Switching from Eir to Sky - never asked for UAN, probability of getting charged twice?

Did you move from a copper product ADSL or FTTC to fibre by any chance ?

This has happened to me and someone else posted similar with open eir.

I gave the wrong old UAN by mistake and they just sent a technician to replace the ONT and the previous ISP had no clue that I’d switched and far as they knew I was still using the ONT that was there before.

He just left the old ONT behind and I just cancelled the old ISP myself.

Is a technician visit needed?, it shouldn’t be if it’s just an ISP switch through open eir.

It depends on if you are staying with the same “last mile” network, e.g. open eir, SIRO, NBI. If you are staying with the same one, no notice period is usually needed and you can just switch as long as you are no longer in contract, the new provider will ask for your UAN to carry out the switch.

If you are moving from open eir to SIRO for example, then you do have to cancel the old provider yourself. But you can get other networks installed while still having the other active as they are independent of each other, a new ONT and fibre cable needs to be installed for each.

Yeah but which access network are you currently using, do you know? open eir or NBI?

And which one has Sky said they are going to use - open eir, SIRO, NBI, Virgin Media FTTP?

Have Sky asked for your UAN from eir?

Yeah if they are using open eir or NBI and so do Sky then you give the UAN and the switch can happen whenever.

The UAN should be on your eir bill

Yes you can, no notice is needed usually when staying with the same access network. I’d definitely switch before the 30 days while the line is still active.

Even if Sky were going to use a different network, then your eir connection won’t be affected and will just cancel after the 30 days anyway.
