Yet you, as a migrant, are still here, personally putting all that pressure on the Indigenous Irish…

I see the Ukrainians have moved in the newly built modular houses in Clonmel

What a sickening waste of money. Imagine iirc this is near 500m cost to the tax payer. I cannot get my head around building this abomination for a war that wont last forever.

The only estate in the country with no Irish living there

We all know what's going to happen to this place eventually because this government has a track record of this and it'll be turned into an IPAS center.

Again I dont blame the Ukrainians, why would they turn down something handed to them on the silver platter. The real issue lies with this government, which is creating a growing divide between AS and Irish citizens and we're seeing time and time again this government doesn't care about Irish citizens.

There's something so fundamentally wrong with this country that Irish citizens are turning into 2nd class citizens. We're still living through cost of living crisis where our bills are still through the roof but nope lets spend millions on this modular homes and tax payer pays for the up keep, electricity and so forth of these modular homes.

    Sickening

As mentioned before they are not going to bulldoze them when the war is over. They can be used to house other people.

The constant fake outrage must be exhausting.

Conspiracy theories are cool when it suits your narrative it seems. FFG secretly funding them? I do agree FFG are the big winners from this movement but that's more the fault of the opposition like SF for not taking a common sense approach and doubling down in their ideologies.

Speaking of gript interesting article up today.

Everything that's wrong with the current system.

As I've said before, facts don't care about personal circumstances and it's you and your buddy Robbie who keep dividing people of Ireland while screaming at others that they are racist.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

They should be used exclusively to house Irish born natives after the Ukrainians are returned home when the war finally ends. Now I'm well aware the Ukrainians won't actually be returned home. Some will by choice and the government will move international applicants into the houses they vacate. Like has been said we're now second class citizens.

No we are not and racist dog whistling comments like this add little to discussion.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 16,742 ✭✭✭✭Goldengirl

Posted here before . Will be used to house people , homeless , emergency social housing and estimated to have a 60 year lifespan .

But Irish aren't second class citizens . They are not being housed in modular homes because many will not accept them , only regular construction.

That too may change though .

When Irish are priced out of the rental and property market by foreigners yes we are.

When Irish have to share limited social resources with a huge number of foreigners many of which have entered through dubious means yes we are.

Many countries have introduced measures to protect native buyers in their country. That's not racism it's just fair.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

I'll believe it when I see it. So far I'm not seeing it. Foreign born people are already starting to make up a large percentage of social in Dublin.

The vast majority of Irish also don't turn down social. Some foreigners also turn down the first offers but again it's not the majority.

Ill be honest I have more for doing than arguing against your xenophobic thoughts and conspiracies.

The funny thing is you admit to donating to gript basically paying them to get you constantly angry.

I'm not siding with racists. I've repeatedly said that the attack in Tallaght was appalling. I don't know what it takes to get through to you. If you read back you will see that I was more afraid of this sort of thing happening than nerd Dwyer. It's likely the same group might be similarly inclined to attack nerd Dwyer.

PBP have been pissing down people's backs and telling them it's raining. That only worsens the situation IMHO. PBP mean well but they're a disaster. I know p Murphy from years ago, he's a nice guy but he's completely blind to the link between housing and immigration.

I don't know why I'm replying to you, all you want to do is scream at Dwyer etc. you seem to have zero interest in discussing the causes of unrest in poor socio economic areas. Discussing those causes doesn't mean the bashers shouldn't be prosecuted but it might prevent further attacks if action is taken to address legitimate concerns.

Additionally, you're crying racist. Is there any proof it was racially motivated?

I have never heard anyone use the term racist dog whistling in the real world. Yet it gets repeated in here like some sort of gotcha remark by posters who want to shut down debate and contuine their belief that its early 2024 and they can control the narrative.

Well, times are changing, people are waking up and the bubble has burst. Mass immigration has got out of hand, European countries are starting to clamp down and the government know they have to change direction. People can keep banging the everyone welcome drum, but that train has left the station and people aren't paying attention to it anymore.

AirBnb is a problem alright - I’d have absolutely no problem with it being ended tomorrow.

Let’s take your proposal at face value anyway - we added 75,000 non eu migrants to our population in the 12 months to the end of April ‘24 per McWilliams article the weekend Irish Times. Even if “poof” overnight every single one of those airbnbs was turned over directly into housing capacity it would be instantly absorbed by the need for that additional 75000 people.

What would be your “Actual solutions” for the addressing the accommodation requirement for the next year’s influx with Airbnb gone? I’m all ears

And a “massive and dangerous journey”, would you ever give it a rest - the majority of these people are not asylum seekers, they’re getting a flight over like anyone does every day of the bloody year. And even of those that are Asylum seekers, the majority of them are not genuine, as attested by the Taoiseach and the Minister for Justice himself.

They’re getting a flight, not floating across the Atlantic clinging to a piece of styrofoam insulation ffs, so just spare us all the incredibly transparent and facile attempt at emotional manipulation. If you had a genuine point it wouldn’t be required.

OK… but you're still putting pressure on us indigenous Irish people by being here.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

I'm quite satisfied with Gript holding the government to account and covering aspects of the news we should be hearing but the MSM don't want us to hear.

I wont bother reading the article, it seems like from what I can gather an innocent person was hurt by racist thugs.

I hope those thugs are arrested and I hope the innocent party recovers from the ordeal.

That would be my stance no matter who the perpetrator and victim is.

I won't try downplay the actions of a perpetrator based on there background, like is evident among several posters here who make excuses for thugs.

The poster has shared in the past that they are an immigrant.

You are using that as something to attack the poster with.

You would be well received among far right thugs, maybe that's why you seem so obsessed with talking about them?

Malta and Liechtenstein are Microstates as I said, so even relatively small influxes are going to have an outsized impact on their % population change

They literally are - I’m Alright Jack said only a few days ago that the reason the under 40s weren’t buying houses wasn’t because housing was scarce, it was because they were going to university and because they were looking to move abroad for quality of life. Which is of course, utterly ridiculous and beyond detached from reality.

No GG I never once said it’s all immigration that has us where we are. That largely sits with the government (in)action over the last 15 years. Unfortunately it’s not possible to retrospectively rectify that - we can only manage what is in front of us.

Non EU Immigration is the single largest contributor to population and by extent demand that the government have direct control over. Adding 75,000 extra people, over the population of Sligo or Roscommon in the space of a single year is not a small thing.

We’ve had barely over 6000 commencements in the first half of this year - how in god’s name are we ever to possibly get on top of housing demand when we’re bringing in twelve times that on an annual basis, people whose entry the government have direct control over?

I’m absolutely not saying stop it entirely, but only a fraction of these arrivals are medical workers or essential construction workers. Happy to give them a pass, but for the rest, I think we should divert our needs to the Irish and EU labour market.

Does equality of opportunity extend to anyone who rocks up to Mount Street having forgotten their passport?

You're being pendantic on the final point. You know well what I'm getting at, and there's no universally accepted definition of how the concept should be described. There's no need for that level of condescending nonsense.

Do you have anything to add on that point beyond your parameters of how it should be described? Should we welcome people who have beliefs that are in conflict with our own?

    Glazers Out!

You don't see those issues being defended here? I just defended them.

I've never shown any support for Conor McGregor or buildings being set alight.

Where do those clarifications leave whatever point you were trying to make?

    Glazers Out!

You might be the only one who didn't understand what I was referring to. Or perhaps you're the only one prepared to pretend you didn't know, despite everyone knowing you are trolling in doing so. Either way I just can't quite grasp that you don't understand what I was referring to so it's got to be a bad faith post. No need for that. I won't be responding further.
