permissible and being used, probably makes sense that Villa are not being honourable at their own expense.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭VillaMad

For UEFA it is a simple wages to turnover and you are required to be at 70% now and Villa were at 96% in the 2024 accounts albeit it was 13 month accounts.

UEFA however don't allow any income from selling the women's team or an inter-party transactions, so Villa are presumably negotiating with UEFA by agreeing that they will reduce the wages this summer and next summer to avoid any further sanctions with them.

Will obviously be more difficult without the extra revenue of Champions League money.

For SCR, I think I read somewhere that we have agreed to a 10% reduction in the percentage this year, and 10% the year after. My understanding is that there isnt necessarily an immediate punishment is you breach it, but you do need to be seen to be fixing it.

Looks like the loanees have gone back I think this was a short term throw of the dice to get Champions League qualification so not too surprised.

Disasi didn’t really impact things but I enjoyed watching Asensio & Rashford, Rashford’s style is quite unique hugging the left hand touch line before cutting in. When he’s good he is good but I don’t think we could risk his inconsistency especially given his wages which I think are better invested in medium to long term players we can develop.

I think SCR is just a fine.

I think Asensio would have been kept had we got Champions League

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,698 ✭✭✭LeBash

I got the impression Asensio was a done deal as soon as the PSR end of year was done. There was a lot of positives from Monchi and Asensio.

I think he killed Rogers form by taking that central role.

I know that they were always going to go back without cl football but there was evidence of where we need to get to from both.
At times they were just a little ahead of the rest of the squad in terms of class.
It was not always evident but in tight games you need difference makers and they both had a bit of that X factor. I think they elevated those around them for the last few months.

I know that Asensio tailed off after a phenomenal start but some of his finishing was on a higher level than we’ve been used to seeing.

Likewise Rashford showed that he belongs mixing it with the likes of PSG. Hopefully some of our existing players will have learned that they too can belong at that level.

People have bought into the rashford media hype. Nonsense. Bar a 15 minute spell in the second half where he did play well he was poor for large parts and actually played a massive part in been at fault for 2 goals in that tie against psg.

Didn't do near enough to get a deal. Would be a massive waste of money, nearly as bad as the emery love in with Felix if reports are to be believed

There is also a restriction on transfers. We are not allowed to make a loss on transfers. This seems to be a big restriction to me. But am not an expert.
