Some judging him on his price tag already!

Price has nothing to do with him. If we underpaid, or if we overpaid, that’s purely good work or bad work by our moneymen, nothing to do with the player.

We judge on his output, workrate, job he’s been asked to do, and make allowances for age/experience and getting used to the new environment.

I have never seen Ekitike play, other than brief highlight snatches, but based on that i don’t think he’s anything like a Bobby. He seems raw and exciting. Stats show him as sixth leading scorer in the Bundesliga last year with 15 goals, a healthy 8 assists, but he had more shots than anyone else, so he misses plenty and/or takes on shots he shouldnt. The moneymen have decided he has great potential, he is not the finished product

So with very limited knowledge, I’m expecting an edge of the seat type of player, rather than a calm, hold up type player. Really looking forward to seeing him and i wont be one those going mad that he misses chances and is not instantly a Torres/Fowler goalscorer.

    That's some strawman first sentence.

Saying that his price will ultimately come into play when discussing whether or not he is an overall success is not judgement now.

It works both ways, Chiesa has been a poor signing but everyone is happy to qualify that with the lower transfer fee paid.

If it helps you don't have to worry about Friday as there's international fixtures the preceding midweek. And Monday isn't an issue as there are European games the following midweek.
So really comes down to whether Liverpool are playing on Tuesday or Wednesday in Europe that week, which is 50/50. If Tuesday then our preceding league game must be Saturday. If Wednesday then Sunday becomes a possibility, but it could still be Saturday. So I'd say it's roughly 75/25 in your favour for staying with Saturday.

And the draw for when the CL fixtures are out is 28 August. It wont be until then when it’s known if Liverpool play Tues or Wed 25th/26th and then you’ll know if the Forest game is Saturday or Sunday (although agree that Wednesday doesnt automatically mean Sunday, but i think it’s likely)

Judging by the fixture list for that weekend there is a good chance the game will be on Saturday.

Newcastle vs Man City and Arsenal vs Tottenham would be the Super Sunday dream fest for Sky.

I presume they will separate Arsenal and Spurs for CL fixtures, so one of them will play on Tuesday, so the derby will almost certainly be on Saturday. Both City and Newcastle in CL too, so would need both of them to be on the Wed to allow that game to be Sunday.

I would bet ManU v Everton is a dead cert for Monday Night Football

And similarly enough, Nunez is seen as a dud because of the high price paid for him!

When you dress to match traffic cones you better be able to back it up on the pitch.

Worth noting that there's going to be more 19:45 games on Saturday now with the new tv deal. Annoying if you usually fly over and back in a day

FFS, hopefully he fails the medical,I don't know how he is only 6foot 3" , his legs look about 5 foot alone

I just want to know where Man Utd are suddenly getting all the money from. 6 months ago Radcliffe was telling the world the club were broke as the reason why they fired hundreds of staff. Now they are spending 150m on new players this summer and bidding on plethora of others.

Didn't they sack a load of dinner ladies and cancel the Christmas parties? That probably covered Cunha 🤣

Hopefully more of a Ronaldo than Matip . By all accounts he's suppose to be one arrogant S.O.B . Believes he's the best, and no one will tell him otherwise. Winners have this trait.

Ekitike is an interesting signing, I’ve said it before that I watch a lot of German football, and he is in no way worth that money. But this is the market Liverpool are operating in these days, and due to the low availability of strikers, it has created this price bubble, so pay it and move on is all you can do!

I just can’t understand how Liverpool will line up this season, himself, Wirtz and Salah is not a front 3 I’d put together, if they’re all to play their favour position. Unless Wirtz is not going to be part of that front 3 and will play as a deeper No.10. With Gakpo, Ekitike and Salah up top. This to me would be unbalanced, as Wirtz would not give anything even near the cover that Szobalazi would provide. And given who’s playing as the full backs now, that additional midfield cover is needed more than ever.

hmmm. Some winners have that trait. Far more dickheads have it too though.

And plenty of winners don't need that bravado to be winners. Not something I particularly like to hear tbh. The club have been very good at picking players of good character though, so hopefully it's not as overt as you make out.

What I'm currently hoping for is a two system approach, depending on opposition. For deep lying teams where we have all of the ball and need to break them down, Wirtz as the 10, with 3 forwards to play to, and overlapping fullbacks causing problems. For tougher games, Wirtz plays as a false 9 (tip of a midfield diamond) off Mo and Gakpo/Ekitike, with Szobo back into the midfield. Similar to what Slot did last year in the win over City, where Szobo played as a false 9. Or the same, but with a box midfield with Szobo and Wirtz behind Mo and Gakpo/Ekitike.

Ekites strength seems to be dribbling, carrying the ball into the box, seems more like a winger than cf,, maybe we will see him on the wing at some point, especially if Diaz moves on.

On the basis of what has been seen in pre-season so far, the positions of the forward players will be a lot more fluid this season. In the game against Stoke at the weekend there was a lot of interchange between the attacking positions. Szoboszlai lined up in the right back position for the first half but was popping up in the #10, #9 and #7 positions. Wirtz floated left and right from the #10 position. Salah drifted into the #10 position confusing the defenders and creating space out wide. He didn´t look threatening but Iḿ sure that is because he has to adapt to not being the focal point for the attack. At the start of the second half, Gakpo was the #10, Chiesa was the wide #11 and Doak was the #9, the three of them also interchanged. On the right Bradley combined with Frimpong and the Stoke players didn´t know what players to cover.

We signed Bobby in 2015 for about £30mill when the world record transfer fee was about £60mill so firmino cost half the world record transfer fee at the time whereas Etikite is costing around £80 mill when the world record transfer fee is around £200 mill so by that metric Firmino cost more.

That may not be the best metric to judge a player's relative cost to one back in the day but it's certainly better than saying Etikite cost about 40 times what Roy Keane cost Utd when they signed him so he should be about 40 times the player Roy Keane is. That would be very silly obviously.

Presume we will be looking at something like this, where the wingers are instead narrow wing forwards alongside the striker and the wing backs push into midfield and make overlapping runs forward.

Difficult decisions on best eleven in midfield if there are two spots for Mac Allister, Szoboszlai, and Gravenberch, all of which had very good seasons. This may be resolved if Wirtz plays false 9, which I am doubtful on.

There is good cover for wide forwards with Ngumoha as well but not so much for striker if no one else is brought in and either Nunez or Chiesa is sold.

Decent further depth in midfield as well with Endo, Nyoni, Morton, Bacjetic not included. Presume Bacjetic may be sold, with Nyoni and Morton possibly being loaned with recall option?

We are currently lacking any depth in CB, with maybe Rhys Williams there, who is a doubt. Endo is not a CB. We need another quality CB minimum.

Presume one of Tsimikas or Robertson may move on at LWB, but not both. Ramsay for RWB may go on loan with option to recall? He seems to have hardly played the last few years though, so wondering about his development. I am not a big fan of Gomez at RWB.

Gomez can cover anywhere in the back line which is a big bonus, ok at fullback not as effective as first choice but still well capable.

CB is a problem, we'll have to replace Ibou next summer and we should also be looking for a VVD replacement at some stage within the next two years, you don't want to be replacing your two starting CB's in the same window.

I don't think Guehi is the answer but we should look to bring in a starting CB to duke it out with Ibou for this year.

Yet more depth on the left wing. Sounds more like a Diaz replacement than a Chiesa replacement.
