ah balls looks like this offer has changed a fair bit. Was going to chance bringing in a Samsung A10 to the Santry store next week but looks like it would be pointless now as its not going to hit the €47 trade in.

Hopefully other offers come along for the Pixel but its hard to see them being as good as the one that just finished.

I was in the same store yesterday and they were giving me 200 for my sons old A14 but I just wanted the phone. Son is on Gomo. He said phone would be locked to Vodafone ??
    Is this right ?
Reading here previously and people mentioned Pixels were not locked to network.

Need to have my story straight why I dont want to port current number to Pixel 9a.

It is not locked to VF, I have both a VF sim and a 3 eSIM on mine, both work just fine.

Yeah. That's not true. I got the same spiel and ended up taking a sim, which I dumped outside the shop. All pixels are unlocked

Phone is not locked, they told me the same. I told them that the phone is for my Father and he can't leave the house, that he uses wifi only

I don't think phones come locked anymore - they got rid of that years ago

@DublinBeaker I confirm the phone from the Omni was not locked. I had an old SIM that I ported to Vodafone but just use my GoMo SIM.

I went into a Vodafone shop today with a Xiaomi 13T to trade in….on the website, its telling me I would get €86 trade in, but when I went in store, they were only offering €36….WTF?!

No, it got hot the day I set it up but I was outside in a sun trap on a gloriously sunny day.

i have an 8a and that can get hot where the chip is. Hot enough that it warped an otterbox case on me.

I know it's been mentioned a few times, but what cheap phones can I buy in cex that are accepted in this deal?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭Wheety

Is it still possible to get the Pixel 9a cheaper? My wife's 6a is saying the battery may be unsafe. Google have offered €85 cash or €125 Google Store credit. The phones are mad expensive from on there now.

I can't find it on the website but was thinking she could trade in her 6a and take the €85 from Google

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,922 ✭✭✭Raoul

I got that offer and I actually ended up getting I think 185 for the Google store.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,494 ✭✭✭Wheety

The 9a is now €560 on there.

I went through the rigmarole of valuing my wife's phone on the site. They are offering €52 there. Is the €200 boost still a thing?

It asked me to log in though when going through the process.

Just seeing that PAYG needs to be in store.

just using the phone. the processor chip gets hot from use.

Does anyone know if we can trade in the faulty 6As with Google against a new phone after claiming the compensation credit?

I hope so as that's what I plan to do at some point when there is a decent offer on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,561 ✭✭✭✭TitianGerm

They'll give an extra €100 trade in bonus against a 9 for the 6A. Should work out around €425 for the phone including both trade in and credit.

    Something about sandwiches

Not too happy with the battery on my 9a.

Very slow to charge using the same chargers and wires as used on my 6a. Nightly I'm in the battery saver mode. Seems to be less than 10% all the time coz it's so slow to charge.

Overnight it also loses a chunk of battery, maybe 10%. The battery graph shows a big dip. The 6a would lose only a percent or two.

Not sure what's going on. The missus has a 9a too and hers doesn't seem as bad.

Anyone else in the same boat?

The 9a charges at 23w Vs 18w of the 6a.

Use Ampere to check the speeds you get with different cables and chargers. I get about 4500mA with the 9a.

We had a few Pixel 6a and none of them got close to that. My old Xiaomi did 33w I miss that speed. But that phone had got to old.

Ampere can't be relied on for current readings, because it doesn't recognise higher voltages. Your 9a is not drawing close to 5A, it does around 2.5A at 9V at max charging speed.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,300 ✭✭✭✭Flinty997

All I know is when I get a good reading from Ampere get a faster charging than I do when I get a low reading. So it's not that I'm saying it's accurate but it a way of testing your cables and chargers to see which ones work best with your phone.

Which cables are damaged and which chargers are incompatible. Too many weird standards on these chargers. A lot say they are a certain standard but actually aren't. All our previous pixels really only got their best charging speed with a Google charger. The 9a is the first one I've had that works well better with a third party PD charger.

To be accurate you'd need a usb tester. But who has one of those.

I note someone else noticed the 9a is less picky about chargers.

These been recalls on certain batches of previous pixels. Maybe you've got a bad one. They aren't all identical. Often batches have different batteries or different screens. One of our 6a's had a much yellower screen than the others. I used that as the trade in.

Great post - especially this comment

    1. There's a reason why cheap chargers on Amazon and AliExpress are cheap. They're designed on the cheap and manufactured on the cheap cutting corners with safety. They are more often than not totally unsafe. Buy from a reputable brand like Anker or uGreen or get the original 30W charger from Google.

    2. The faster you charge the phone, the faster you wear the battery out. If you prioritise slow charging overnight, your battery will live longer.

Amazes me that people spend a few hundred quid on a phone, yet are too cheap and want to save a tenner by purchasing a "lucky dragon" charger from Amazon & the like.

I find chargers a bit of a lottery even branded ones. I've been testing them since QC (Quick Charge) came in and had it on my Lumia's.

My Xiaomi one seemed to work with every thing except those older pixels. Now have some 33w and 65w and even a 100w charger. I've tested them on my laptops etc.

Same with cables. Over time the kids damage my good cables so I started testing them as well. A shorter thicker cable.

People don't seem to realise the charger and the phone have to be compatible with each other to handshake and get the best speeds. They think they are all the same.
