Ended up selling out at 57,000 with 10k coming from Bremen. Unfortunately Werder advanced to the final AET but the atmosphere was great throughout. Stadium erputed when the captain headed in a last minute equaliser.

Bielefeld knock off Leverkusen and are in the Pokal final. They've been drawn against 4 Bundesliga sides (Union, Freiburg, Werder, Leverkusen) and beaten them all. Amazing stuff.

This has also thrown up a funny fixture clash as a 3.Liga side has never reached the final (since the current structure was established). In Germany, the 21 regional cup (Landespokal) finals are played on the same day as the DFB Pokal final, usually in the afternoon then the big game takes place in the evening. Bielefeld also reached the Westfalenpokal final, so on May 24th they are currently scheduled to play Rödinghausen or Lotte at 2pm and then Stuttgart or Leipzig at 8pm.

HSV the big winners of the matchday in the 2.liga with Köln, Paderborn and Lautern all losing. 6 point lead over 3rd, essentially 7 with goal difference. Let's see how we f*ck it up this time 👍

Losing 4-2 at home to relegation threatened Braunschweig is a good way to start..

Well, Oat23, we didn't have to wait very long.

Very lucky that Koln dropped points too.

And today Magdeburg lost to relegation candidate Ulm. Looks like no one wants to get promoted 🙃🤣

Elversberg now in the mix. And big game for Kaiserslautern this evening.

    Enjoyed Der Klassiker today.

Elversberg's fearless attacking style is worthy of promotion if they get it, hopefully not at our expense though. I always like watching them.

Lautern also lost tonight to FCN. Big game for both Paderborn and Fortuna tomorrow.

Yeah, and how they came up from the regional divisions is like a fairytale. Their next 3 matches are against Düsseldorf, Paderborn and Nürnberg who are all still in the chase.

On paper, we should be OK. The teams that chase us have matches against each other. I feel like 58 points will be enough, 2 wins in our last 5 matches. But after the heartbreaks of the last few seasons, I will only celebrate when it is mathematically confirmed.

Bloody hell, mad game in Berlin! 4-4 and it's only half time!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 37,337 ✭✭✭✭NIMAN

Those 2 teams must not play the generic football that we so often see.

You could see that Schalke equaliser coming, Hamburg were very poor in that 2nd half. Felt like they were happy with the 2-1 and just wanted to sit back and defend it

Even when Schalke went 2-2 Hamburg still didnt get out of 1st gear

As a Hamburg fan, this is again torture. It's the hope that kills you.

Looking at the schedule of our opponents, there are still a few games between teams that chase us, so points will be dropped. But our form has dipped at the worst time... again...

Hard to believe a club the size of Hamburg have been down in the second division for 7 seasons.

Hertha got a delayed new manager bounce. 4 wins and a draw, in their last 5 games. Reece is flying now, after a taking a while to regain form, due to that bad injury he had. Sadly, I can't see him still being at the club next season. They probably would have lost him last summer, had he not been injured.

Another defeat for Hamburg, wheels have really come off. FC Koln also lost.

With 3 games to go, the top 7 are separated only 5 points (4 teams at 49 points right now), so looks like this will go down to the wire.

What is it with German football and flares, it seems it's happening every game at this point

I was watching Heidenheim v Bochum which was an awful game of football and at times you could barely see the goals

Köln have sacked both Keller (sport director) and Struber (coach) tonight after drawing with relegated Regensburg yesterday. Patrick Berger from Sky is saying the board wants Friedhelm Funkel to come out of retirement again and take charge for the last 2 games.

I don't think it's a panic sacking. Probably overdue if anything, especially for Keller. Felt like they had no chance of picking up the 3 or 4 points they will likely need if they left Struber in charge.

Yeah, very unconvincing of late, 5 points out of a maximum 15 in the last 5. Elversberg on their heels now, 3 points behind with 2 theoretically easy games.

Big win for Hamburg yesterday, and we can secure promotion on Saturday against relegation fighting Ulm.

Congrats Oat! Deliberately didn't say anything until now after jinxing it a few years ago. 7th time lucky.

Great to be back, and of the 7 seasons it happens in the most unlikely one. Nobody was happy starting the season with Baumgart. His sacking was inevitable. Then Glatzel hurts his hip and our 20+ goal striker is gone so it feels like a wasted season. Kuntz tries to land van Nistelrooy and fails. Then Kwasniok, and he fails again. Then he turns to long-time assistant coach Merlin Polzin, the local who grew up a HSV fan, who manages to do what 6 coaches before him failed to do and leads us back to the Bundesliga. Great story.

Totally agree. When Glatzel got injured, I thought that was it, another season gone. But despite some hiccups along the way, the team kept digging deep. We were also fortunate that so many teams were close to each other and none run away with it. In the last few seasons, 60 points wouldn't even get you to the playoff 3rd spot.

Looking forward to next season now!!

Sky obviously not even bothering to look at the table before picking a handful of games to stream on Sky Sports + this afternoon. They didn't include the Freiburg v Eintracht game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,357 ✭✭✭eigrod

will be fascinating to see how he gets in there

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,846 ✭✭✭✭Oat23

Heidenheim survive with a winner deep into injury time. What a shame for Elversberg.

Still no word on the television rights for next season, with 2.Bundesliga starting in a couple of weeks. The 4 year deal with Sky finished after last season.

Apparently the DFL will have commentary on the world feeds for all the 2.liga games going forward. Previously it was just 2 or 3 per matchday.

Good news for American fans at least as I suspect ESPN+ will now carry all the games. Since the 2.liga doesn't clash with the 3pm blackout rule whoever gets the rights for UK/IE could potentially show all of the games too..
