The post was actually "might is right baby"

    More than implied.

Of course. Do you not want the Gazans protected? Sure I'd love if Russia ended their genocide in Ukraine, pulled their army out and used it for good instead.

As for china it wouldn't make up for the bigger version of Gaza they've already pulled and gotten away with against the Uyghurs. Millions ethnically cleansed. The left wingers didn't have the same voice for them probably because of their left wing Communist ideologies.

Same logic for America. Doing the right thing and supporting Ukraine doesn't make up for Afghanistan.

I was just saying it like a yank. I've no problem saying what I like and what I support. You don't support military intervention to save the Gazans I do. I can sleep at night knowing if I had the power I'd stop it. I'm sure you're content with the fact you'd wait around while diplomacy gets to work. Western diplomacy is infected with Zionists but work away.

Good, so since you brought the subject up about Russia that has nothing to do with this thread at all. Now you support the Chinese intervening to protect the Gazan civilians from being bombed for nearly 2 years by Israel's government and also support the Israeli's in intervening in the slaughter of the Christians in Syria by their own government.

How about the Russian's interfering in the 10 year bombing and killing of Russian speaking Ukrainians by their own government, as well as being the only ethnic group in the world to be legally banned by it's own government from speaking their native language ? Even in Israel Palestinian's can legally speak Arabic !

The 3 conflicts are very similar that they never happened in a vaccum and go back decades, but only 1 group of oppressed people specifically and legally requested the right to self protection under the UN charter.

"if you get on the wrong train, get off at the nearest station, the longer it takes you to get off, the more expensive the return trip will be."

Lol, you want China to step in and "prevent genocide" in Gaza, they'd need to start a little closer to home by withdrawing from Tibet, East Turkestan (Xinjiang) and Inner Mongolia. 3 places where currently the Chinese are committing genocide.

Of course it's nice to see that you, along with groups like the South African EFF, support the "right kinds" of genocide, such as those carried out by Russia and the PRC.

The Russian's are and have been so facilitating to the Ukrainian language in both Russia and the occupied territories right?!

A few false flag bombings from Russian backed militias and useful idiots like you use it as an excuse to start a war which will end with a million plus deaths.

By this logic you would have supported Israel or NATO invading and ethnically cleansing Gaza after the HAMAS attacks on Christians there over the years?

    https://www.europarl.europa.eu/doceo/document/E-7-2011-006179_EN.html

And don't make me laugh with the only ethnic group. How do you think ethnic Ukrainians are getting on in schools in occupied Ukraine? They're trying to turn them into Russians. A bit like what the Chinese have done and continue to do to the Uyghurs.

And I'll just add this to highlight the fool you are. They tried making Ukrainian the official language not banning Russian.

    Pre 2014

No, Russian was not banned in Ukrainian schools prior to 2014. While Ukrainian is the state language, and there were periods of restrictions on the Ukrainian language in the past, there was no formal ban on Russian language education in schools before 2014. Parents had the choice of sending their children to either Russian-speaking or Ukrainian-speaking schools.

    Post 2014

While there isn't a complete ban on the Russian language in Ukrainian schools, there have been significant changes and restrictions implemented since 2014. The 2017 law on education prioritizes Ukrainian as the language of instruction, with limited exceptions for other European Union languages. Russian language instruction is being phased out, with a gradual reduction in the number of subjects that can be taught in Russian.

First of all, I did not say that the ties that bind a people together with a state must be ethnic! Be clear about what I actually said:

It's a fact that a state is more likely to function in a natural and healthy manner if its people feel bound to each other by some kind of ties.

There are exceptions where a multi-cultural society had something going for it at least initially, but most multi-cultural states are either held together by a strongman from one constituent group oppressing the others or have descended into some combination of totalitarianism, civil war or kakistocracy.

The latter group (kakistocracies) includes South Africa, which has the world's 5th highest murder rate, a world-leading unemployment rate, world leading rates of HIV/AIDS, world leading rankings in rape of children and infants, corruption on a scale unmatched in modern history, and basic services like electricity that barely function.

For every example of a multi-cultural state that functions well - like Singapore - the history books are littered with counter-examples like Yugoslavia, the Soviet Union, Iraq, Syria, Yemen and Africa for much of the latter 20th century where post-Independence leaders decided to keep the old inter-colonial borders creating countries few of the people identified with. Even places were multi-culturalism has worked, e.g. Singapore, have had to plan things very, very carefully.

There's only a few hundred thousand of this type of Christian left in Syria. I don't think they'll last too many more massacres.

There probably should be a thread for Syria. Rather than constant posts in it on the Israel/Hamas thread.

Yeah I get how seeing how Hamas and their fans actually behave is really inconvenient and disrupts the Israel = Eviler Nazi posts.

    It must be incredibly uncomfortable.

I think its allowed under the new current affairs rules to go completely off topic now. Hence the constant Syria and Sudan mentions. There should be a thread to only discuss what is happening in israel/ Palestine.

Seems Israel is considering ending the war. Of course, doubtful they'll end the construction of the Rafah Concentration Camp.

Also, confirmation that Netanyahu does not want the hostages released in one go - he wants the war to continue and for him to avoid his trial for corruption (and also a trip to The Hague for War Crimes of course).

The opinion piece by Avner Cohen is very interesting.

    Haaretz:

An Israeli official involved in the cease-fire negotiations told Haaretz that for the first time, Israel is considering the end of the war in Gaza as part of cease-fire/hostage deal talks with Hamas. "This negotiation touches on issues of how the war will end or continue, what will happen in Gaza and how all the hostages will be returned," the Israeli official said.

"Hamas' shift [regarding cease-fire talks] was expressed in a statement by its spokesman in Gaza, Abu Obaida, who said that this was the last time that Hamas would be willing to discuss the partial deal that Netanyahu is seeking. Abu Obaida said that if Hamas' terms were rejected, in the future, it would only agree to a single-stage comprehensive deal – just what Netanyahu doesn't want. We'll know whether there is real progress in the talks the moment [Trump envoy Steve] Witkoff arrives. Only an agreement can bring the hostages home. Neither the military pressure of the past four months since Israel resumed fighting nor the effort to take control of the aid supply have changed Hamas' positions" – Amos Harel

"Israelis rarely reflect on the hegemonic and monopolistic existence of their hidden [nuclear] capability, but they have no doubt that the Iranian bomb – which still doesn't actually exist – has only one purpose: to destroy their country. Thirty years of trolling about a Holocaust-like "existential Iranian threat" have rekindled Holocaust anxieties among a people haunted by them, even though only one country in the Middle East, "according to foreign sources," has developed an apocalyptic capability, based on its commitment to ensure that another Holocaust should never happen again"

    Avner Cohen

Is there a thread in politics for this? Seems we're getting derailed for all sorts, including "if I were in charge I'd use force to stop Israel" type crap.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,095 ✭✭✭Sudden Valley

There is a Syrian thread in current affairs where the israeli involvement is being discussed. The Syrian action has nothing to do with what is happening in Gaza or the West Bank, it's just a diversionary tactic that is not even in the right thread.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,767 ✭✭✭circadian

No I mean a discussion about Israel/Palestine that is more robustly moderated.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Might be easier to have an Israeli conflict thread . That cover about 5 topics in one.

    @circadian

It's the nature of threads as they and the events they are about to on, there isn't anything happening in Gaza at the moment but Hamas aligned forces are butchering Druze civilians who are more aligned to Israel.

It's human nature to discuss it.

Reported that the US was furious with Netanyahu for bombing Syria this week:

"The White House is alarmed by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s decisions in Syria, multiple officials in US President Donald Trump’s administration were quoted Sunday as saying, branding the premier a “madman” and “a child who just won’t behave.”

“Bibi acted like a madman. He bombs everything all the time,” a White House official was cited as saying by the Axios news outlet, using the premier’s nickname. “This could undermine what Trump is trying to do.”

“The feeling is that every day there is something new. What the f**k?” said a second senior US official after an Israeli tank shell hit a church in Gaza, killing three people, in what the IDF says was a mistake."

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

Sounds like the US are happy to sacrifice the Druze for their new Sunni buddies in Syria.

2000 dead Druze and Christians in the last few days, thousands of women and children raped.

They haven't hit enough, they can't try to right every wrong even though they want to but they should arm the Druze and let Israeli Druze join the fight against Jolani and his Jihadi army

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,217 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

Who knows if that source even exists but any idea that Jolani could be worked with or reasoned with is over, the Druze mountain needs to be its own state

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,112 ✭✭✭RoyalCelt

The US will still work with him because otherwise he'll turn to Russia and the entire reason they were happy to let Turkey's rebel plan go ahead was to oust a major Russian ally.

With Iran after getting a bloody nose they're not going to let Russia back in the game. If the Druze wanted to form it's own state I think I'd support them but I'm yet to here talk of this from Druze leaders.

    https://www.quora.com/Why-exactly-cant-Druze-have-their-own-nation-state

Some discussion here on the topic but it was a few years ago when Assad was in charge.

There is no ceasefire in gaza so of course there is something happening there every day. There is an iran thead and a Syria thread but posters tend not to use them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,217 ✭✭✭✭Danzy

Something happens but nothing major or newsworthy, it's effectively a peace but to get Hamas to agree.

30, 000 little Gazan children murdered and you have never expressed any sympathy. You must be incredibly uncomfortable.

'' there isn't anything happening in Gaza at the moment ''

93 starving people murdered by the IDF today. Are you that coldhearted?

One noticeable change is that western media outlets are now largely reporting that civilians have been 'killed by Israel'. For a very long time, such headlines were couched in vague terms, saying that Palestinian civilians had simply 'died', but the slaughter has been so utterly relentless and with one obvious culprit that the media are being much more explicit about the killings.
