Marty is a terrible commentator but he's grand doing interviews like last night, because he understands that the idea in the winners hotel is to make everyone feel relaxed and have the craic.

Joanne on the other hand is so bad at interviewing, always trying to find some way of irritating the person she's asking questions like she's trying to catch them out or trick them into saying something controversial, instead of just making them feel comfortable so they'll loosen up and share a bit of insight. it's like she thinks she's catching the manager or players or analysts out all the time, I always find myself cringing when she's doing an interview. Makes me miss Michael Lester.

Just a few thoughts on yesterdays game

Cork seemed totally surprised by the sweeper and played into o mearas hands by going long instead of trying to play it through the lines.

Wilie Connors had a super game. And I had reservations would he be good enough. Ronan Maher was inspirational and led like a true captain, probably surpassed his brother now as a great tipperary hurler. But I'd have mccarthy as motm. 1-13 in an all Ireland final is off the charts for a 19 year old.

The ref was hardly noticed in the game but darragh mccarthy might light heartedly say to John mcgrath over a pint, that I got sent off in the semi final while you commited similar fouls but got away with them

Key moment for me was Eoin Downeys first yellow. Tipp went in at ht down 6 after pretty much giving up playing while attempting to stop Hayes and Connolly. Downeys yellow gave them a chance- a subtle change to their FF line, leaving John Mc Grath isolated on Downey trying to get him booked- it paid serious dividends- a few goals aswel as the red. Iv great time for Pat Ryan as a man but leaving Downey come out after ht was a scandal.

Thanks! Rhey're always awkward interviews. Like the League Final was lost by 10 points, and the round robin bt 15 points to Cork. I can understand her going the 'it wasn't all plain sailing' route.

No manager in their right mind was taking off their full back at ht because he had a yellow card, especially not in an All-Ireland and particularly because he was not going to face a speed merchant. I do have a little sympathy for Downey as he probably should have had a free prior to the goal

Have Cork won a championship game under Ryan when theyv had a man sent off? I dont think they have. And just because Eoin Downey was Corks Fullback shouldnt save him from the hook when clearly a liability- any1 I spoke to at ht yesterday said he needed to go.

On the topics of reds- Off the top of my head Cork had 3 red cards this year.

Cormac O Brien in the league vs Clare(appalling decision by the ref which was overturned)

Shane Barrett vs Clare (questionable if it was anything other than a coming together)

Eoin Downey yesterday. Wrong sided by McGrath but the penalty/card were both totally bought by the ref.

3 questionable reds in 3 seperate game. All given out by Liam Gordon!

Downey's first booking was very soft too, McGrath was throwing himself to ground all day

OK but Limerick got plenty of dustings as well over the years before 2018.

Cantwell is a terrible presenter. Terrible appointment by RTE. I'll never forget her interview with James mc carthy and mick fitzmions after Dublin bet kerry and she made it all about David Clifford. Tried to the same last night to chill ranting on about last year. Awful awful presenter of our games.

    +1 to all of this.

First off, fair play to Tipp, they went out yesterday and dominated the game. Despite both teams looking very cagey, they were winning the 50:50s from early on and finding space all over the park. The flicks and breaking ball that Cork hoovered up in earlier games didn't come and Cork looked tired and out of ideas early on. Congrats on the win, well deserved.

I'm from Cork, was there in the Nally stand in 99 to see Mark Landers lift Liam and was there yesterday to see the capitulation. I genuinely didn't see any cockiness or overconfidence in any of my friends, family or acquaintences. If anything there was the constant memory of being 8 points up against Clare last year and losing it at the death.

There's gurriers and eejits in both sets of fans at every match and in the build up to every match. Usually young lads after too many shandys in the minibus to the match or the red faced goons who are one burger away from a fat coffin and who can only manage to express themselves by shouting abuse at all around them during the 70 minutes between whistles.

And then there's the 82,000 other fans who try not to step on each other to get their seats, wish each other best of luck, chat about the game and congratulate / comiserate afterwards like I did in 2013 with a Clare man sitting beside me for both final & replay and a Toomevara woman (who claimed to have babysat Darragh McCarthy!) yesterday.

It's incredibly lazy and boring to lump everyone in the same bucket based on a few outliers and frankly betrays a pretty telling ignorance of what the majority of GAA fans are actually like on the day.

Anyway, congrats again to Tipp and we'll go to the well again next year.

    This article is gas-

    https://www.rte.ie/sport/hurling/2025/0721/1524622-mcgrath-tipperary-must-savour-the-moment/

Shane McGrath talking down “back to back” chatter.

A few days ago who would have thought that would even be a sentence!?

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

Joanne asked Gavin once why he had such a funny expression and Fenton nearly fell off the stage. Constant stupid questions and the rest of the time she's just being argumentative. She targeted Brolly from Day 1.

I watched the Kilkenny 4 in a row finals back today and I was surprised to see Limerick didn't actually get hammered. If those 4 finals only Waterford were demolished.

They only lost by about 6 points and Kilkenny should of had a blatant red card for an elbow to the chin given early on. Not only that but early doors when they were getting stuck into kk the ref gave a few very soft frees and Limerick missed an easy early free to settle dropping it badly short.

Not how I remembered it. A few things went their way it could have been a completely different story. What a run they had to the final that year. I don't think we'll ever see anything like the trilogy they had with Tipp. Well we definitely won't unless they do away with penalties.

They should remove the preliminary quarter final round and allow provincial finals to go to replays again. We'd all have taken a cork Vs Limerick rematch this year.

The 07 semi final v Waterford was one of the most enjoyable matches I was ever at.

Waterford strong favourites after a 9 point win in the Munster final. Our full forward line blew them away with 5 goals. O Shaughnessy was at the peak of his powers and the mighty Donie Ryan with an absolute screamer.

Gave the final a good rattle and definitely werent hammered, but Kilkenny had us at arms length for most of it.

O Shaughnessy was a nervous wreck for that final! Seriously though if KK got that early red card it was game on.

Limerick played well. Eddie Brennan got the 2 early goals in 2007. It was pretty even after that. Henry was a loss in the second half.

Very few of the record breaking teams had an easy passage all the way, that's what made them great.

Kerry had a dog fight with Roscommon in 1980.

The Dubs beat Kerry by 2 pts in 2015, won in injury time in the All Ireland semi v Kerry 2016 and went to a replay in the final. Beat Mayo by a point in 2017. Drew with Kerry 2019. Kilkenny tight wins in 06 and 09.

i'm seeing a lot of talk that this defeat will set cork hurling back years, and that fans won't bother going anymore. a load of hogwash, I can see cork demand for tickets even bigger next year, as it seemed to be this year after last year's defeat. there's a bit of a mayo, boston redsox, chicago cubs aura about the holy grail now

and that young lads won't bother playing the game anymore?! ok people might have been joking saying that, but if they weren't, this defeat could do the opposite, ignite a fire in the belly of young lads to get back training!

Jamie Wall and Liam Rushe on Second Captains are the best analysts of the game IMHO. They put a small bit of clarity on it for me. Tipps 7th defender an age old tactic threw Cork. Wall was disgusted with Cork in the first half and how they stupidly persisted with trying to hit the inside 3. He said they should only have kept 2 inside and an extra man should have come to the middle third to counteract Tipp. Rushe said that Cork should have been galloping forward from their own backline with the spare man they had there, they didn't do this but he said Tipp deserve credit here because, they worked hard on potential Cork ball carriers in this area. Tipps plan in the second half would have been to stay as is and go for broke with 15 to go, it turned out they didn't have to change anything because of the sending off. Both pinpointed Corks awful skills meltdown in the second half, hand passing, shooting, picking off the ground, error after error. Wall also was fearful of the Downey McGrath matchup in the week leading up to the game and it turned out that he was right to be fearful, McGrath was just two wily for the youthful Cork defender.

My own take is that Cork need that Full forward line to cut loose to give confidence and oxygen to the team, they were stifled and Cork never got lift off and crashed and burned spectacularly in the second half.

Cork could do worse than get Wall in as a coach, he is working with a club in Tipp this year.

God help club hurling now, the sweeper was dead it will come back with a vengeance now after last Sunday.

It'll be interesting to see what changes Cork make to the team and how they go in 2026.

Regardless of how the Cork hurling team did in 2025 every young lad playing club from 8 years up had their league, championship and training sessions set out from the start of the year. The same in the majority of counties.

Young lads 7 to 17 will be training or playing hurling matches regardless of what happened Sunday and they get over things quickly.

I hope so. I love seeing the bandwagons and the razzmataz it brings. Dublin footballers from about 02-09, Mayo from 2012-23, Limerick kiely era and cork hurlers the last few years.

I think the fact the Munster hurling is so tight and there's 4 matches to be played will help keep the supporters onside. 65k from cork up to Dublin this year for the semi was a hell of a crowd.

Don’t want to be too negative, but there are serious issues with RTE coverage of hurling.

A number of posters have made points about the anchor, surely someone at the top of RTE should have the professionalism to ensure the problems are addressed and she does a much better job.

The analysis is not very good either, a lot of the time. How much stupid talk was there about Cork losing because Dublin were bad, or because they scored a goal at the wrong time? Peripheral issues and silly claims taken too far.

In general I feel there is way too much focus on the people presenting/analysing at the expense of the actual games. But the presentation is actually very weak.

Shock at how unprepared Cork were for any sort of curve ball and how unable to adapt is the common theme with anyone I listened to.

Can't remember which podcast (Skehill maybe)) but they mentioned how all those Cork players would have faced sweepers and should have made calls to change things up.

Richie Hogan was of the opinion that Tipps tactic didn't work in the first half because they were six down, I thought that was a strange take. I find Wall sharp and clear in his analysis.

Did Cork have too many cooks on the sideline? The sight of Pat Ryan with 5/6 Cork selectors, backroom staff in a huddle in the second half reminded me of a Junior B match "What will we do, Lads". In contrast to Tipp were Cahill and Bevans are together making the calls similar to Kiely\Kinnerk for Limerick over the years. Tactically Cork were too slow making changes and stuck to the process but this wasn't working. It's going to be a long road back from Cork after this. The notion that they might dominate over the need few years is out the window. I've no doubt that Pat Ryan is a great man manager and has brought Cork a long way but trying to make decisions with some many other voices does not work.

The optics of that "team meeting" looked terrible. Imagine being a player with the team already in panic all around you seeing that on the sideline.

What Cork really needed at that time was a goalkeeper with a dodgy contact lens but Collins seems to be one of the first to lose his head on that team.

RTE used to be the benchmark for sports analysis.

You had Bill O Herlihy, and the 3 boys doing the soccer.

The GAA pundits, Cyril Farrell and Ger Loughnane.

RTE analysis across most sports is utterly bland now, bringing in younger pundits and ex players who sit on the fence and offer little insight.

6 pundits they had sitting around in a cricle on the Sunday Game Sunday night, laughable.

Darragh Maloney should be the Live GAA and Soccer anchor but that will never happen in this era.

was chatting to a guy who plays hurling today and he reckons that Tipp changed their tactics in the 2nd half and that Cork didn't know how to respond.. I don't know alot about hurling myself - hence I was asking

    thoughts?
