hi folks, has anyone bought garden furniture from Rathwood, bought back March for delivery in early May ie now, only to be told it’s going to be June and for some could be later. Has anyone experience of Rathwood and waiting the same like me ?

Very same issue. Bought March 30th, delivery due a week later, then delayed a month and this morning I checked and its end of May. Ridiculous and no communication from them up to today, just relying on the status updates.

More frustrating is there’s a ‘wait and save’ offer that’s cheaper but specifically didn’t want as we need garden furniture asap.

Doesn’t seem like anything can be done but it’s not good enough

Well somethings don't change - we purchased garden furniture with them last year and the exact same situation with continued delays.

Just read the firewood thread in bargain alerts and you’ll know all about Rathwood. Dodgy business model

I’m not sure what to do whether to cancel or not tbh. If it goes on longer than proposed date we will have to because the summer will be gone.

just saw a comment regarding the firewood thread. Read through that, but the jist is they are constantly delayed with no customer service. Apparently it’s very difficult to get a refund from them also, so decide whether you wait for the furniture, or wait a long time for the refund.

I don’t think it’s that far I just think they have a such poor customer care etiquette.

Hi! So we're based near Fermoy co. Cork. Went into Toss Bryan shop today as we know they sell Rathwood furniture.

Basically found what we liked but it had SOLD sign on it.

There was a shop assistant having a chat with store manager near by, so I waited to ask if they could order us a set.

They told me straight to my face that they are ending all business with Rathwood and would advise all the people to get refunds as soon as possible if they had recently placed an order and strongly advised to notify others to not pay this company any money in the future as there's something very dodgy going on.

Didn't get any other information unfortunately, but you can try and ring the store.

I simply searched online if this was true and came across this chat. Glad I did.

I've a wood order in since Feb 25 and for furniture since mar 25. I've had the same experience as everyone else. Date kept getting pushed back for delivery. I cancelled the order over two weeks ago and despite promises, no movement on a refund. I've just submitted a claim to the small claims court. Wasting your time trying to get any money from the directly. Have a look at their reviews on Trustpilot. They're getting hammered. And magically done 5 star reviews from the Philippines have started to appear!

Just wondering did you every get your furniture? We are having the same issues. Ordered end of May for del July 3rd. Every 3 to 4 days it keeps being pushed out further. It would be good to know that someone has actualy got their furniture

I ordered furniture from Rathwood at the end of April, due for delivery at the beginning of June. I could see from the customer portal the table was in stock, but the chairs were always out of stock. The date for delivery kept getting pushed out by a few days, every couple of days. I tried ringing them, but could never get through. I added a note to the customer portal, which they replied to after a few days saying the chairs were not going to come back into stock. They offered me alternative chairs instead, which I accepted. I finally got everything delivered on July 11th.

The quality of the furniture is very good, when it finally arrives, but their customer service is not up to standard at all.

Having the same issue. Ordered mid April and as the delivery date approached, it kept changing. Numerous attempts to contact by the portal and email with no replies. Got through to the call centre after approx 30 mins on hold and was promised a refund, which was around 10 days ago and heard nothing since.

Why aren't people doing chargeback if paid by credit card?

Ordered in early June, unfortunately saw this thread a few days later. Same story with me (just kept silently pushing the delivery date back), they cancelled the order after I emailed them and noted that I've requested a refund on their portal and are now just ignoring me. I've started the charge back process but it can take 45 days I'm told.

You have to try and get a refund from them first, you can't just do a chargeback without engaging with them.

I got my furniture last summer from Rathwood. Honestly it was grand & they actually delivered a couple of days early (which was a pain for us because we were away but better than not at all).

you'd want to be VERY VERY careful with your defamatory statements on any company paying for reviews. In a way, it says more about the type of person you are than anything else.

Also initiating a chargeback when you have requested a refund and their site quite clearly states that the refund can take 3 weeks is jumping the gun.

I ordered wood logs from them. They pushed the date out by 4 months. I cancelled. Wasn't happy that the refund was going to take up to 28 days, but it arrived about 3 weeks later.

At the same time, i know of neighbours who ordered and got delivery in 3 days and sing their praises.

Never a good look when a company starts deleting comments from unhappy customers on their social media and puts restrictions on who can comment.

For what it's worth, they've put up the following statement:

    https://www.rathwood.com/pages/delays?srsltid=AfmBOoqz-pKR6CLjG9YNYb0YHo_wP5UdK-D8AaA_Qc5ZHYqanIGeZUAe

From that High Court link posted earlier, seems to be that one of their suppliers has gone into administration so this may explain the "supply chain issues" they've mentioned.

That high court judgement would be concerning as it would get around in the trade very quickly and suppliers may not be as forthcoming with credit facilities and insurers that provide invoice insurance are likely not to provide it.

The ruling is effectively a pre-emptive strike to ensure compliance with the repayment agreement. But not a good look.

You shouldn’t, their “praise” reviews on trustpilot are bullshit

    Rathwood are a basket case

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭geographica

that high court action, the company were owed $1.5 million by Rathwood?

Sharp enough business practice, 28 days on money which a company might have been sitting on for 4 months before that is a short-term loan.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,725 ✭✭✭geographica

exactly, plus aren’t they legally obliged to have monies returned within 14 days? And from what I hear this is not happening

I prob should have read this a bit earlier.

Ordered in May and now delivery is September.. might get the furniture for next Summer !

I ordered some egg chairs back in May for delivery at the end of July. Long story short, got an email saying they are not available and and asked if I'd like to proceed with alternative on their website. ( no offer of refund).

I requested a refund, no reply. Had to chase them for updates on refund and got little or no communication. Tried ringing, gave up on that too, wait times very long.

Checking the reviews online, other people appear to have issues getting refunds so I wasn't waiting around.

Went to my bank, did the charge back process and got my money back.

we finally got our furniture after threatening a charge back and the Irish Independent on them. I do believe they are **** house. We got burned by Meubles in Kilkenny like this aswell. I will never buy anything again from anyone without knowing it is in stock. Meubles had to wait 7 months instead of 3.

Nothing in that article about withholding refunds.
