It was Kearys in Dublin but definitely a cork connection!

Mine knew they didn't really need to "sell" the car to me, cause there'd be someone in for the same delivery slot within a few hours probably; but did a proper test drive and have been good with follow up stuff

Options etc weren't discussed at all though. E.g. I did want the black roof, but we never even spoke about that - price given was for one with the black roof and I suspect not wanting it would have caused a September+ delivery.#

The cars are basically selling themselves as it is.

I can’t fault my dealer. The first salesman acknowledged that it’s selling really well but were also getting a lot of people just wanting to test drive it so he came across a bit jaded. He seems to have left the dealer shortly after I ordered and the new guy I dealt with was an absolute gentleman.

I went back with a friend who’s a big car enthusiast in the meantime and they let use poke about their test drive model for ages and have another test drive.

There were no issues getting all the paperwork together from their end, things happened when they said they would

Very happy with the whole process.

Anyone ordered a Roland Garros edition?

Picking up my Yellow Iconic on Thursday. Sold my beloved i3, so big shoes to fill. I am very excited about it. Dealer has so far been exceptional. I have had manys a car and manys and EV and for some reason this one is exciting me more than most. Starting to see a few around, and they draw the eye alright. I am a little worried about the rear space, and hoping the ride comfort is good. I only had a brief test drive and impulse purchased.

    Anyway only 3 more sleeps…….

Anyone have any recommendations for a V2L adapter that will work? I've seen the EV Cables one that's a plug on the end of a lead, but would prefer a tidier unit like the official Renault one. Still no word on when I would get one if ordered from Renault so on the lookout.

Rear seat space seems to be very related to how far back you sit, im 5'11 and leave very little space but other people that have driven it close to my height pull the seat a good bit forward from my position. And you might have to raise the seat a little to allow foot space under seat, I dont mind that at all.

Ride comfort is excellent. No complaints there whatsoever. As good as any car I've had to be honest

Met my yellow Sandyford buddy this morning coming the opposite direction this time. A friendly flash of lights was exchanged.

I’m currently averaging 15.3 kWh per 100 km at the moment. Adaptive cruise with start/stop is great on the M50.

Whats the stereo like, is it any good? No real information on it. Tesla has in general excellent audio systems and I understand the R5 has some sort of fancy equaliser software, anyone a review or opinion?

I haven't messed around with settings nor have I found any equaliser but the sound is OK. Theres a decent bit of bass, which I like.

It's definitely better than my Cupra Born it replaced with standard VW system but not nearly as good as Tavascan but that has an upgraded sennheiser system with an equaliser, subwoofer, full immersion etc.

Interesting you say ACC is great on the M50. Is it your first car with traffic aware cruise or is the Renault system really that good?

Tesla ACC is too sharp on the stopping side, and too languid on the resuming side. Not a brilliant experience.

I find the Tesla Basic AP one brilliant on the open road but aggressive in stop start traffic too.

But I remember there’s a setting in the AP menu for calm, aggressive etc but I think that’s only for EAP.

I had to drop herself to somewhere on Saturday and collect her later on so did a bit of efficiency test v Tavascan for the craic.....70km each way consisting of about 20kms motorway and 50kms B roads at about 90/100kmph and through 2 towns, warm weather and the R5 did 14.1 kwh/100kms. Long term (600kms!) it is at 14.2

I did it later in Tavascan at same speeds, same temperatures, expecting it to be quite a bit higher and it returned 14.8kwh. Long term since February and 8000kms is 17.6, more stop start traffic and colder weather with heating on.

Not scientific or conclusive but I thought there'd be a bigger gap. Maybe in town driving the R5 would use much less than Tavascan since its 700kg lighter for stop/start stuff.

Theoretical range in that kind of easy summer driving with no traffic and aircon set to very cold is about 360kms in R5 and 500kms in Cupra. I dont think there will be much more efficient types of journeys to get more.

Those are pretty good numbers from the Tavascan. Going by the ID.4 thread I just assumed you'd literally never see below 20kWh/100km in those cars.

Someone mentioned in another thread that more powerful motors are more efficient, it's hard to compare the VW stuff as more power is usually a matter of RWD vs AWD and the APP550 in the Born VZ is more efficient but a different motor. If there was a more powerful RWD version of the Tavascan with the same motor it would be interesting to see if it was more efficient, likewise if there was a higher performance version of the R5.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 40,941 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

I can tend to agree with that. More powerful motor working more efficiently. For example, my AWD EV with 400+ bhp typically averages 14-15 kWh/100km on a Dublin to Letterkenny trip.

ID4 was similar on the one trip I done it in. More 16-17 kWh/100km but nothing to write home about in any real difference.

The newer ID.4/Enyaq/Tavascan are fitted with the APP550 like in the Born VZ. Different power but the same motor.

Test drove another 5 today. Made up my mind I'm definitely getting one but can't decide which colour...yellow or black with red decals? Help me choose!

The salesman was pushing me towards PCP…I'm not sure

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 73,769 ✭✭✭✭L1011

Interesting that the salesman is directly involved there - mine just cared that I paid for the car somehow; there was a finance guy in the dealership who definitely hinted towards PCP but had no issues organising ye-olde HP.

Dealerships make nearly as much money off the finance, as they do the car. So be wary of any advice they give you, and run the sums yourself.

Yellow, green or blue even. A pity there is no Orange option. Not black unless you want to be anomious and draw no attention to yourself or it. If that's the case you might has well just buy a Honda Civic. Great car now but very dull and expensive so maybe a Dacia Sandero.

    Live long and Prosper

    Peace and long life.

Red is my favourite colour in a car…pity it's not an option. That's why I thought black with red decals would be an acceptable compromise.

Most people here will say yellow or maybe green but you have to be comfortable living with such a standing out car, and many aren't.

I picked green myself, would have been very happy with yellow also but happy with my choice. I originally had white ordered and just thought I was missing out on the chance of having a very vibrant colour and I already have a white(ish) car so changed mid order.

When i picked up my green i saw a white there and thought it looked very classy.

Black roof and red strip a must in my view. I dont like the gold strip personally.

    In order of preference

Green (this is only available in techno BTW, not iconic5 as apparently Renault dont think the green exterior and yellow exterior match well

    Yellow

    White

Midnight blue - best seller according to salesman but for me way behind the 3 above

Black - doesn't suit it in my opinion and I am done owning black cars and trying to keep them looking clean

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Yellow with black roof and red liney thingy on the roof would be my preference - I think blue will depreciate the most - even before all black - green is marmite in my view- I’m not a fan but hey, that’s why we’re all individuals and good luck to all no matter what colour you have.

I just think the car looks superb and at its best in the yellow black combo

My Honda Civic has adaptive cruise control but only works at speeds higher than 30 km/h or something. With its lane keep assist it’s great for long distance motorway driving but can have a wobble when passing an exit.

The R5 is my first car with stop/start adaptive cruise control. I didn’t opt for the Iconic spec so I have lane departure warning and not lane following.

I’m happy with how gentle the braking is. It’s a bit slow to accelerate but that’s not a bad thing and I can easily accelerate myself.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,526 ✭✭✭DaveyDave

@Buddy Bubs how do you find the fit and finish, driving, road presence of the R5? In my experience when you go down a segment to a smaller car the quality usually isn't quite as nice and the spec is usually less.

Watching a review of this by AutoEV and it looks like a great little car, smaller than the Clio so I'd say it's a nippy car to drive around town. Looks really nice, even the interior looks really well. Boot is really practical and looks like decent rear room considering it's a tiny car by modern standards.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,017 ✭✭✭Buddy Bubs

Everything is fine it, on a par with Born really in every way apart from space in the rear and boot a bit smaller and a small bit down on power. It's about 300-400mm shorter

But driving it feels solid and not really a class down. Spec is decent, missing heated seats and wheel apart from top spec one which mine isn't.

Not missing much else id expect at the price. Physical buttons and 1 brilliant button to turn every single warning beeps and bongs off

I have that top spec with the heated gubbins, which I'm sure I'll appreciate on a long drive to Donegal in December but clearly haven't used yet!

Nothing obviously cheap with the fit and finish anywhere. I do wonder about the high recycled material content after a few years of aging; but anything can go wrong with any car over a few years.

Driving feel is basically identical to my previous petrol hot hatch, well, what I expect a modern auto version of the same would have been; but the suspension comfort is a level above. Basically it has the suspension of a normal car and not a twitchy hot hatch, and that's what I want at my age now. I did read something claiming the suspension is off a Dacia Duster…

As for the earlier question about the sound system - no issues at all. Previous car I found the fitted head unit crap and replaced with a Sony and later a Pioneer, so I have some standards. DAB+ works great, have used Android Auto with Plexamp to play from my own collection also. I'd love an actual CD player, but time has moved on.
