I hadn't realised the Hill was rebuild in the late 80's. I assumed what was there before the current stand was 60's at the latest.

With it a week out from the final, I wonder what training cork and tipp would be doing this weekend? Would they be going hard at it, a competitive 15 on 15 match, or just doing ball work, first touch, shooting, tactical stuff etc.

Last thing you want is injuries a week b4 the biggest game of the year.

As an aside stíll hard to get your head around the all ireland final on b4 the end of July. Must be difficult for the two counties to organise everything into 2 weeks. Tickets, fundraising, banquets, accommodation etc

We had a trainer( that's what they were called back then) who for a big match always wanted his team " ball hungry " on the day. We certainly wouldn't be going hard at it a week before an all Ireland. Each player is different but a lot ,including all the panel, will be visualising the various scenarios involving them that may arise. Again all personalities are different but some fellas ,same as racehorses, absolutely thrive on the big day while others can get overwhelmed by it all. I've always felt it's the one day when you should leave the field having no regrets. Regardless of who wins both squads have done their county proud.

If Galway, Dublin and Wexford upped their standards it would be do or die for Kk when playing them in Leinster thus improving KK. It would also mean they wouldn't always win Leinster so would have to play a QF which would put them in a better position reaching the semis imo. Ready for an ambush a bit like Tipp this year. KK surely can't go on and do 7/8/9/10 Leinster's in a row? They'll win no all Ireland's with that level of competition.

Yeah the hill has went through many changes. It'll be interesting to see how long the current variation lasts. I always find it a shame they couldn't extend the Nally over the railway line. Even if they removed the security building and TV screen it would really improve the crappy parts of the Nally. I think a symmetrical hill 16 would increase the attendance to 90k.

The 82k capacity only really coming in useful now with non Dublin football semis starting to sell out. Cork V Limerick and cork V Dublin in the hurling and Meath V Donegal in football.

Kilkenny are likely to go backwards this year, and Galway presumably can't get any worse so I would be very shocked if we continue to win leinster every year but it won't be because the standard has become massively better.

I'm sorry but I laughed getting Mick McCarthy vibes from your post.

It can't get any worse then this can it? It can, it can!

It's a shame Offally couldn't mount a challenge with the current dip in the standard. Likewise for Wexford.

Great boost for cork having harnedy fit enough to make the bench.. Tough on jack o connor and Ethan Twomey to be omitted from the 26.

There'll be a lot of genuine fans not able to get tickets which is disappointing but that's life I guess. Should be some occasion Sunday and hopefully for the neutrals we'll get a close exciting match with no major controversies.

Offaly have a very young team but they would need a few years of great underage teams to produce enough guys to compete at senior. Would love to see it but I think they're just too small a county (with a really tiny hurling area) to sustain that top level competitiveness consistently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,195 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

I remember as a young lad Cork all Irelands were always a hoor to get a ticket for. Even by those standards it seems ridiculous this year. Never known so many people from both counties who still don't have a ticket a few days out.

I still think the fact the minor match is no longer on the same day of an even bigger disappointment than moving the thing to July. Was a great part of the occasion.

All ireland final day just not the same without the curtain raiser, they need to have something on beforehand, it just feels like another game now rather than the culmination of the inter county year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,070 ✭✭✭✭billyhead

Whatever about moving the AI final to July, there was no need to do away with the curtain raiser.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,898 ✭✭✭robbiezero

Thought Jack O Connor would feature a lot more than he has this year even coming off the bench. He was outstanding for Sars in their run to the AI final, but I guess he can be quite wasteful under extreme pressure.

Was an U-17 minor final ever played before the senior final. I believe the move to remove the Minor Final from AI Day was more to with Minor Level becoming U-17 rather than U-18 and that the feeling was that U-17 players were too young to be playing in front of such a big crowd.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,195 ✭✭✭✭Realt Dearg Sec

That's a stupid reason though. The minor as a standalone event is even more pressure because everyone is there specifically to see them rather than coming in in dribs and drabs. Also the younger players would, I have no doubt, love the chance to play that curtain raiser because it would be a highlight of their lives up to that point.

If I remember correctly it started during Covid and then Offaly packed out that final and the idea that those games were better standalone.

And thus begins their 21 years of hurt 🤣

In fairness I really doubt they are going to lose but there is the small chance this team becomes 90's Limerick or 00's Waterford.

Is Cork's form better than Tipp's over the full championship season?

Cork obviously beat Tipp comprehensively in the round robin game. That was Tipps one malfunction. Cork had a similar malfunction against Limerick.

In the other Munster games against Limerick, Clare and Waterford, I'd say that Tipps form was at least as good as Cork's, arguably better.

In the all ireland series, Cork hammered an inferior Dublin, whereas tipp had a comprehensive win v Galway and a massive battling win over Kilkenny.

Tipp got results in three key matches v Limerick, Clare and Kilkenny, which they had every chance of losing.

If both teams play to form on Sunday, I don't see much between them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,140 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Corks recent record against Tipp is overwhelmingly one sided. They are also on for the triple including beating Tipp in a league final.

The real interesting thing that could make this a great final or scupper it is neither side has really won an All Ireland so both have the chance to put in a balls to the walk Limerick 18 performance or a Cork 21 performance.

If both are on the same level of form Cork win though.

Sure we love the controversies makes it all the more interesting

    N

"Neither side has really won an all Ireland "! Cork have 30 and Tipperary have 28!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,483 ✭✭✭giveitholly

And there are 8 tipp players with All-Ireland medals,do these not count?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 31,140 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Didn't realise it was still that many. Still a very inexperienced panel beyond that and no way of knowing what kind of performance they give on Sunday which was my original point.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,190 ✭✭✭blowitupref

Scoring averages per game during this championship

    Cork scored 3-24 (33) and conceded 2-23 (29)

    Tipp Scored 2-15 (31) and conceded 2-21(27)

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,869 ✭✭✭realdanbreen

I was responding to the Limerick fella who said neither side has really won an all Ireland. Anyway a load of us heading up tomorrow afternoon most with tickets some not but the occasion should be mighty.

Is it not 9 on the panel? Brian Hogan, Michael Breen, Ronan Maher, Willie Connors, Jake Morris, John McGrath, Jason Forde, Seamus Kennedy, & Noel McGrath were all on the winning panel for the 2019 final. Now they might not have all got a medal but at the core of this Tipperary team there are 9 players who have experienced winning an All Ireland final at senior level. Then for the other 17 players on the panel for Sunday you have a mixture of players who have only experienced the bad times over the last few years and new green players who have joined the panel very recently. Seems a healthy mix to me.

Majority of the Cork panel have failed in finals at senior and underage grade. Will be fascinating to see can they cope if Tipp put the squeeze on.
