No, that would be a terrible idea for about a hundred reasons. Let's go through a few:

Baldonnels runways are too short and too difficult to extend

DUB is a major transatlantic hub. Hubs need the short haul flights too

It would cost billions to provide commercial level facilities and transport access to a new airport. O'Leary wouldn't fund a cent of this

Planning permission would likely never be granted.

Most importantly - Ryanair have zero experience of running airports, and don't want to run airports

An even more relevant reason is that the flight path for aircraft landing in Baldonnel into the usually prevailing wind goes right across highly populated areas of south Dublin.

    It would cause uproar.

It isn’t a runner full stop.

In addition to above, even if you could magically move DUB to another location it doesn't get rid of the need for ML. Yes the airport was one of the major connections of the route, however there are several major trip generators on the route, the most important of which is Swords, the single largest town in the country without a rail connection.

Even if you don't believe a rail connection to the airport is needed (which I would strongly disagree with), capacity to/from Swords is only going to be solved with a metro. A bus or even Luas is not going to have the capacity needed in the long term. And while heavy rail (such as a DART line) could work instead of a metro, even the cheapest/easiest option would need an investment comparable to ML while still having less benifit and capacity.

It's amazing how in this age that people still take everything they hear in the media as fact. Do you not even attempt to consider that Michael O Leary has his own agenda!

Ryanair's business model wants either no airport fees or pay as little as possible. Their argument is that airports earn money from Ryanair passengers through retail, car parks etc.

Car Parking is a massive cash cow for the DAA and basically subsides the lower airport charges that Ryanair pays.

Massive car park revenue has benefited both the DAA and Ryanair for years. OLeary doesn't give a sh1t about anything else other than his profit margin.

From what I understand an offer has been made but that doesn't mean that everything is signed, sealed and delivered.

Ah right, good to see an offer has been made at least.

from my understanding it is happening on that date as the 1st of September had been the Rumour at DX for the last few weeks

You may have more up to date information than me but last I heard was that an offer had been made but terms had not yet been agreed.

taken from the irish news article

A spokesperson for Translink said: “Following successful completion of the application process, Translink has offered access to private coach operators Aircoach and Dublin Express to operate from Belfast Grand Central Station from Monday, 1st September.”

As stated, just because Dublin Express and Aircoach have applied for access and been offered access from 1st September, it doesn't mean an agreement has been reached on the terms to allow that to happen.

Aircoach have confirmed on their Facebook page that they are indeed moving to Grand Central Station in Belfast from September 1st.

Also Dublin Express have left a significant hint on their Facebook page they are also moving into Belfast Grand Central.

Going to the Airport next Sunday (28 September). Intending to use No 16 bus. No information on likely disruption in the Drumcondra/Croke Perk area. Dublin Bus, NTA, TFI websites all useless. Help!.

the Dublin express Belfast timetable changes on the 6th of October 2025 with the a new Departure time of 50 past the hour from belfast the new times are on the booking system

I’m not sure what you expect to find, but basically the traffic in Drumcondra before/after a match is usually catastrophic, and all of the bus routes that operate through there take an age to recover.

I wouldn’t particularly be relying on any bus route that operates via Drumcondra either side of the match.

According to a post in one of the Facebook groups, one of the rigid Irizars (242-D-21350) has entered service and was working the staff shuttle. It also looks like the charging infrastructure has been installed by the carpark shuttle stops in T1.

According to a post on the Irish Transport enthusiast form, all the Irizar's delivered to date have been added to the Aircoach license this week and staff training has been going on for the last few weeks.
