lol, A poll… voted on by members of this thread… lol please do it. The far right definition you all vote and thank each other on would be hilarious!

I think people sometimes get a bit confused between 'far right' and 'extreme right' : extreme right would be your neo-Nazi skinhead types, openly proposing violence and mayhem.

It would be safe enough to say though that 'far right' or 'right wing populist' ideas have become much more mainstream in the West in the last five to ten years, especially with the huge surge in social media activity and the rise of Trump / MAGA etc.

Holy Hannah!!!!!, who knew such a throwaway comment from o1s1n would get such legs, lol.

Not that we want to go further down this rabbit hole, but no1 is/was defining far right as a dog kicker.
There are a myriad of other reasons Dwyer would be considered far right.
The dog kicking incident is just one of the things that have given him notoriety in the far right/anti-immigrant sphere.

As much as I'd love to be the one responsible for coining that phrase I'm just repeating what others have said unfortunately.

Even the Sunday World are at it.

    https://www.sundayworld.com/crime/irish-crime/dog-kicker-and-creche-creeper-to-run-for-europe/a1183762889.html

I'm really looking forward to seeing him prosecuted for going at someone with an extendable baton in Bray.

Did anyone see the guys protesting on the N11 this morning? Were about ten cars going as slow as possible blocking the whole road with Gardaí ahead of and behind them. Three busses caught up in it too.

Some absolute loon of a woman shouting out of her SUV with a megaphone about 'de ill-eEgle iMmIGrants'

Small enough group but causing an absolutely huge tailback during rush hour.

Yeah I heard about it from someone caught up in it. Those people they disrupted will surely vote for the far right in the next elections…

Do you have the name of the legislation that states that we don't have any repsonsibilty to EU citizens after 3/6 months?

Great advice. No meaningful change will happen until people start doing things like this. If you want to change the system, you need to get politically active.

I know some of the people that go to the everybody welcome protests, harmless nerds that mean well would be a good description. The most thrilling thing they've done is shout at people from behind a Gardai protection line. I've never been to a not welcome march but have seen a couple of Philip Dwyer videos and it seems the all welcome nerds love to argue with him and his gang because they feel big and he's not going to actually hit them or anything.

I was threatened by a major drug dealer where my family and I lived. It was serious. There's very few serious people involved in the protests and not very many serious people in Ireland. If that were to change, I'd be very worried.

Philip Dwyer is a harmless nerd that nobody serious listens to except the 'everybody welcome' people.

If you want to discover more, I suggest living and meeting real people in Ireland. Unless you've lived it or have empathy, it's hard to expect you to understand so I'll put a full stop here.

Fwiw, I think immigration has generally been good but the current continuing level is putting huge strain on resources. Also, it can present new challenges when there are multiple expat communities in the same school/ class. I'd like to know the goal, I.e. 10 million/ 20 million people. The lack of transparency is troubling to me, I'd be sad if all the nature was turned into housing estates as is now happening around us. Why not just say, the goal is 20 million by x. The new housing will be in x,y,z and the reason for increasingly the population is a,b,c so people understand what's happening? Couldn't that be part of the FFG, SF, PBB, etc party manifesto? Then people could vote in full knowledge of the party intentions.

Hope that helps clarify my sentiments around the protesters on both sides.

Now back to what I was staying here, it would be good to define what is meant by far right because the old 'the far right ' definition around Nazism no longer seems relevant so why not define the new version in the thread so at least there's something to which to refer.

Dwyer is scum. He has abused an animal, assaulted vulnerable people, harassed women and children, and he promotes 21st century Nazism and racism.

Why you defend him is beyond me. He is objectively neither harmless nor a nerd (they are by definition intelligent).

Social Welfare (Consolidated Claims, Payments and Control) Regulations 2007 – S.I. No. 142/2007

EU citizens with no PRSI paid in Ireland are not immediately eligible for PRSI‑based benefits.

However, they can apply right away (once they pass the Habitual Residence Condition) for means-tested welfare, such as Supplementary Welfare Allowance, Jobseeker’s Allowance, or the non-contributory State Pension.

In particular, SWA provides a short-term income for up to 6 months if they've worked in Ireland <1 year—even without PRSI .No, EU citizens with no PRSI paid in Ireland are not immediately eligible for PRSI‑based benefits.

I think you were saying you live in England so maybe your distance colors your ideas.

I'm in no way defending Dwyer. You seem to think that a postman kicking a dog in 2011 qualifies as something in the real world.

For context, a mixed race girl had her eye knocked out beside us. I was absolutely furious about that.

    https://www.rte.ie/news/courts/2025/0624/1520088-jack-cummins-court/

During COVID-19, drunks from all over gathered in clearys, which was inexplicably allowed remain open, beside the local creche. Nobody really gave much of a **** and they occasionally would shout out stuff.

This poor child was shot around the corner from us

And you're expecting me to be worried about some middle aged sap. I wish you'd stop posting on this topic as you seem very uninformed and unable to understand the challenges of most people living in Ireland.

All this could be clamped down and cleaned up / we don't need to look too hard where these loop holes are being exploited / usually cases where the individuals in questions make the 9 o clock news

You were and now you're doing it again. The deflection and ad hominem does not change that.

Assuming you meant ad hominem. I've outlined my position several times. Dwyer is a sap who seems to be fairly unpleasant but in no way is he public enemy number one. I've never met him and have outlined how his crimes are quite trivial in the overall scheme.

I consider your argument that he is in any way notable, except maybe as a joke lesson to kids, don't kick a dog or you'll end up like Dwyer, to be completely elitist and uninformed. You're not even living in Ireland. It's hard to know what else to say to you to reveal your delusion.

It's like st Pat's and Shamrock rovers, both are really important to their supporters but most are not that involved. You seem to be in a small niche fixated on a goon called Dwyer that almost nobody cares about except your team. In fact, you're probably giving him oxygen by constantly talking about him.

I don't understand why you want to keep talking about him but as you assert, it's not something I have control over. It reminds me how Americans used to contribute to the IRA because they knew best. Anyway, apologies if my wish offended you. It's not easy living in England, I was there for a few years too.

I'm not interested in either your strawmen or things I never said. I didn't bring up Dwyer, I was just wondering why you're so zealously defending such a vile and hateful man. It's weird that you feel the need to respond with insults so maybe let's just call it there.

As regards Dwyer it's exactly that some people are fixated on him ..his videos were constantly being posted here up to a few months ago in support of anti immigration, until those posters were told what a small little man that they were promoting . Now those same posters want to play down the significance of the type of person going around spending all their waking days protesting' illegals ' or interviewing AGS or AS by sticking a phone on a selfie stick up their noses .

I would not consider the harmless nerds either as you do .

It's their rhetoric that is fuelling the violence by brainless scum who are perpetrating all sorts of intimidation and violence on vulnerable people in Ireland .

    Stop twisting .

Worth pointing out that the child in the link you posted was shot in 2014. Over a decade ago.

Horrible incident, but what has that got to do with immigration in Ireland today?

Meanwhile, here's a photo of Philip Dywer campaigning 6 and a half months ago in Bray.

I've encountered people like that so wouldn't view it as particularly outlandish.

I read the article a few days ago.

Basically, the woman who wrote the letter asked for advice with regards to her husband who has been spending a lot of time on social media, becoming radicalized in the process. Where he used to be fun, he now spends his time spamming his wife with links to right wing drivel and harping on and on about refugees. The advice offered is basically to try couples therapy and possibly divorce if he refuses.

As always, it's a red flag when someone dumps a screenshot though actual link dumps are a similar red flag.

Same here. I thought it'd have been posted sooner.

I went home for a while last year as I was expecting my Dad to die. Thankfully, he pulled through but for a fair bit of time I was there, a sibling just would not shut up about Trump, trans people and immigration. It's weird how some people can get so radicalised that it partially disconnects them from their environment. Even on Christmas day, another sibling decided that we all had to know that Mohammed had become the most popular name for babies in the UK. On Christmas day, like…

Same thing happened to my brother in law unfortunately. Over covid he went from being a really easy going guy to a vaccine denying, Trump promoting very difficult person to be around.

    It's crazy how susceptible some people are to those Facebook/Youtube rabbit holes. Thought Ronny Chieng summed it up great here;

You have my sympathy. All of my family are Trumpers though thankfully my parents can barely use the internet.

I like the clip but it reminds me something similar that happened at work. I was shutting down my primary machine which takes a few minutes. I was alone so I opened an incognito Chrome window and watched Harry Enfield's sketch about the Dutch policemen. I then went to the YouTube home screen where, top of the list of recommendations, was a video from one Katie "final solution" Hopkins. No idea how the algorithm made that call but yeah….

Yep it pretty much mirrors people who became passionate conspiracy theorists during COVID. Basically online radicalization that doesn't really align with reality. All you have to do is look at the people who push the great replacement conspiracy and such, just hugely overlaps.
